Adam “D357R0Y” Burdine (Live Electric Tattoo, San Marcos TX) did this tattoo of J.R.R. Tolkien signature to look as much like a branding as possible.

  1. it took me ages to figure out what a “6 month old branding forever” was! (I somehow didn’t see the word tattoo in there at first.)

    VERY convincing!

  2. That looks very convincing as a brand, i thought it was a brand that had been augmented by a bit of tattooing

  3. Really nice effect, but I really don´t understand why he/she didn´t do a real branding?

  4. i’ve thought about doing something similar… because i like how red brandings and scars start out. i’m not really interested in the healed result.

  5. Isn’t that brilliant. Using that approach, the “branding” can’t heal itself into oblivion (for people who don’t mark easily, like me)!

  6. whoa, i had to look at it again and read the description before i realized it wasnt a brand…hahaha awesome work!

  7. #10, maybe they didn’t want a ‘real’ branding.
Anyway, thats pretty effective, it looks good.

  8. #10 – I thought the same thing at first, but then I realized that a brand would look different than that when totally healed, so I think he got the tattoo so that it would maintain that look.

  9. That looks great – a lot of scarification looks better to me before its healed so this is right up my alley =D

  10. It looks fantastic, what an awesome idea. I’d be interested to see it in stronger light though, you know, with reflections, I bet it’s not half as nice. Still, love it.

  11. this took way more than just a double take to figure out it was not an actual brand!
