BME Launch update

Rachel is working on getting the new site launched. Unfortunately, this morning the main BME computer had a drive failure, so now she is having to fix that before the launch can take place.

In the mean time here is some info off of Rachel’s IAM page about the launch:

Thanks to Jon for making the changes to SSO.BMEzine.com so that you can log in there and change your email address.

As I’ve said a bunch of times, this will really help us when we’re importing accounts so that we don’t make multiple accounts for people. We’d like to start off with as few garbage/extra accounts as possible. So please help out by making sure all of your accounts have the same email address.

Here are the places where you should update your email address:

For your BME memberships (both free and paid as well as your paid IAM billing accounts) visit BME’s Billing/Account Management System

For your IAM account, switch to edit mode and click the green edit button  next to USER.

For your wordpress based accounts (ask.BME/Modblog), thewiki and BME411 go to SSO.BMEzine.com and after you log in, click my account and there will be text that says “Click here to change your email address”. You’ll have to enter in your new email address and then you’ll get an email with a link to confirm the change. Since the SSO manages your log in for all of those sites, you just need to make the change at the SSO.

Last but not least, to update your BMEshop account,go to theBMEshop Login page. After you log in, at the bottom of that page there is a link that says “Update your profile”. Click that and update your email address from there.

If I’m not mistaken, the first things that will get merged are BME and BMEshop (since that front end was launched a while ago but is running on it’s own account management system). This will make it so when you earn credits towards BMEshop under your account, it will be automatic and can be stored automatically! No more waiting for emails or filling out other stuff. Hooray!

As always, please post any questions about the launch in the forum linked below.

CT has to install some updates on IAM that require some reboots so that will happening later tonight. It should only mean a couple minutes of downtime though.

  1. SSO FTW! Now you’re talking my language. Are you doing true sso with a federated assertion samlv2 model or is it a hack? (mines a hack.. hey bandaids exist for a reason!)

If you ever need sso help just lemme know. I do this for big buck for big business =)

check out my SSO blog over yonder….—> http://www.IDMrockstar.com

piece out! time to go record EPISODE #3!!!! MUahahahahhah!

  2. Angie: What is the error message that you’re getting? I can’t give you an answer till I know what problem you’re having. Sorry.

  3. When I click the SSO.BMEzine.com my Firefox browser warns me as follows:

If you understand what’s going on, you
can tell Firefox to start trusting this site’s identification.
Even if you trust the site, this error could mean that someone is
    tampering with your connection.

  4. i know nada about computers.. does everyone need to do this to keep our IAM pages?

  5. I’m trying from firefox. I get:

sso.bmezine.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
The certificate expired on 7/24/2009 11:57 PM.

    (Error code: sec_error_expired_issuer_certificate)

    * This could be a problem with the server’s configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.

    * If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

  6. I think because the server’s certificate hasn’t been registered Firefox assumes it is a malicious site. I just made an exception in Firefox (Tools > Options > Security tab > Exceptions button, then just type in sso.bmezine.com)

Firefox allowed me to open the site after this.

  7. Just make an exception for the security certificate. It’s self signed, meaning we didn’t pay a couple hundred dollars for the security certificate, it’s just as secure as a 3rd party signed certificate.

By making sure all of the accounts I listed have the same email address, it reduces the amount of duplicate accounts that are created when we merge all of the multiple usernames that we would make when we finish this process.

I really need everyone to do this and it will only take 5 minutes of your time to reduce hours of workload on our end.

OurLadyMyzNecessary : Please read the post and update your email address to make sure that it is a current email address that you have access to and matches the other memberships for the site.

  8. I’m having some trouble loading the SSO site as well. I’m using Firefox on a Mac, and I have the site listed under my exceptions, but when I try to load it I get this message:

    “the new home of iam.bmezine.com
if you’re seeing this message, the scripts are turned off.

i’m sure there’s a good reason for it.

    right?

I have tried a few things, and as far as I know I have everything enabled…
    Any ideas?

  9. Can we have an update on when the launch is going to happen? I’m getting antsy in my pantsy.

  10. ImpressiveNads: I don’t know. I keep going off of what the developers tell me and then the date comes and goes with no release. I can’t rely on them to stick to their release schedules so I don’t know where we are at. I have to finish uploading 40GB of data, which about 15-20G has uploaded so far. Once we get all these uploads done, hopefully there won’t be an issues like corrupt data etc but then once that is done we should be all caught up and the first phase of the relaunch can start.

We’ve also still got to import the video clips which means importing 360GB of video clips, rending them and then adding them to the site. It’s all very upsetting that it’s not going smoothly but having spent the almost of the last decade of my life behind the scenes here, I’m getting very used to that being status quo!
