    yeah.. i would say 15…
but the more i look at this picture.. the more his tongue looks fake! like his eyes… i say it is either real and those eyes are contacts.. or this kid has had some fun on photoshop.. in which case he should of airbrushed that pimple off of his lip!

    Posted on 04-26-2006 04:39:29 by dream3r
i’ll also say 12-ish, but what’s up with the eyes?

Posted on 04-26-2006 05:04:38 by outmywindow
This sounds weird, but it’s his teeth which give him away as being young, at leats in my opinion…

And I don’t think those are contacts since the green circle one on our right isn’t perfectly circular.

Yeah his teeth and his jawline make him look young…

    I’d say 12-13 as well

He drew on his eyes. However, in hindsight I think that I got scammed by whoever sent me the picture because they claimed it was two weeks in and I can still see the mark from the ink I think!

I gotta stop working so late!

12 yrs old.. with a heinous cold sore.

Posted on 04-26-2006 11:14:03 by Sadhaka
Actually you didn’t get scammed, that’s my 15 year old, who was 14 when the picture was taken. What you see is not ink but it still sore because he paid no heed to the aftercare.

    The piercing is not fake.

And yep he drew the eyes in.

Posted on 04-26-2006 11:45:56 by MaidenDisaster
If adult consent is needed for piercing a minor, wouldn’t it at least partially be the adult’s responsibility to make sure aftercare is followed properly?

I’m not criticizing so much as trying to wrap my head around this situation.

Posted on 04-26-2006 12:18:26 by Sadhaka
Sure it is, I can chase him to make sure he is brushing his teeth and doing his rinses, but I can’t monitor 24 hours a day what he eats and what he does with the jewelery in his mouth.
Such as playing around with it and not taking it easy to let it heal, etc.

Being vigilant to make sure it’s clean and doesn’t get infected was/is my number one priority.

    Those eyes are insane.

And yeah, he looks maybe 13 or 14.

Sadhaka: Thanks for the clarification, I feel much better about this now. 🙂

I wasn’t trying to accuse you of being an unfit parent or anything, so I hope you didn’t take it as such.

Posted on 04-26-2006 13:09:26 by Sadhaka
Not at all. It was a fair enough observation.

That’s not a pimple or mouth sore.. it’s a little bump he has since birth.

A 14-year-old not taking it easy on a tongue piercing gives me all kinds of wrong thoughts.

As a parent of a 12 year old, I frequently get asked, “would you let him do THAT?” Fortunately for me, I get out of that easily because I tell them that he has ZERO interest in mods and his Mother won’t let him. (Yes, I know there is a correlation.) He does know that if he wants to, he can ask me about piercings and I would be ok (ish) with some. Like Sadhaka, I understand that I can’t make him have good habits every minute of the day. Some days I have to tell him to comb his hair so if he were to become interested in piercings today, I would start him on something easily cared for but I would not allow him the surface piercings, I love, till he showed me that he could care for something “easy” like ears.

Sadhaka, I commend you for your willingness to allow your son to do something that is; at least to me, meaningful personally. I’m also glad that you are trying to make his self exploration as safe and meaningful as you can in the hours you have him by your side and good luck on the hours away. You’re a cool parent!

14 sounds right..there are piercers around here that’ll pierce 14 yr olds without parental consent so that’s what I’m used to..middle school kids walking around with tongue piercings..I find it disgusting.

why in the hell would a 12-14 year old kid need with a tongue piercing…..and yup Sadhaka you are an unfit mother if you let your kid do this at such a young age

it looks weird to me now, although i got my own tongue pierced when i was 14 as well, and i never thought it can disgust someone…

rams, why the hell would anyone *need* a tongue piercing? i dont think its ever been used to save someones life.. i could be wrong, but im sure im not.

rams what about ears? would that make someone an unfit parent? the kid wanted it and she lets him explore his interests and watches the aftercare as much as possible, that’s not unfit that’s supportive unlike those parents who think you are troubled cause you want it

Posted on 04-30-2006 15:06:28 by MaidenDisaster
It’s the parent’s choice whether or not to allow the child the modification. You who criticize Sadhaka or Crossed have no right to do so. If you have a child, educating them on modifiation and helping encourage them to properly take care of the healing process is definitely the parent’s responsibility. Why do you think parental consent is needed? Like Sadhaka said, there’s no way you can watch your child 24 hours a day, but you can encourage them as much as possible to proper aftercare, and educate them of the risks of not following said aftercare. It’s the parent’s job to educate the child, but not to dictate every aspect of their lives. It’s the decision of the parent what is appropriate for the child, and it should be the parent’s right to do so without harrasment of others, as well as the child’s right to voice their opinion and concerns to the parent without being blown off.

From what I’ve experienced, the more my parents told me NO and gave me nothing but illogical reasons for preventing me from doing something (for example, your poor argument of “it’s disgusting”) the more I wanted to do it. Kids feed on rebellion when parents can’t be honest with themselves or patient enough to sit down and explain the logical reasons of why it’s an idea that can be acted upon, or why it may not be such a good idea.

I know people are going to have different viewpoints on a controversial subject such as this, but putting forth one-sided, illogical, unexplained arguments for why you think this is wrong promotes ignorance.

Thankfully there are people in the world like Sadhaka and Crossed who actually listen to their kids.

Taking into consideration everyone’s comments on this.. i stick by my original reaction: So wrong. You know, look at his teeth. This kid is going to need braces obviously, or if not is going to end up with not the best teeth, so I wonder if anyone considered telling him the dangers that tongue piercing jewelry hold against his teeth, taking into consideration that a tongue bar is a whole lot bigger in a CHILD’s mouth than in an adult’s mouth. I’m sure he ends up biting on that thing more often than he thought possible.
I agree that listening to your kids and taking the safe route with them is important, but there IS a limit. There IS a time when a parent needs to say NO and needs to show who’s boss. This kid is probably still in elementary school, I can’t even imagine that being appropriate and i can DEFINITLY see accusations of child neglect coming out of this. Not that it is, but you need to consider the environment and surroundings. its just the way it works.

  3. I went to a restaurant with my daughter (who was about 2) and 2 of my best friends when we all (my friends and I, not my daughter, obviously) around 20. The hostess looked at my daughter and then at one of my friends (who’s only about 5’1″) and then at me and asked “How many kids menus do you need?” Some people just look young.

I think it was a good desision to get it done at a Piercers with concent then in rebellion on his part with mager conz after.

  15. Looks really young- like, ten. I know people that are 12-15 and look a lot older than that.
Anyways, I stretched my ears when I turned 13, and got my vertical labret on my 14th birthday, so..
But I researched for hours, and knew everything about taking care of piercings, just about.
