“Tattoos are like stories. They're symbolic of the important moments in your life. Sitting down, talking about where you got each tattoo and what it symbolizes, is really beautiful.”
- Pamela Anderson

August 6, 2004.

BME is headed off now to cover TransVision 2004 here in Toronto. If you're in the area, consider checking it out — Steve Mann and Stelarc are both giving public presentations on issues like the right to self-modify. They may seem distinct from an outsider's point of view, but transhumanism and body modification, especially extreme body modification, have faced many of the same political issues as they become more mainstream. But, before I head out, I have had time to put together this week's article summary.

SUBDERMAL IMPLANTS
  My trip to Worthing
Part 2: Subdermal implants and Mad Max bar

Andy travels to Worthing (UK) to have transdermal implants, subdermal implants, and a Mad Max style nape piercing done at Kalima. This experience tells the story of having his right arm implants put in place.

"This really was a lot more painful that it was last time. Its really quite hard to describe the feeling but there is like a burning sensation as the skin layers are separated. I leaned up slightly a few times just to have a look at what was going on and I could see the elevator making its way down my arm as Quentin made the pocket that the implants would be inserted into."

Three that became one and a blast.

Frederik (Body Adornments, Sweden), the organizer of the Swedish ModFest, has a pyramid series of sternum rings implanted at this year's ModFest by Chrstiane.

"This was when I started getting very nervous. I have a 'history' of panic attacks, asthma and coupled with a bad case of hypochondria, the thoughts of anaphylactic shock began to get an ever increasing grip of my mind. Now, I know that since Ive used anaesthetics in the past, its virtually impossible to develop allergy to anaesthetics over time. But the darker parts of my mind still played a trick on me. Since I was clearly nervous we decided to only use a drop of anaesthetic, wait a while, and see what happens. Needless to say there wasnt any problem at all, and the procedure could go on with me bathing in sweat. The rest of the anaesthetic for the lower ring was used and while waiting for it to numb me I got a really nasty panic attack. I closed my eyes and tried to relax a bit. I suddenly felt a hand on my forehead, and opening my eyes I saw Hvve's warm eyes peaking out over his breathing mask and I got completely calm. Strange how a bit of ordinary compassion can calm one down like that, with a snap of a button."

  Sternum Upgrade

Nick has a similar set of sternum implants as Frederik done at this year's Hell City tattoo convention, but with large domes rather than rings (after his request for magnetic implants fell through and his girlfriend veto'd genital beads).

"So, he is on top of me using all this force, which seemed at the time like he could punch thru a brick wall. It's amazing how resilient the body is. I was squinting when he was doing this and was curling my toes. It wasnt painful, but I could feel such an intense pressure. It was unlike anything I had experienced before. Finally he passed it, but it would be an issue with then 3rd and 4th elevator as well."

"My girlfriend, Ash and my friend Jared were watching and thought it was crazy because they could see into my body with the elevators. I wished I could of seen it from their angle. If you are reading this, want sternum implant work, and dont get queasy easy, I would recommend bringing a mirror."

  Subdermal Implants: Becoming Myself

As an early step in a proposed full transformation, Alek has "robot wrist" implants put in without anesthetic by a practitioner in Wisconsin.

"The day after the procedure, I was amazingly sore. It hurt to do just about anything! Even lifting my arms, moving my fingers, and walking hurt. I was shocked that such a small hole and beads could make it hurt to do anything. I cleaned them, and took care of them daily with antibacterial soap, saline rinses, and sea salt."

MEATOTOMIES
The Best Mod I Ever Got.

After overstretching his PA and not being happy with the aesthetic result of a large stretched hole, Jaalyn contacts a practitioner to be incised back to the stretched hole.

"The results were fantastic. I was at a party about two weeks after getting it done and I let it slip that I had one. Sure enough, everyone at the party wanted to see it, so of course I whipped it out. Everyone there thought it was quite "cool" looking. I didn't do this for anyone but myself, but it's still nice when other people like it. I absolutely love my meatomy."

  Inadvertent meatotomy

Mike, a self-described "overweight civil lawyer from NYC" tells his (hilarious) story of falling off a horse while on a riding trip with friends, breaking his ankle, and tearing out his 0ga PA... but being very happy with the resultant meatotomy.

"I was running the horse down the trail very fast when the horse freaked out and it threw me off with incredible force — I am lucky that I did not break my neck or spine. In the process though I did dislocate a shoulder, knock out a tooth, and tore out my PA — and did I mention broke my ankle? That was it... the horse chucking me was my practitioner!"

VOLUNTARY AMPUTATION
What a Cleaver Can Do For You...

In Girlnohands' first story she told us about amputating some of her fingers. She writes in again, letting us know about chopping down both her hands to something looking like "very tiny catcher's mitts". Part of me thinks this story is pure fetish (the picture is of a friend of mine, not of the author), but even if it is, it's an accurate picture of the mind of an amputee fetishist.

"I told the doctors the truth. All they could do was send me to surgery to modify the work I had begun, and close up the wounds. They contacted the psychiatrist whose number I gave them, and forty-nine hours after I had sat down at the kitchen table, I went home with a large bandage, a sling, and a bottle of antibiotics. The stitches came out ten days after the surgery, and the surgeon advised me that he thought I was an idiot to want to deliberately handicap myself — I told him that it's only a handicap if it prevents me from living a full life."

MORE STORIES
We also posted earlier this week with more stories. For German readers, Kokomi (you know him from his bonus gallery in BME/HARD) shares a number of his stories, including about his subincision, his headsplitting, as well as his nipple removal.

Also posted is "For Her", the story of a circumcision done by wife on husband using the Good Man home circumcision tool. There's also "Let me tell you about my little dolphins!" about (you guessed it) little dolphins done as a female genital tattoo by Vic from Golden Tattoo in Salem, NH.

Finally, two sounding stories have been added. A reader from Trenton, NJ tells us about his first experiences with very small sounds in "Sounding for Fun", while in "In Too Deep" another writer accidentally pushes a barbell all the way into his bladder using a hegar sound, nearly resulting in an embarassing visit to the hospital.

Enjoy, and see you in a week or two with more. I hope you'll submit your story as well.
