The Heart is a Puzzle

Yeah, I suppose I can relate to that. Actually, for me, the heart’s not so much a puzzle, but can be best summed up by what I believe is a quote from one of my favorite movies, Whale Music.

Born-again Christian: “Have you invited the Lord Jesus into your heart?”

Desmond Howl: “No, the place is a mess.”

Naw, just kidding, I know what’s up with my heart. I just wanted an excuse to quote that. Anyway, this puzzle heart tattoo (missing a piece) was drawn by the wearer (so please don’t copy it) and executed by Deluxe Tattoo in San Pedro, CA.

I love it! I hope someday s/he (don’t know!) can put that final piece in place, if that’s the idea of course.

I don’t know about the tat (which is actually awesome) but that’s the best quote I’ve heard ever.

Isn’t it sad that we have reached the point where we now have to appeal to people not to copy something as personal as art? I suppose in a way it was inevitable, and essentially returning to the roots of tattooing, (don’t know a whole lot about that, but I’m guessing a lot of people ended up with similar designs due to the limitations of design and application).

I just feel sad in a way that people will have no shame in copying/ripping off something so personal…guess I’m too much of an idealist and not enough of a realist :D

i have a simliar piece on my arm, although my missing piece is resting below, to remain optimistic that it is not lost forever, just waiting to be put into place.

Then it’s not the same tattoo. What you’re describing seems to be a BFF necklace type tattoo (remember those necklaces?). It’s not a puzzle heart and we also don’t know if this person has the intention of ever filling in the missing piece. So no worries, you’re idea is different :)

  2. This is my tattoo – a friend just sent me this link. Im really glad that people like the idea – my hole thing is that you go through life trying to figure out who you are – and every person you meet – every experiance you have – its a part of what makes you, you – and yeah – im looking for my “missing piece.” but im not ever going to get it filled in – because i wont be done finding my peices until im dead.

  3. I’ve had a very similar tattoo of a heart made of puzzle pieces for a few years now on my upper left arm. Mine is missing the middle piece as well but it is a sacred heart with wings and a banner held in by push pins with latin for “empty heart”.

I like the solid black, that is nice.
