For when a photo just isn’t enough

Sirwesalot sent in a photo of his shoulder portrait.  When it comes to portrait tattoos they can be very hit or miss.  I know we’ve all seen that picture that’s been floating around the net for years of the “In Loving Memory” portrait that makes the woman look horrible.  Now this photo of Sirwesalot’s Grandad John by Edgar from London Road in London, is an example of a great portrait.  If I didn’t know it was a tattoo I would swear that it was charcoal on canvas, given how soft everything is.

The Friday Tattoo Follow-up

I don’t normally do tattoo follow-ups, but in the case of this one I’m going to make an exception.  Back in December we got a look at this freshly done portrait of Lemmy.

Unfortunately the glare and the redness detracted from the awesomeness of the portrait.  It’s been a couple months now, and it’s all healed up, so here’s how it looks today.

Now that it’s healed you can really get a look at some of the details that were obscured in the first photo.  Credit for the tattoo goes to Steven Kerr from Liquorice Tattoo in Kirriemuir, Scotland.

We can’t stop here. This is bat country.

I swear, the first person that complains that this isn’t a damn near perfect copy of Johnny Depp’s face is getting left alone in Las Vegas, completely twisted on drugs, no cash, no story for the magazine, and on top of everything else, a gigantic god damned hotel bill to deal with.

Matt Kramer from Mind’s Eye Tattoo in Emmaus, PA is responsible for this brilliant Fear and Loathing tattoo.

$h*! My Tattoo Says

He’s been a starship captain, a police officer, a lawyer and a singer.  He’s probably had his portrait tattooed many times before, he’s William Shatner.  Now this Shatner tattoo is interesting as it’s not a classic Shatner.  This is more a priceline or Denny Crane Shatner.  You can tell by the wig he’s wearing.

A Portrait and the Artist

Last weekend was the Frankfurt Tattoo Convention, and we’re already starting to get photos added to the Frankfurt Convention gallery.  This portrait was done at the convention by none other than Michael Kozlenko, one of the tattoo geniuses from Kipod Tattoo.

We’ve seen a lot of Michael’s work over the past few years, but we really haven’t gotten a good look at the man himself.  Until now.

Here he is hard at work on the portrait you see above.

There are many more photos from the convention coming in every day so stay tuned for more from Kipod Tattoo, and the other studios that attended the Frankfurt Tattoo Convention.

Bring It!

You know it was bound to happen soon enough.  In fact I’ve seen several Charlie Sheen tattoos over the past week, but when I saw this one sent in by Alie K (IAM: alouicious) I knew we had a winner. Over the weekend she’s been featured on  Fox News, Gawker, countless blogs and websites, and even had her image stolen by the Weekly World News without giving her any credit.

Alie tells me there’s still a little bit of work left to be done in the face, and background, but for the most part it’s finished.  The owner of this piece?  One of her co-workers at Adrenaline Tattoo in Toronto.  You can check out more of Alie’s non Charlie Sheen work in her BME Portfolio Gallery.  Keep an eye on her gallery, as she tells me she’s got some great photos of a piece of hers that recently won 1st place for most realistic at the Sydney Tattoo Convention.
