What the hell is wrong with you?

This phrase is thrown around way too much by people that see modification as self-torture. But who cares what other people say? We don't acknowledge their insults, right? We support each other, right? Right?! Apparently not. It seems a lot of modified individuals are walking around with a victim mentality. I see kids who see themselves as weird and outcasts everyday. I don't mean just the kids that are quiet, keep to themselves, and avoid encounters with ignorance. Even those that are proud of their mods often times carry the mentality that they are an outsider and that they are different.

Yes, we certainly are different from mainstream society, but we aren't weird or outcasts... unless we let ourselves be. If we truly believe that what we do is normal and sane, then we ought to live our lives as if it were. Stop the victim mentality. We aren't the ones that should be looked at funny. We're working towards something while society sits on the couch happy with its status quo. We oughta be asking them what the hell is wrong. Why don't they modify themselves?

The next time someone asks you why, ask it right back! We will not stand by and watch our brothers and sisters in body modification become victimized. We are the standards for improvement and we will not be happy with average. You are not weird or an outcast. You are the new standard for what is normal. Be happy and proud of who you are. Question those content with "average."

If you truly believe something, then why not stand up for it? Have you ever seen someone that feels strongly about a religion? You don't see them hiding their churches in dirty places and alleys. So why do we hide away our piercing and tattoo studios? Religious people believe they are right. In fact, they "know" they are right. We ought to know that what we do is right. We ought not be ashamed of the beauty that we have created. We need to show the world their inadequacies and question their mental health. We will be the victims no longer!

If the "world" cannot accept us, we cannot accept the world. And we aren't the kind of people to just leave something as it is. Look at the transformations we've done to our bodies. Let's change the world. World modification. Only this time we'll use our voices and our minds instead of needles and ink. We are the past, present, and future and anyone not understanding that will be left behind with the status quo. Unite!

Yes, the world views us as freaks often times, but does that mean we have to view ourselves in the same light? No! In order to change the world, we must first change ourselves. We have changed the outside of ourselves, but now it's time to take a look inside and change the way we view ourselves. When you wake up, look in the mirror and admire everything you've done to make yourself happier with who you are. Realize that you had the courage to be yourself while "society" has held back its desires due to fear of rejection. We do not need to fear rejection because we are a family. A uniting of people with similar goals and interests.

I've already faced rejection and that was before I began to alter my body. Rejection's only as bad as you make it. And no matter what you were rejected for, there will always be a community of people with the same interest. Release yourself from thoughts of alienation and social-suicide. We do not need the approval of anyone but ourselves to enjoy body modification. If someone is so superificial that they judge you on your looks, then why the hell would you care what they think? They obviously have no depth and are not worth your time.

Stupid people ask stupid questions and they are the ones that do not deserve an explanation. It is the intelligent and those with a thirst for understanding that must become our audience. Explain everything that has made you complete and how being true to yourself is more important than the superifical thoughts of people whose eyes are bigger than their brains. Unite!

In summary, do not allow yourself to be the victim. Do not accept the status quo. Do not fear rejection. We are all here to support each other. BME is more than a website, it's a family. Let others know that you are normal and that there is nothing wrong with you. If you want to change the world, you have to start with yourself. We are more than body modifiers; we are world modifiers.
