World Record Piercing Attempt

Steven Deerwood (who got the piercings) and Jeremy “Jay” Van Wert at Body Matrix, Inc in Bemidji, MN recently did this Guiness attempt — in all they did 2,507 piercings in six hours and fifteen minutes. I’m still waiting for someone to crack the old [unofficial] Berkeley 5000 record, but two thousand five-hundred piercings in six hours is quite impressive!

  1. My two favorite things about this picture :
    1. The “NO WHINING” sign on the wall.
    2. How the guy getting all of these piercings doesn’t seem to have any visible body mods.

  3. You know what’s interesting is that the majority of people that I know of that have shot for records like this have not been heavily modified (other than this one massive ritual).

  7. even with anti-septic techniques, this has to be a MASSIVE shock to the body. I wonder how safe something like this is

  9. It’s pretty cool that they have someone there monitoring his heartbeat. At least I think that’s what they’re doing. Safety first!!

  11. Having that many piercings so close together, wouldn’t his skin shifting as he stood up/sat down cause the needles to shift? And seeing as they are so close together… I don’t know.

I’d love to get some play piercings done, but nothing that extreme.

I wonder what he was listening to on his discman… “Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out.”

  15. My piercer and I have talked about doing a large quantity of play piercings at one time, and she said that adrenaline support would be good because if too much gets in your system you can have a heart attack (hence the monitors) Anyone know of any prep he did before he attempted this?
