So Long And Thanks For All The Fish

After a personally difficult legal dispute over BME, I’ve had to face the potentially insurmountable reality of being massively in debt, and I have chosen to transfer the business to Rachel (the details of this deal are sealed, so please don’t ask). Within the month my role at BME will come to an end, and new staff (made up largely of people who’ve been working on BME for some time as well) will be taking over. I will no longer be writing online about body modification, although I will be maintaining my regular blog and other projects of course, as well as working on several body modification book projects which I am eager to complete.

It’s definitely a very strange and mixed set of feelings, having run this site from the very beginning, over nearly a decade and a half. On one hand I’m very much looking forward to having the opportunity and time to paint and tackle new adventures, and on the other hand I will very much miss both the people and the subject in general that I came to know through BME. That said, when I grew up and fell in love with body modification — and later built BME — this was a very different and much more “outsider” culture, so maybe now, as not just tattooing but body modification as a whole enjoys unprecedented levels of popularity and acceptability, it is a good time to pass the torch on to a new generation. It’s my hope that they maintain the site in the spirit that it was begun, while taking on the challenges of a new environment.

I have very much enjoyed being a part of BME and I leave it with good memories. Thank you to everyone who’s been a friend of the site, and everyone who’s helped bring it to this point. I hope you’ve enjoyed my contributions — I know I’ve enjoyed yours — and I hope that you continue to enjoy what BME brings in the future.

See you in hell! :P

  1. Holy Crap. I hope the site doesn’t look like it looked for the short time you weren’t administrating.
Godspeed to you Shannon. Your talents will carry you onto bigger and better things.

  2. The site will be updated as usual and I’m sure you’ll see new features and so on as well. It was in stasis during that period because of legal issues, not technical/creative issues.

  3. wow. that’s a stunning announcement, and it must have been a difficult decision to come to. not that we had much one-on one contact in the first place, but i hope you and i can stay in touch. hat off to you, as always.

  4. I, for one, raise my glass in the air to Shannon’s hard work and dedication, and also wish the entity that is BME good luck many more years of being hotlinked to by people who don’t understand us.

Thanks for your time Shannon, stay well.

  5. noooooooooooooooooooooooo

    shannon dont leave us!

we will miss the “guess which body part” games you play with us :(

  6. I agree with 11, this place wont be the same without close ups of horribly disturbing images! Well, good luck man.

  7. really sad to see you go man. But if its best for you than I wish you the best and only hope the new owners can keep the spirit of BME the same

  8. I hope we’ll see a new direction and look forward to a new era.

Shannon has mighty big boots to fill but I look forward to a different perspective here.

  9. Shannon, buddy. We are gonna miss you in BME land.

    *joins TrickyDick and raises glass*.

Its just not gonna be the same without you and your witty humor.

  10. He said that he wouldn’t be writing about body modification online anymore.. Which means no more modblog right?

    This sucks.
I’m not renewing my membership for iam, no point if the person I respect isn’t running it anymore.

  11. I’ve never commented anything here before, but I just want to wish you the best of luck with everything Shannon! It’s been really great reading and seeing everything you’ve put on here, it really opened my mind to some stuff I never thought was possible! So thanks and all the best with your next projects :)

  12. Having been a faithful, albeit mostly lurking, reader of Modblog and BME for many years, I am very sad to see it has come to this. BME changed my life in a very profound way, as it has for many others, and although I am no longer an “active” member of the community, simply because I choose not to display myself for the masses, I feel that Shannon is in a way a part of my life. We both had beautiful little blond haired daughters within six months of each other, both were divorced within 3 months of each other, and while I’ve never taken the initiative to contact you personally Shannon – I feel an absurd sense of kinship with you because of these parallels and because you have allowed me to peek into your life and have opened my eyes and mind to to myriad of human experiences to be had in the realm of body modification. I wish you nothing but the best in whatever endeavors you throw yourself into, because although we’ve never met or spoken, I feel I know enough about you thanks to years of reading your blogs to know that you will continue to create and drive yourself to new heights. Thank you for your years of dedication and hard work, I for one will never be the same.

  13. That’s so sad! After seeing what the site was like when you didn’t have access before, I’m afraid of what might happen to BME. Good luck with the future, you will be missed.

  14. Shannon, I’m so sorry to hear you’ll be leaving us… But I hope you have a great future in whatever you do! Best of luck buddy!

  15. oh well… bme is dead. Fair enough. It was good while it lasted, sorry to see you go shannon.

  16. you shall be missed shanon standing by your side in the good and the worst
may your life be full of happyness

  17. Thank you Shannon for all the time an effort you have put in to this community you will be missed.

  18. Too bad to hear that you are leaving BME and ModBlog, Shannon! However, it sounds like you leave with high spirits and that is always a good thing (especially after such a long commitment). Thank you for all your work and the interesting articles through the years!

  19. I don’t think mere words can adequately express how profound an impact BME and you, Shannon, have had on me. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us. You will be missed – in many ways, every single day. Good luck and godspeed to you.

  20. I found out this blog only few weeks ago, but I fell in love with it at first sight. I learned to appreciate your wit and your personality and, even if I don’t know you personally and probably won’t ever meet you, Shannon, I want to say “thank you” and blessed be.

  21. This is inordinately disappointing. The grace of your “resignation” is to your absolute credit, and I can’t say I’d be reacting in the same way were I in your position.

Was “ceasing to write about body modification” part of the settlement? I find it pretty shocking that you couldn’t move your interests, writing style and eye for the interesting to a new blog, and think it’s a shame (and something of an indictment) if you’ve been prevented from doing so.

Thanks for more than a decade of hard work and revolution. And keep in touch.

  22. THANKS SHANNON! u do alot for alot people <3
..i cant belive u dont gonna be here anymore..cri cri

  23. Sorry to hear it.
Thanks for all the work you’ve done.
    All the best. =]

  24. *sigh*
This is really sad. I’m actually tearing up.
Shannon, thanks for everything you’ve done. You will be missed. I can’t say that I’ll frequent the site as much now, as it was you that really made it what it is. I wish you the best in whatever you do later in life…also, I hope that any legal troubles that are left get resolved very soon.
I’m sure we’ll all miss you. Even though we’ve never met, you’ve influenced my life in a big way, and probabaly many others as well. I enjoy reading your writing, and am glad you’ll continue your personal blog.
    Best wishes,

  25. I think it’s quite obvious that the only reason Shannon came back, was because we all lost are trust in bmezine when he was gone. Now we trust bme again, so Rachel can actually have a site with people on it. I feel f*cked.

  26. WHAT!?!?!?!??!
just when i came back on iam…
That means ill be leaving iam again…IAM WITHOUT SHANNON IS NOT IAM. ITS NOTHING.

  27. This blog truly changed my life like many others on here. I wouldn’t be so confident in myself if it weren’t for this place. It gave a lot of us an escape from the harsh judgements of the “real world” and brought us altogether and made us feel united and proud of being modified. I will truly miss your writings Shannon, I’ve never spoke to you personally, but I feel as if your a good friend. I am truly sadden by this news and alittle piece of me is crushed. I will continue to support modifications of all kinda, but I can’t truly say if I will continue to support BME or not.

  28. Thanks for the articles, encouragement, and getting this community growing and going.

  29. Thank you so múch Shannon for all that you have done for the bodymod community and those interested in it.

I drink to your unfortunate departure from this site and wish you the best of luck with your continuing work. And I also drink to the people taking over. Welcome!

Since I first discovered BMEzine (back in the days) it has been a sanctuary away from my everyday life as a school teacher. When the dullness of normality became to strong there was always BME Hard, Extreme etc. to provide me with a much needed dose of blood and art. And an at least weekly visit to Modblog has helped restore my whatever little faith I’ve had in humanity.

I’m looking forward to see what the future brings.

Once again, the best of luck and thanks for the FLESH.

  30. Shannon,

This world will not be the same without you. You will always be my mentor =)

Thank you for all of your help and support. We will miss you! Keep in touch!

    .: Adam

  31. my eyes watered when I read this. BME has definitely changed my life more than any other website ever. It has shown what is possible and inspired me to reach greater mods since I was 16. It also was the mecca of the body mod world. If it wasnt for the artist I met through BME I might have never got to hang or get implants, and I definitely wouldnt have got my eyeball tattooed. I owe so much to Shannan and BME. So this is my thanks to you Shannon. For all you’ve done and also for posting me on modblog 4 times this month. Mostly for all you’ve done…

  32. Thank you for starting BME. Without you I would never have got pierced, tattooed or suspended. Very sorry to see you go.

I am glad I didn’t get my BME4Life tat – I don’t think BME will ever be the same.

    Cheers Shannon

  33. Haha I don’t feel so retarded now for getting teary eyed.

Shannon we don’t even need to tell you how much you’ll be missed, I’m sure you know well. You know the difference you make in so many lives. It’s amazing. A part of my everyday isn’t going to be here anymore. It really saddens me. I wish you nothing but the best in whatever you continue to pursue.

    We’ll all miss you.

  34. I’d hoped (probably a bit naively) that things were okay now and you’d be able to stay forever. I guess not. Your presence on BME will definitely be missed. Love you.

  35. awww shit!! im really trying to stay positive and give the impending take-over people the benefit of the doubt but man last time everything went into other peoples hands everything went to hell. Lets hope things wont go that way this time. Christ Shannon, its been good man.

  36. Farewell dear sweet Shannon, may your work as an artist soar and grow.
    You rule

  37. Shannon you have changed my entire outlook on what I can do with my body and thanks to you and BME I have the confidence to do what I feel I have to do without the fear of being looked down on. You have done the body modification society such a service. I will miss knowing you are there :(

  38. I am truly sad to hear this news. I hope nothing changes like it did before (i stopped reading for a while because of it). I wish you the best in all your endeavors, Shannon. here’s to hoping modblog doesn’t blow like last time.

  39. I’ve been with the BME community virtually since it’s inception and certainly Shannon will be sorely missed. But BME is more than one man, it’s a community which certainly has been steered by Shannon and his desire to get the ‘unusual’ into the more public view. Shannon, you will be sorely missed, but to the new steerage committee, remember, you have a large community who all love and respect Shannon for all of the very hard work he has put into BME over the past 15 or so years.

I was as surprised, shocked and saddened as any of the other contributors, to learn of Shannon’s departure from our lives. But remember, we are all adults with a sense of the inane, and a need for the body different, and I hope with the ability to carry on.

The King may no longer be in residence, but Long Live BME.
    We owe it to Shannon.

  40. Good luck with whatever life brings you Shannon. It’s a shame you’re leaving. Your work has inspired me. :(

    thanks for everything.

  41. Best of luck in the future Shannon, and thank you for the site and the education it has provided me

  42. Thanks for the difference your site made for so many of us. I wish you the best.

  43. thank you so much for all the amazing posts

i wish you the best of luck for the future

  44. Shannon, I don’t know what to say. I’m shocked, dismayed, distraught, etc. I too have to chime in with the “this site changed my life” sentiment. ModBlog, more than IAM or BME has made me feel like part of a community more than any other site ever has. Without you it just won’t be the same. Thank you for all your years invested. You’ve created something truly beautiful and it would be a shame and a heartbreak to see it sullied. I hope that the new blood keeps the spirit of the site alive. I wish you all the best in whatever you do. <3 u *hug*

  45. As (im guessing) one of the youngest people to be involved in/a total lurker (admittedly) of BME, this is terrible news for me to read.

i found the site not very long ago and the fact that this great entity which is become so enamored with is going to CHANGE is distressing to say the least. im sure many of you remember when you first found BME and saw that there were other people with the same goals and interests as you, and as of now im panicking that it wont be the same =[

shannon please dont disappear off the face of the earth please! and someone better keep modblog alive or i might have a tantrum.

  46. fucks sake, what the fuck….our loss, peace to you man, i hope the people can keep this joint alive.
but definately, cheers shannon, best to you and yours.

  47. You know, I always thought that you’d be in charge of BME forever. No matter how many years passed or the troubles that could come up, you’d always be here like a pillar, taking care of the website and making it slide through the years. Not once did it cross my mind that you’d leave.
And my nerdy side wont leave me alone until I say this – it’s like Hogwarts without Dumbledore!

  48. dude, bummer. i will miss looking forward to your modblog posts on a daily basis.

fiduciary issues are no joke, i can understand why you must relinquish power.

i’m sorry to see you go. maybe we will meet again someday. (on BME that is)

  49. Shannon,

As much as I hate to see you leaving BME, I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. I for one would not be who I am today if it wasn’t for you and BME and the insight that you provided to someone like me interested in body mods but no idea what she was doing. You’ll be greatly missed.

  50. Have fun and you’ll be missed. For me it’s not the images that made this blog it was your writing so I hope it doesn’t go downhill upon your leaving.

  51. It won’t be the same. But I hope it won’t be for the worse. Good luck and good wishes, Shannon.

  52. A big part of BME dies with this news.
You were missed before and we followed you to body2, I just home this doesn´t turn into the BME it became when you were blocked.
We well come check you out on zentastic not to feel so home sick.

    This is sad, sad news.

  53. i dont understand what actually happened and why you have to give it to rachel what actually happenedd from the start to make you get locked out of bme and stuff????
    some111 explainnn?

  54. Well Shannon, for the short time I’ve been on BME, I’ve seen it’s fluctuations, and I wish you the best! Thank you for all of your hardwork and dedication.

  55. BME, IAM and ModBlog have made a massive impact on my life over the past year. It sucks to see you leave. Good luck with everything, and I hope the new admins do just as good a job as you have!

  56. I hope your life has many more good fortunes in store for you. I don’t think anyone needs to say you will be missed.

  57. I really got used to check modblog on daily basis, it was a great way to start the day… now… we’ll miss you Shannon, I’ll sure follow up your other projects

the best of lucks with everything!!!

  58. Fuckkkkkkkk.
Shannon, BME will suck without you; you’ll be hella missed man

  59. All the best, Shannon, for your future endeavours. You have made a tremendous contribution to the way the world views mod & the modded. Please don’t ever underestimate the extent to which you have changed our lives through providing us with information, resources, and a sense of community/belonging.

    Thank you.

  60. Aww, man. I feel defeated. The first thing I thought was “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” then i regained my composure and what I meant was: Thanks for everything, Shannon. You’ve probably given more to this than most of us know for sure and please know that we appreciate it. I think you’ve helped shape more people’s lives than you know and, eventhough I’ve never spoken to you, I look up to you as proof of what heights can be acheived when we embrace differences not only in others but also from within ourselves. Your passion and conviction have truly been a gift to us all. We’ll miss you; I’ll miss you and we’ll do our best to keep this going right. I wish you and yours the best of luck, always :)

  61. i really hope this site stays alive, its an amazing resource for the modified community. good luck in your future endeavors, i hope you stay in contact with the bme community!

  62. Thanks for the time you have spent on creating and evolving BME, Shannon. It has been everything to a lot of people. From satisfying ones curiosity to finding inspiration, friends, acceptance, courage, and a deeper sense of knowledge of the human mind as well as body.

  63. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Atleast stay on as a guest writer for modblog! What will i get online for when i cant look at porn. You will be greatly missed on bme!

  64. @Shannon: without you starting BME & would neither be the one i am today (aaand i indeed am pretty happy with the road i’ve chosen to travel), nor would i have met quite i few people i am very glad to be able to call ‘friends’.

So: thank you very much for all the blood, sweat & tears you’ve shed over the years maintaining all of this!

    All the best, take care!

    Marco aka IAM Herger

  65. wow. i have never posted here but have been an avid reader of bme/mod blog for years. hopefully this new transition sorts out the little problems there are…and shannon thanks for everything i’ve always admired your work and look forward to seeing more paintings ;)… for some reason everyday i check zentastic or your iam..quite possibly one of the most interesting people i have had the opportunity to read about.

  66. That’s very bad….This blogs kicks so much assssssssss

You’ll meet me in hell and sit to me left .F

  67. i’m sad to see shannon go but i have faith that all will be left in good hands. my life wouldn’t be the same without bme and i really don’t know what to say so i’ll just say “i’ll miss you shannon and i hope you keep in touch.”

ps: maybe now it won’t ALWAYS be a penis.

  68. I am so sad to see you go. :(
You nearly brought me to tears.
Thank you for all you’ve done.

  69. you’ve changed my life with your work here, and it’s been for the better. for that, i thank you more than words could express. =] i’m sad to see you go, glad to see your positive take on it.

    thanks, again.

  70. Shit happens!
Best of luck. You really made an impact on my life. A small impact, but still… Thanks.

Rachel will do an awesome job, I’m sure.

  71. Wow…well, thanks for all the efforts over the years! I’m glad to see that you’re moving on to new and exciting things. We’ll miss you!

  72. I found my home in 2002 on BME & IAM. Shannon, I will miss your humor and insight, and most of all I will miss the huge impact you have had on body modification. This community means so much to me, and I thank you for creating it. BME4LIFE

  73. wow. what news. I thank you for opening so many new ideas and concepts to me that I honestly probably wouldn’t have learned of for another few years. Granted I didn’t agree with everything you said since I’ve been lurking on here, I have mad respect for you and the knowledge you hold on something you genuinely love.
Thanks for creating such a wonderful place for not only those who subscribe to the service, but for anyone and everyone.

    best wishes :)

  74. Oh. Snap!
Not what i was expecting to load up to this evening, i tells you.

  75. i can only echo the sentiments of everyone else on here. thank you Shannon for all the blood, sweat and tears (figuratively and literally). I wish you all the best for future endeavors, may you have a happy life.

  76. Thanks for all the fun and those “Dammit!…Can’t be…it’s really…F*ck!”-Moments I went Through on ModBlog.
Your Work here really did open my mind for a number of enigmatic (and suddenly not-so-alien) views and lifestyles.

Best wishes and “halte die Ohren steif”!

  77. All the best Shannon. This is one of the best sites out there, thanks for everything!

  78. correct me if I’m wrong…but to me this seems like the person who was the reason for all the legal issue trouble within the last months finally got what she wanted, the official takeover of modblog.
but apart from that I want to thank you for all the crazy, sometimes disgusting, but always inspiring stuff you brought to me.

  79. Along with the hundred of other comments, I wish you luck Shannon. Your insight into life will protect you from the dark.

  80. I think I’m very far from a typical Modblog reader. I study science, I like mathematics and linguistics, I dress in neutral clothes, and I don’t have one single body modification and I certainly do not plan on getting any. Still I check Modblog several times a day, because I just happen to be very fascinated by others modifications. I used to disdain body modification and those who practise it, but through reading Modblog I have rather developed some kind respect for it.

So, Shannon, I find it a bit sad that you leave the blog. Thanks for all interesting material that you have produced as long as I’ve been reading!

  81. I can’t believe this. I’m speechless. I genuinely did not think for a moment that things would turn out this way.

Best of luck with everything else.

  82. I have to agree with this one “it’s like Hogwarts without Dumbledore!”

  83. Every comment you make you prove to me what an inspiring person you are. What a great guidance and source of acceptance you have been.
Especially your last heading being a Hitchhikers quote.

  84. Well damn. I’ve been lurking about BME and this blog for a decade now, I never thought I’d see the day. Good luck Shannon. I sincerely hope your vision won’t be fucked over like it was the last time you left. Have fun with the homesteading!

  85. this just ruined my day :(
thanks for all your work shannon and all the best to you.
    good luck to rachel, too

  86. Good luck Shannon! You’ll be missed … Thank you.

And it’s certainly like a Hogwarts without Dumbledore … Itäs unbelieveable.

  87. that tattoo is awesome, I’ll be sad to see you leave.. probably wont check modblog as often now..
it’s just not the same without you posting.

  88. i’m officially leaving BME before it gets really bad now. i can just see the extreme section being filtered…

  89. when i got my first tattoo, i was a total bodmod scrub – i knew nothing. i was so uneducated it was almost embarrassing. then a friend at college pointed me toward BMEzine and my life changed. i soaked up every bit of information i could find. i submitted pictures and my stories, i got an IAM account (my good ol’ iam:osiri, how i miss it so), i read and reviewed experiences. i learned about all sorts of things that both shocked and amazed me, the limits to which some people have pushed their bodies, and i gained an all new respect for those who have kept the mod community alive and flourishing all these years.

since learning about BMEzine i have gained an all-new respect for both modified people and my own body. i have become confident in my own skin, something i never thought possible. through the IAM community i met people who made me realize that even my scars are beautiful, that in this all i am unique, that i can be my own work of art, and in the time since i came here i have gone from loathing to loving myself.

Shannon, it was you who created and maintained this forum that not only gave me confidence in myself but educated me on the mod world, something that has since changed my life in more ways than i could ever describe in a comment. to see you leave brings tears to my eyes not just because i may not see the “guess what” pictures on ModBlog anymore but because i feel i am losing both a mentor and a role model, someone i have admired and respected for so long (and will continue to admire and respect until the day you vanish off the internet entirely).

people can say all they want about BME not being about one person, but to many of us it WAS about one person, because Shannon was the one who shared so much with us, and gave so much of himself.

*raises her glass* it’ll never be the same without you, Shannon, but i like others respect the choice you’ve made and hope that in the end it will be of more benefit than sorrow to you. may the roads rise up to meet you, and the winds always be at your back.

  90. It was such a pleasure to read YOUR modblog everyday. Although I don’t know you personally, and you certainly have no idea about me as I hardly wrote any comments, I feel like loosing a good friend. You are an extremely interesting person, a talented writer and a creative painter and I am looking forward to buy your books, visit your exhibition and whatever you create in your future. Thank you so much for the inspiration and joy you gave me!

  91. I don’t even know what to say to this. I’m glad this is in the best interest of both you and Rachel, but at the same time.. no matter what stays the same, and what becomes “better”, you, Shannon, ARE BME. Without you, it’s never going to be quite the same. Regardless, thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done for us as a community and for personally being such an inspiration and role model for me.

  92. After checking this site multiple times every day from the day i discovered it some five or so years back, i feel like i’ve formed some type of personal relationship with you shannon. Looking forward to new updates, each one containing a bit of your character in it. Though we’ve never met, i feel like i’ve learned and know much about you.

It’s much like when the original lead singer of a band leaves. Yes, the band may still be good, but it will not be the legacy it was with all the original members.

Good luck with all you do, and thank you.

  93. I hate this! I’ve been on BME for close to 10 years myself. I can’t see how it will ever be the same (or, I’m sorry to say, as good). I certainly know nothing about the circumstances. However, I hope to gosh this change is not tied up in some darn divorce settlement. The only individuals who profit are the damn attorneys. It’s no wonder no one wants to get married anymore. Sorry, if I’ve offended, but I just had to vent!

  94. the only way I can describe how I feel about the whole thing is when someone your close to and look upto dies, you have that emptyness remaining, and though the fond memories of them remain its just not the same going to places you once frequented with them.

you’re going to be missed ALOT . things WON’T be the same without you… You’re pretty much the enbodyment of bme…

call me lame for that, but its how I feel…

  95. I forgot to say to you Shannon, best of luck always, and thanks for a hell of a ride!

  96. Having read a little about the disputes weathered and what it has taken for this site to be, I’m very very grateful for what you have done. BME, or something very much like it, needs to exist. I doubt that the minds of all people will ever be free, but hopefully strength in a community like this will help more people. Thanks for your bravery and defiance. And good luck with everything you do.

  97. I always wanted to meet you at a BME bbq someday. It’s a real shame to see you go.

I wish you all the best with Nefarious and the rest of your life and endeavours. I’ll be watching I Need More Life.

Thank you so much for everything.

  98. “There was no force, no coercion — nothing of the sort”

“I’ve had to face the potentially insurmountable reality of being massively in debt”

oh yes. no coercion. I understand.
    Ma va là

  99. :/ Well, Shannon, if you could start an empire as successful as bme, there is no doubt in my mind that you can’t do something else equally as successful for yourself. That being said, I wish you the best of luck, and I’ll keep my eye out for you!

  100. Wow, I haven’t posted regularly in quite some time, but I have been around for a while (at least since when it was at the old address) and I must say I am floored. I hate that it has to be this way and I’m sorry for all you are going through. Not to belittle all the hard work everyone has contributed, but it really won’t be the same and I don’t think I want to be a part of a Shannon-free BME. It isn’t fair that the cost of this drama pushes you out of something you created. Can you post links to all the sites of yours that will remain in your control so we can all bookmark them?

  101. I for one, was here for Shannon’s writing, and personal viewpoint. You really took blogging to a level of art. And that can’t be done by a commitie.

  102. hey, shannon, are you planning to continue in bodytwo?
cause the last time you were away from the editorial front of modblog the posting quality went down, and it was a sad thing to witness.
Not that the other editors were that bad, its just that you are good in this subject, and, as you pointed, in a topic that is more mainstream with each passing day, its not a matter of finding good pictures and histories, but to apply an human filter to the landslide of information, and you are a great human filter ;)

  103. You will be dearly missed as BME won’t ever be the same without you. Thank you for educating and entertaining us for as long as you did, and best of luck to you in whatever you do!

  104. I wish you all the best, Shannon,
it wont be the same without you!

And I really hope modblog wont go all downhill like last time.

  105. As Shannon has always said, although he created it, BME was a community, and a community first. I hope that this community (one which I’ve watched, lurked and occasionally commented on) continues to support itself and each other. The bitterness of the past legal issues was divisive, and lead to nothing but bad things. The issue for me isn’t about who controls what, or who’s allowed where… I will read BME for BME and I will read ineedmorelife and zentastic to hear about Shannon and check out his art.

There is a vast difference between an individual no longer being employed by the largest body-mod website in the world, and that individual no longer being part of the body-mod community.

Best of luck BME, Best of luck Shannon.
I know we will see you both around.

  106. It wont be the same without you Shannon, hope you all the best. Without you I wouldnt be where I am today.

  107. Wow. I did not expect to come home and read that….
I haven’t ever posted on modblog before (although I have been tempted on numerous occasions but decided to stay out of the many dramas I have seen here!) and it is sad that my first (and most likely last) post is under these circumstances….

I have had my iam page for almost 8 years now and I never thought I would be so sad to hear that. Despite never talking to you personally you have done a lot for me throughout the years and I have met a lot of wonderful people because of it. But anyway I guess I just wanted to say thank you, and good luck.

  108. It’s not going to be Modblog without you at all.:[

I enjoyed your takes and your taste, and I'm sad to see you go. I hope that maybe you can come back sometime, although by the severity of the post, I doubt it.

    It's been a good haul.:]

  109. Shannon,
I have hated seeing what I interpreted as a stranglehold on your personality over the past 6-9 months. I’m glad you are going to be able to enjoy even fuller the life that you love without any negatives bringing you down. Good luck, you will be missed.

  110. Agreed with #154, but if it’s what you’ve got to do, then I say do it. :)
I’m really saddened, however, I just know you’ll go on to bigger and better things, Shannon. Here’s to the past, present and future, mate!

  111. byebye shannon!
thanks for everything you’ve put into the site and the community,
Without all the work you put in im sure a lot fewer people would be well informed enough to make good desicisions with regards to mods,
    You will be sorely missed,
    Thanks, Dan

  112. Well. the life goes on.
Shannon i want to thank you for your hard work. And BME realy changed my life. About 4 years ago i disscovered it . And every time i checked it i somehow thought about how to maintain this whole portal. So i bet it’s hard to do .)
So thanks again Shannon i will raise a glass in your name .)

Sorry for broken english :) .
    - Dmitry

  113. awwww, Gonna miss your modblog entries!! =( Good luck with your new adventures though!! =)

  114. i know there’s so many comments that you may never see them all but thanks for everything shannon. you’ve played one of the most important rolls in modern body modification and given access to an education that hundreds of thousands, if not millions of us would have never found otherwise.

i’ve been reading and researching and educating myself through bme for the last 6 or 7 years and the journey has been amazing. my friends and i wouldnt be the people we are if we didnt have this space to learn and grow in, and the quality of all the work we have done would be subpar.

im sad to see you go but nothing is forever and i am very accepting of that fact. i truly wish you the best in whatever you do from here on out and i hope the next phase of bme can continue to triumph, however if it doesnt, that is life.

moving forward is a part of life.

    thank you so much shannon.

  115. :(

Shannon, I just want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart; you’ve changed my life and I know the lives of many others. I’ve been visiting BME for the past six years and it’s opened my eyes and my mind and I’ve grown so much because of this community. Coming where I come from (probably where most people come from) with such closed minded people, modblog and BME were places I could go to be with other open-minded, loving, amazing people who didn’t look down on others because they were different and had different images about themselves and their bodies; instead you showed them in all their diversified beauty.

    Thank you.
BME and Modblog won’t be the same without you :(

  116. Am really quite upset about this, I teared up!! I’ve been lurking for over a year but never posted before. I really hope that your articles in Bizarre will be continuing. Wishing you all the best for your futute and thanks for all your hardwork.

  117. I just wanna say thanks for everything, Shannon. Over the years BME has been an important part of peoples lives for reasons too numerous to mention. Here’s hoping the new crew will keep the high standards and challenging content that were abundant during your reign.

As someone else said earlier -
The King Is Dead… Long Live The King!

  118. sooo tragic!!! going to miss my daily glimpse of BME. This site has showed me i shouldnt be ashamed of being who i want to be. an end of an era indeed….Good luck shannon xx

  119. wow, I’m really taken back right now. I can’t believe you’re really leaving… :(

Thank you for everything, Shannon. You and BME have really helped and changed my life over the past 6 years, and I am forever greatful for your efforts in this community. Along with the rest of BME, I really feel like I am losing someone important.

Good luck with everything, and we’ll definitely miss you!

  120. Pretty glad you are leaving actually, you have always seemed like a huge jackass who always wasted time defending ‘bodymods’ that were in actuality severe mutilation.

  121. Wow…I’ve been a BME addict (and lurker, mostly) since I was 13. That was six years ago. I came across it while I was doing research when I wanted a navel piercing. I never would have guessed that I would be as modified as I am now! I know I wouldn’t be the same person had I never come across BME and ModBlog, and I can’t imagine where I would have gotten all of the knowledge I now have about mods if it weren’t for BME. I feel like there’s so much more to say, but I’m all choked up (although #23 made me giggle). Thanks Shannon, for everything.

  122. hey shannon. thanks for everything, and pretty much unbeknown to you, shaping the person i have become today. it been a great 10+ years. good luck, take care.

  123. Bigbear, read the bit above the comment box, will you? If you’re intolerant of body mods, don’t visit a body mod site. Idiot.

  124. Thanks, shannon, for everything that made me smile, *awe*, cringe & gag :)
You are an inspiration & will be sorely missed.

  125. FUCK. Booooooooooo…..

Well, Goodbye Shannon, Thank you for everything, Sorry to see you removed from you’re child, I will suppress my outrage in this post.

What you began…. Changed my life. And to see the founder REMOVED saddens me more deeply than i had thought it could.

Best of luck. Fuck dude! Goodbye.

  126. Sad to see you go, it’s not gonna be the same!

Good luck with everything, if anything you do’s even half as good as BME then the world really better watch out ;)

  127. Gutted to hear you’re leaving Shannon!
Just want to say thank you for all the years of hard work n dedication you’ve put into BME, I appreciate it so much. Anything i can say wouldn’t sum up your achievements anyway, so I’ll just say ‘You’re fucking class’

Thanks n all the best for the future, whatever you do!

  128. Rachel has some serious shoes to fill, and honestly I’d hate to be in her position right now. Because with all the vulture’s nit picking over everything she’ll be doing. Fair well Shannon, we must always respect that which has past. As well that which came before us. Here’s looking forward to the future.. Here’s to hoping it stays the same, or gets better..

  129. Aw =(. I’ve been a lurker on BMEzine for a loooonngggg time and I really will miss you. I hope modblog and BMEzine do not go down hill now T-T

Good luck with whatever life brings you now!

  130. i’m so sad to see you go, simply because a lot of the editorials and such you featured helped me and some of my family come to terms with the fact i wanted to modify myself both in positive and negative ways. you’ve helped a lot of people learn about body mods and also created an amazing resource about all kinds of modifications and rituals, a resource which me and seemingly most of the bme community are very very thankful for.

bme and, (perhaps even more so,) modblog just won’t be the same without you; take care and good luck.

  131. Dear shannon,
thank you so much for creating BME. Through BME and IAM I have made so many friends and if it wasn’t for your sites I wouldn’t be half the modded person that I am today. I wish you the best with your life and hope you have fun

  132. No no no no no… this is not happening!
I can’t believe this. I’m mainly a lurker, but I’ve been here 5 years and I love this place. Shannon, you are such a unique individual and I will miss your involvement here SO MUCH. What a way to top off a craptastic day.

Shannon, I’m sure you are well aware, but you will be missed!! *hugs*

  133. I still can’t believe it.
I feel ridiculous sitting here reading these comments crying so much. But I can’t even help it.

This place made me who I am, no one can tell me this community is going to remain the same without Shannon. Without this place I would have ended up a lost teenager not knowing who I was, or what I wanted.. hating myself.

This community is the only thing that showed me how to be ME, how to be who I truely feel I am. This place is like home, iam is full of friends I couldn’t be without. People I’ve known 5 years plus.

    Thanks Shannon, for everything.

  134. Thanks for everything, Shannon, and best of luck in your future challenges. I look forward to seeing the site move foward!

  135. Well… a citizen of the U.S. I have a right to express what I feel so here goes….

To the people begging Shannon to stay: Knock it off, he gave up on his dream, he dosn’t want to do it anymore, stop whining.

To Shannon: Thanks for giving up on all of us, and most importantly, your dream….you started BME YEARS ago….you said numerous times it was like your “baby”….hmm….well….at least it’s not COMPLETLY orphaned, Thanks again

  136. thanks for everything. i started reading bme what seems like a millions years ago (i think 96?) and was originally the 205th person to join iam. thanks for creating such a beautiful site. best of luck!

  137. I will miss Shannon here but this is his decision and I hope it will be good for him :)
    Good luck!

I’ve just started my journey with bme (sending photos and so one) but I was a fan of this site from long time, Shanonn was an integral part of that. I think it will be hard for everyone to change, to think that he is not on bme.

    So one more time
Good luck and thanks for everything :)

  138. shannon i will miss you more than i know right now. but i wish you the best of luck with future projects and in life. you have changed the world with bme and i thank you.

  139. “A big part of BME dies with this news.”

    AGREED! BME needs you, Shannon..

  140. This place has shaped me into a person that I never thought I would become. I first came to this site in search of information about getting my ear cartilage punched with a gun. 7 years, 18 piercings, and 1 unfinished tattoo project later, I have more understanding and love for body modification. I am able to see beauty in people that I once saw as “weird” or “freaky”; and I am proud to say that I am just as “weird” too. I met the man that I would someday like to marry on here.
    Thank you, Shannon.

  141. Pingback:

  142. Good luck with everything beyond BME Shannon, you have been a wonderful contribution to a lot of people’s lives.
Thank you for everything you’ve done.

  143. Well, that’s fucking sad. I understand the terms of everything, yadda yadda yadda, and that’s cool and all, but that seems weak. You’re an odd fellow, but that’s why I like you, and I like reading your blog posts and stuff on ModBlog. I mean, couldn’t it have gone a different way and you still at least stay part of this? I know there’s 229 at this point posts before mine, and you probably answered these, but still, I want to vent my frustration, and well, at the same time I understand that sometimes you just gotta move on and not everything can always stay the same, still, I hope to find a place to read about the shit you do, and the things you see. And maybe sometime in the next few years when I’m visiting Toronto (and I frequently do!), I’ll get a chance to run into you and shake your hand and maybe have a coffee or a beer. So, good luck, and may our paths cross again.

  144. Well, thats somehow odd. Some month before this was stated, that BME had an hostile takeover, which was reversed by a couple of court trials. One of the main persons in that fact was “rachel”, who was known as an (ex-)girlfriend of shannon. After the case was settled, everything went back to normal.

Now this “goodbye”. It is somehow odd. If this happened to me, i would have taken care of rachel getting to the deepest bottom of hell, so she won’t be able to try to take over my project ever again. I tried to sue her until she was broken or dead. But thats me, and I am quite a radical guy.

If it is really true and Shannon did this without any pressure and willingly, than I wish him a really good future and a happy life. This step could be understand, because he has a little daughter, who is growing up now and where she comes into a phase, where you must “hide” such things as bme from her. I will follow his other blogs around, because they are fascinating.

If it is again a try of a hostile takeover, than I just want to warn you, that shit like this will not only tear big parts of the community away, but also show some personal weakness of you people. It would change bme in a way many people would not want to accept, and it could cut away some of your most interesting sources.

Eighter way, I wish every party in this case the best that could happen, personally and financially. And I hope it won’t do that much trouble than the last try did.

    Greating, sic

  145. Last time this blog was not organized by Shannon I stopped reading purely because of the quality of content and commentary.

I hope that the people who begin writing for modblog can write as well as Shannon!

    Good luck.

Thanks for your years of news/interest Shannon. Truly one with a passion for body modification. You’ll be missed!

  146. Good luck with everything Shannon. Thanks for everything.

You really changed me as a person.

  147. Shannon, you are the lifeblood of this place.
    BME is dead.

    You will be sorely missed.

  148. Oh man, I can’t believe it’s really happening.. How can it be ? To say it’s the end of an era would be a gross understatement – this is the end of BME :-( Whatever it becomes now, will be something else..

Still – for the last 15 years – thank you Shannon. You’ve changed the lives of thousands of people for the better, saved the health and probably even lives of many and created a wonderful community. You’ve really made a difference. I wish you all the best in the future and once again thank you so much for BME!

  149. Shannon-
like many people here, I feel as though you have changed my life for the better. I found BME five years ago and it has influenced my life as I grew up to the 19 year old I am today. Thanks for being the other parent :)
I hope all goes well for you.

  150. my heart goes out to you shannon, i’m so, so sorry for what’s happened. you’ve given so much… you may not have been able to end things on the best terms, but you can at least bow out knowing you’ve touched the lives of more people than you can possibly imagine.

thanks for everything. i hope your next consuming passion finds you hastily.

so see you down there i guess – i’ll bring the marshmallows.

  151. Le sigh.

I’m glad to hear that BME will keep going but really… things aren’t going to be the same without Shannon. Especially Modblog, I’m going to miss his humor.

  152. With all due respect to Shannon, and I do have alot. To the people that are saying BME is dead. I have to strongly disagree, maybe I’m an optimist but I’d like to believe that this is a new begaining. Yes Shannon will be missed very much. However to count BME itself out is just plain stupid. It shows to me at lest just how much part of the community you are.

  153. bye shannon, im sorry you are leaving so soon after i discovered modblog<3; i wish you the best of luck.

  154. Best of luck in your future endeavors. Keep in touch.

You have changed our lives for the better.

  155. I agree with you Heretic.. BME isn’t dead because Shannon is will change, but it will not die.

  156. …….seriously? shannon, i love you. i’m pretty sure you changed the fucking world man. x

  157. I’ll miss ya, Shannon. But let’s hope we don’t all go “morgue” on this. BME doesn’t need to die simply because of foolish loyalties to the frontman [with all due respect.]
    It’s been a good run.

  158. I’ve found myself on MODBLOG Everyday for as long as i can remember. Your posts have taught me so much about pushing our bodies to the limits and have also educated me on how many oppourtunities and possibilities there truly out there.

I wish you the best of lucky in anything you will be persuing in the future.

  159. BME has been a part of my life for many years. Thank you Shannon for everything! Good luck in the future!

  160. There is a season for everything under Heaven,… that’s from Ecclesiastes,… or the Birds.

I’ve been on here since it was a text only message board in 96. I’ve met great people on here, some of my favorite people ever, & even performed a wedding for two of them, Carmela & Critical Bob.

The spirit of the place has changed. I’m all for change. I change people for a living. But I feel like too much of the vapid PC culture I loathe has corrupted people. There are far too many walls from the way things were a decade ago.

Shannon has been a great fan of my work, & I of his. I hope to meet you someday, & we can trade,…

    Buona fortuna, & DLTBGYD!

  161. It will be strange without you… I’ve been a BME fan since it was Modblog is definitely less entertaining when you’re not writing it.

I hope whatever path you take next brings you joy.

  162. Can anyone say cult status?
I don’t know how this will all turn out, I just hope that bmezine manages to continue doing what it has always done for me, and probably a lot of others who frequent the site: made us feel comfortable with who we are.

  163. Will miss you dearly Shannon, you were like an old friend to us all. Thanks for all your work. You’re a legend, mate.

  164. This is so sad.
    Best of luck Shannon
I think it may have already been said, but it feels like a close family member has just died.
BME will never be the same

  165. Wow :(

Well was going to renew my IAM today but now I think Ill wait and see.

Shannon thank you for the few emails we exchanged and the tshirt I wear with pride when the name BME meant part of Shannon Larret too.
Im so saddened to hear you will not even write about body modification online again. Even if sometimes I was not in agreement with all posted here, things will not be the same without you.

Love to you and your family.

  166. well i guess, this is goodbye Godspeed and happy wanderings i wish you well and all the best

  167. your brain works on a different level shannon a level that his hard to comprehend ……..we will miss you and thank you for everything that you have brought to us you have opened peoples eye, minds, and heart to all of this stuff

  168. Id like to say thank you as well.. I found BME when I was 20 and fresh out of the Marines (long story) If it wasnt for you and this site.. An integral part of the life that brought me to where I am today would be missing…Not to say I wouldnt be me, but without BME which you have invested so much energy into I may not have been influenced by the people I have spoken to met partied and worked with through this community…
    For that I am grateful

  169. I tried posting earlier my opinion and it wasn’t…well…posted….why not?

  170. I am sorry to hear this…. I was very anti for sooo long!!! Shannon thank you for all of the help and support… I dont think it will be the same… Much respect brother… LTD….John D

  171. Shannon, thankyou so much for all the work you’ve done over the years.
BME saved my life. i am eternally grateful.

  172. *saulte* travel well, and through the modifications i’ve gained through contacts here remind me of your work. :)

  173. Fsk. Well, all I can say is, good luck Rachel. You are really going to need it.

  174. Farewell Shannon….the end of something always announce new things to come up…good luck for your plans, thanks for your work and take care of your new life coming up…

  175. I don’t think I could say anything that has not been said already, but I would also like to share my deep appreciation for your work within the industry as a whole. I have lost count of the amount of times I said “I found this awesome picture of a tattoo/scar/piercing/whatever, I’ll give you the link!” to a friend.

When you dedicate your life to a single cause for such a long time, you are bound to have generated a lot of respect among your peers and I truly congratulate you on all the work you have done.

  176. Bye-bye Shannon, Thanks for the insights, smiles and laughs you’ve provided us through this blog!
And lotsa luck with your new ventures!

  177. Merci Shannon pour l’oeuvre que tu as entreprise. Tous mes encouragements pour la nouvelle oeuvre qui te reste à entreprendre.

  178. good luck and thank you shannon, i wouldnt be the person i am today without this site.

  179. Good Luck with everything Shannon I’ll miss your articles and you presense in general on BME. I wouldn’t be the same without you, and neither will BME.

  180. The world became a darker place now that you’re gone
Thank god there are other blogs of yours
So long and thanks for all the fish

  181. sorry to hear about this. BIG shame your going but good luck. looking forward to reading the books you are currently working on

  182. Best of luck in the future, man. My heart is a little broken and I know things will never be the same without you… but I’ll still be sticking around, of course :)

  183. I dropped off of IAM a while back due to time pressures at school. Still, I had entertained the thoughts of reactivating the account once I had time again. Now, probably not. The apparent censorship and excommunication* [I'm using that in a semi-sarcastic way] of IAM members that said some politically unpopular things during the previous hostile takeover has me more than a little leery; I’m not interested in posting things of a personal nature or of dubious legality (see also: grey-legal modifications) on a site that may choose to turn over incriminating evidence to legal authorities and that is under the jurisdiction of the onerous laws of the US. One of the things I liked about BMEzine and IAM is that it was private, and not subject to the laws of the US.
I guess that I will have to wait and see what happens.
For now, it’s out of the light and back into the shadows, away from the semi-public eye.
Good luck with the rest of your life, Shannon. I hope that you are able to find something to do with your time that is financially rewarding enought to work through all of your legal debts.

    * I never had personal experience with this; I was already so involved in school that my page had gone inactive.

  184. Shannon

You are a true inspiration and someone who has given me a sense of place and pride in this world.

Your wisdom, passion and integrity will never be forgotten and I wish you good fortune and safe passage on all your future endeavors.

    Thank you,
    Matty :)

  185. You have been an inspiration for most of us, it´s sad to see you say goodbye.
We all grew more tolerant to the strangest things and learned not to open the “gues the body part” game pics at work :p

I have two quotes on my email signature, one is yours, the other one, I believe, expresses the way any good BME addict thinks.

Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.
    - Christopher Morley

“All biological improvement on this planet has come from those who are freaks. Normal lifeforms contribute little to progress (in fact, when you look at the big picture ‘normal’ and ‘will become extinct’ are synonyms). Only the modified can bring humanity to the future by engendering a culture that equates change with goodness. Morphological freedom is the most important right for us to defend in the 21st century. Be More.”
    Shannon Larrat

We´ll see you in Zentastic so that we don´t get so home-sick.

  186. Sorry to hear you are leaving, Shannon. Good luck, man. I’ve been following BME for 8 or 9 years. Thanks for everything.

  187. Shannon,

Thank you for everything. You’ve given me more hope and bravery than you can imagine. You will be sorely missed.

  188. as proven some months ago, you are the main stone of this site. Without you everything will go very wrong and definitely without the feeling you’ve put in it.

Wish you all the luck in the world and I will continue to follow your work (and probably stop hitting the F5 key everyday on ModBlog) to take a break from work.

  189. shannon!
thanx for all the good things you have done for bmezine, for modblog, and for all this community. and of course thank you for making the largest site about body modification!this job and this success is absolutely yours!we will miss you so much, and this “place” wont be the same without you!
all the best for your future projects, and if you planning to come to Hungary, don’t hesitate writing me:)

  190. Thank-you Shannon so much, for giving us freaks a place like this to hang out :)

  191. Shannon- thank you for starting BME, and IAM. Without them, I wouldn’t BE ME today. I wouldn’t have met my fiance (we met for the first time in Mexico in 2005) and I wouldn’t be nearly as well-informed about what I consider to be one of the most interesting cultural movements I’ve ever been a part of. Thank you for all your years of dedication and best of luck to you and your adorable kiddo. Looking forward to continuing to read your personal site, and I wish you the best!

Rachel & Co- I know that Shannon could not have pulled off the site I remember in my heyday without a dedicated staff. I believe that you all know that now, more than ever, the spirit of BME needs to be brought forward in everything you do, and I have full confidence that it will continue to be a fantastic endeavor. Best wishes to you as well!!

  192. I would like to ask though, would you be doing any “guest appearances” on BME? You know, the odd blog or article etc?

  193. I think that it’s pretty safe to say that you’re going to be sorely missed by all, Shannon. Marcus mentioned guest appearances on BME, and I think that’d be a wonderful idea.

It’s rather sad, and though all I know of you is the words and pictures that I’ve read and seen on a screen, it feels a lot like losing an old friend. For the ‘kids’ like me that have pretty much grown up with this site, it’s not going to be an easy transition.

Good luck Shannon, remember that everyone here on BME, ModBlog and IAM are thinking about you and wishing you well.

  194. it’s probably already been said, but bme/modblog is not the same without shannon. i don’t read modblog just for the content. shannon’s an excellent blogger/interviewer and his style of writing is synonymous with body modification because of bme. i’ll be reading his other blogs still, of course, but i’m saddened to see him leaving this community.

  195. I really almost cried when I read this…Shannon…I don’t know you, but as many BME-ers might agree, I sure feel like I do. You’ve done so much for the body modification world, and your ever-articulate and visually stimulating ModBlog posts have kept me enthralled since the very first time I stumbled upon this glorious page. Your interviews have always been so fascinating, and are arguably the absolute best resources for gaining a glimpse into the subculture, the people, the struggles, and the triumphs of body modification. You have changed lives. You have opened eyes. For all this, and so much more, you will be sorely missed here. I can’t even believe this is happening…
In any case, thank you for everything, and good luck to you in all your future endeavors. Not that you need it. <3

  196. Oh fucking hell! Shannon, I’ll miss you.

BME and ModBlog were no good when you were shut out. The spirit was missing and I expect it to get lost again, permanently now. Like everyone else I’m looking forward to hear about your new adventures in the future. Take care.

  197. Thank you for everything, Shannon. BME’s helped me understand a ton about mods and such that I didn’t before, and Modblog has made me laugh, gag, applaud, and stare at people several times over. You really gave them hell. :)
    Best of luck in everything.

  198. I’ve only been following BME for 6 years, and when I found it I realized I wasn’t alone and gained some wicked ideas.

Aw, goodbye Shannon! I wish you all the luck in the future!

  199. I imagine the only reason why Shannon would stop “writing online about body modification” altogether is that he was legally obliged to, and the reason why he would be legally obliged to would be that new owners of bmezine would like to avoid competition, and if that is the case, I wish them all the worst. Unless proven wrong, I will believe that the above is correct because I can’t believe Shannon suddenly lost all interest in body modification and decided to instead pursue other subjects such as life of birds and medieval music.

  200. This site has helped me become the person I’ve always wanted and knew I should be. Thank you shannon for ur commitment and for everything this sight has taught me. Im trying to have faith this site won’t change but I know it will never be the same without you moderating it. Im gonna miss ya…ur my favourite person I’ve never met ;)

  201. As many have already stated you will be dearly missed by me and the whole community. It’s not going to be the same without you.
Bmezine helped me realize who I am, and who I want to be over the many years. That’s all thanks to you, Shannon. I hope life treats you well,

  202. Well…wow. Unexpected, and sad. I wouldn’t be half the person I am now without Shannon’s input into BME. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like without him.

  203. Oliveira, he never said he completely lost interest in body modification.. he did however say he was going to work on more books about body modification.

  204. I dont know about you guys… but the site was shit when Shannon wasnt around. I dont care for Rachel… i think shes kind of a bitch. Comments were cencerd when she was running it. It is a bunch of bullshit. This looks like another case of gold digging. Someone couldnt get a life of their own so they took someone elses. I doubt i will remain a member of the BME community. This is not whats its about. Shannon made me realize that im not alone, im not different. and Holy Hell i havent tried to kill myself since my discovery of BME. wow. Im done. Farewell BME.

  205. thank you for everything Shannon! you couldn’t have done a better job, and i agree with the others. this site has changed my life and the way i view myself for the better. i’ll make this quick, before i start to tear up…bye Shannon! :(

  206. Wow. I feel a little like crying; this is really sad. Since finding BME, my life has changed. The website helped me to accept things about myself, to find other people with whom I can talk about body modification, and to learn more than I ever would have thought was possible about it before finding this place. I will miss your modblog posts enormously.

BME wasn’t the same when you were gone before, and it will certainly never be the same again now. I never new you personally, but it feels like losing a friend. Good luck with whatever comes next.

  207. little part of me feels like it just rolled over and died, much luck to all your future endeavors, this site has been a part of me since i stumbled across it when it was just bme.freeq :) much love to you
    < 3

  208. Best of luck and thanks for everything. I really enjoyed reading this blog. :-)

  209. Sad to hear shannon wont be posting anymore. BME/modblog has helped the body modification community so much, and he created a community that truly became part of people’s lives. glad to hear it will be left in trusted hands

  210. Sooooooo sad. This was daily dose of I am not different, there are a lot of “me” out there. I have met and talked with lots of people because of this site. I related to shannon easily, and enjoyed his comments.

Alas, I will let my subscription run out, and bme will be left behind. I could always take or leave Rachel til this last batch of trouble. I will always think she was the last nail in the coffin of BME.

Goodbye bme, Goodbye shannon, goodbye my modified friends. And now to go clear my iam page. Just wished I could delete the pics I let Shannon post. Who knew it would come to this?

  211. “you built an excellent fjord slartibartfast.”
Heard! and you should rightfully be proud of it!

  212. NOOOO, shannon, thats so sad to hear you’re going. i’m sure i don’t just speak for myself when i say you have touched lives and helped body mods so immensely. thank you, for all you have done. i respect you so much. thank you and a sad goodbye

  213. He deleted his page (and consequently, all the associated forums, like the TOS forum, Tech Support, Whatever, etc), go read about it on CT’s page (and Rachel’s, if you want to hear about the actual structure of BME, rather than buying the bullshit Oh-noes-it-was-all-Shannon-now-BME-is-rooted school of thought).

  214. You will be missed Shannon!! Do take care and best of luck in all you do! <3

  215. This is a total bum. There is already a difference in the content.
    It’s very noticeable.
    So long Shan.

  216. you will be missed.
    and continually loved.

what you’ve done here has changed my life and countless others.

i cant put into words the debt i feel i owe to you.

  217. wow I hope he reads these comments still-
I sat and read through them- what a legacy to have created- the lives he has touched- the impact he has made.
    it is beautiful really.
while I am sad for the circumstance- I hope this sad reason for sharing still has the benefit of showing Shannon the mark he has made on so many people’s lives- for the better.

    Thank you Shannon.
I can’t wait to see the art you put out with the time you may have.

  218. If someone who actually knows what is going on would just tell the truth now that it is all over and done with, I think a lot of the drama could be avoided. the little hints we have gotten have been conflicting from the two sides. If you want the community to stay together, we deserve an explanation.

  219. Good luck shannon. Thank you for everything, all the information you’ve provided, all the interesting new things we got to see everyday, and even for all the wtf gross pictures and moments. You will be missed.

  220. Well, God-damn, this is a dark day. Another dead hero, actually that’s romanticizing the situation. This is just ugly and depressing. Of course BME is a community, but the community has been strengthened by Shannon’s involvement, and I believe his unique voice and vision have polarized and vitalized this community. I feel that his loss, is our loss as well. BME will continue, but it will never be the same, and I don’t believe the change will be for the better. I’ve already seen some ominous signs of the direction BME is going. Many are leaving with Shannon because they have so much respect for him that they do not wish to be a part of this fractured community after the hostile take-over. Not only are many people who loved the BME that Shannon helped shape leaving, but already the petty fucks are celebrating in their usual obnoxious ways, and becoming even more active on BME. And I would see this as a classic tragedy, with Shannon the brave martyr, but that’s not true. I never thought I’d say this, but SHANNON SOLD OUT! Yes, he was under extreme prolonged legal and fiscal pressure. But shit, I thought he would have gone out in more of a bang than a whimper. And did he make some kind of deal with the devil, or is he just whole-heartedly embracing defeat? No Bodytwo, or even writing anything about body modification? And then after having his life’s work taken away from him, he comes crawling back to help smooth the transition? This is just pathetic and sad on so many levels.

  221. very very sad :(
    I agree with est,
I wonder if it is possible to do fundraising to pull you out of your debts.
I think the whole community needs Shannon.

  222. Geez, it’s like I was the last to know!!!!

I’ll sorely miss your contributions (to this site and to the subject & culture as a whole), Shannon.

I’m so glad and so proud to have had an email interview with you some 6 years ago with prompt response for a university thesis I wrote about the connection of body modification with spirituality and aesthetics. Best A grade I ever got!

You’re an inspiration to me. Thank you, and although there is no reason for you to stop discussing body mods on your own accord & blogs, enjoy your other passions and best of luck in your future and current endeavors!

  223. Damnn… I just can’t believe this! Shannon has really changed my life with BME/IAM/MODBLOG. He has helped me out of a hole that I never had survived without his help. He has make me happy and feel “ME” ; the person I want to be. I have no words how Shannon changed my life in a good way!

I want to wish you all the best! Take care Shannon!
I will miss you and so will do the other modified people of this community! Thank you for everything!

  224. Agree with Erin as much as I know how hard roo works and hear how lovely it is. The posts are just missing that extra something :(

  225. :( :( :(
    sad sad sad… hate… sad…
    aw! suck… dont go… *tear*
    :( :( :(

  226. Shannon, body modification has come to where it is today because of BME. Because of you we are a community. Thank you for working hard, for all your expenses and concerns. Thank you for providing us information, knowledge is power, so thank you for enpowering us. Thank you for sharing your life with the world, and for giving others a space to share theirs as well. And most of all, thank you for respecting our diversity, and teaching us how to do that as well.
I wish you best of luck with everything! You will be deeply missed.

  227. i’m sure this is not a desicion that has been taken lightly and i hope that it works out for the best. It’s such a shame that you wont be a part of BME anymore and i hope that Rachael and the others who’ll be in control, will maintain the high standards and unbiased attitude.

I hope that when it comes to my kids exploring body mods BMEzine still exists and is as welcoming, informative and interesting as it has been.

    Good Luck Shannon

  228. Wow, apparently I’m very late.

I don’t know if you’re reading this Shannon, but thank you so much. I’m thinking of you and Ari.

Not to be overly dramatic, but it’s definitely the passing of an age. If Shannon’s wrong and we’re not all torn apart by robots, surely someone will be chronicling this saga one day. ;)

  229. WTF? I go away for a few days and come back only to find everything has changed. Damn.
    Shannon you will be missed.
Visiting this site for the last few years has opened my eyes to so many different types of people and modifications. I got my first scarification after reading about the procedure and the available artists here.
BME has been a bastion of stability in my chaotic life. Now it will change, hopefully not into something horrible and disfigured. *sigh*
Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours.

  230. #145: What makes you think liking science, mathematics, and linguistics, or dressing in neutral clothes, makes you “very atypical” of ModBlog readers?

    Shannon: Best wishes always.

  231. it was a pleasure to have had a person like you, that with a website, this new means of communication, you be able to see and do communicate a lot of people worldwide who share these arts corporal …. notice of the problem safe will be pressing …!!
Now I hope that you have the time necessary to complete all your projects …
I miss … goodbye in the next life! ^_^

  232. RIP?? Shannon has not died and neither has this community. Times change… in this case unfortunately. But it hasn’t stopped me from being a proud member of this community.
