Inanimate Objects Need Tattoo Love Too

I don’t know if you can call a disembodied flesh truly inanimate, as it at least used to be animate… in any case, it’s what Sephanie Carr (Dragon FX, Kingsway) has been using to hone her portraiture skills before moving on to human bodies.

I’m not sure if a pomelo is inanimate either, since it’ s alive, but it’s what Katie Quinn in San Mateo is using to learn — this is her third tattoo ever. The pomelo feels very bad-ass now…

  1. Those are pretty badass…when i first looked at the first photo i thought it was someones hand..lol..then i got a good look and yeah…=p

  2. I bet you could dry it out and keep it like that for a long time. My sibs and I used to use the skins as play “hats” when we were little.

Rauka: It’s a really big citrus fruit. Bigger than a grapefruit, but sweet.

  3. I bet the pomelo’s friends all think it’s a real badass now.

That looks like really good work, both of them.

  4. Whoa Steph! Sweet ass that is rocking!

And I couldn’t figure out what she was tattooing on first. I thought it might be an amputated leg or something.

  5. Seeing as this *is* ModBlog I thought the flesh was tattooed and THEN severed. That coulda been cool, too.

  6. That’s a pretty rad looking Pomelo! Especially for a 3rd tattoo! I was happily supprised to see my kitten on here! Her name is Gojira, for any who might be interested. lol

  7. Imagine for a moment, sitting down to your sack lunch, and then whipping out THAT fruit, there in the office.

    It would be bad ass!

    Better yet, at SCHOOL… :D

  8. 13. VikingValkyrie,
Nice idea. Drop us a line when you start your own studio. My pineapple and coconut have been wanting for a tattoo for a while, but no tattoo artist have been willing to take up the challenge.
So maybe you have what it takes ;)

  9. I’d really like to see what the inside of that pomelo looks like…. Mmm, pomelo….

Is the first one a pig joint?

  10. I was trying to work out what body part the cat was done on… then I read the description!

Seriously though, amazing work for only being her third go!

  11. A coule of you have pointed out that the first tattoo resembled something that could have come from a human… doesn’t it bother you when you eat it? Oh wait, the meat industry makes it look like something else, so it’s ok?

    Awesome tattoos though!

  12. I was really sad that the first tattoo wasn’t done on a human. It’s so pretty.

  13. I’m gonna have to track down a pomelo, I tired something like that on a water melon, it just split and leaked everywhere :( The cat tatoo’s gooad as well, even if it doesn’t really look all that much like the one in the picture.

  14. I feel silly, but what exactly is the flesh in the first image taken from? Is it pig skin? I remember hearing years ago about tattoo artists learning on pig skin, but since then I have met SO many that didn’t seem to practice on anything but themselves that I began to think it was just a rumor. And a poor pomelo! :P I’m glad to see that citrus tattooing isn’t a rumor.

  16. “óhahahaha! i love my kfc original fillet burgers, they taste like cruelty and misery! mmm mmmmm”

I bet they taste real good then, bon apetite!

  17. Wow, that cat portrait is a damn sight better than a lot of portraits by “professional” tattoo artists that have been posted here.

It also just so happens to look a lot like my cat David :)
