New suspension book!

Great news, but first a big congratulations to Matt Larkin for the indie release of his first book. For the last few years he’s been shooting the folks from Rites of Passage using ambrotype photography (ie. wet plate, a 19th century technique that’s rare these days). Click on the pictures to jump to BMEshop where it’s available (and visit Matt on IAM if you’d like to see more pictures).

I’m eagerly watching my mailbox for my copy, I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time now!

  1. Seeing that picture taken inside his studio brings me back to the wonderful hours I spent there. It’s truly an inspiriational space, his home, land, all of it. Anyone who is in ROP, has hung with ROP, or wants to should own this book. Everyone should own this book really…

  2. Wow. These are stunning, I am awe struck! Good for him for resurrecting that technique, it gives results that no other method can (clearly that’s obvious in the examples here). Congrats Mr. Larkin, your art is inspiring.

  3. i was lucky enough to have matt take a couple pictures of me suspening last year at the ROP bbq they came out wonderful u can view them on my page

  4. I love that style of photography, it reminds me of Sally Mann. There needs to be some top-class imagery of suspensions, etc, out there. I would put that on my wall.

  5. wow it looks like those old circus freak show photographs!

is it an entire book of photography?

  6. Damn man that’s freaking awesome
