I’m not convinced this is a good idea.

Ah yes, let’s drive some nice deep solid captive bead rings up some girl’s spine. I’m sorry. I hate criticizing work that gets sent to me, because I feel like I’m like punching someone who has offered to help me in the gut and I feel all guilty, but come on piercers… it’s been well known how to do [relatively] successful surface piercings for a long time!

I sincerely apologize for using the person in the photo like this, but I really feel strongly that unless I’m misreading things and this was only meant to last a little while and leave a line of scars, it’s just so wrong to still see piercings being done like this.

Wow, those look like pretty big rings too. I agree with you Shannon, all the girl will end up with is scars and possibly spinal injuries.

Yeah, those seem really deep… I like the attempt at using stone beads though. They get points for that, but not enough to get them out of the red! 😉

Bad Bad plan. I feel sorry for her and some shame for the piercer that thought this was a good thing to post for the world to see. Shame they didnt put thier shop logo on it.

    all i see is… pain
those rings are deep and would have hurt liek hell!!!

Judging by the number and colour of the beads they look like they’re meant to be Chakras (the colour of the top one is a little off though)

    Posted on 05-10-2006 05:52:59 by gally99
regardless, that is an awesome picture, and even if they don’t last (probably), the scars will also look awesome…

Posted on 05-10-2006 06:43:12 by LostVoodoo
That looks so painful and scary. The poor girl. I cannot imagine though that she would seriously think of these as a permanant piercing project. Points for the pretty beads though.

you have to remember how little some people really know about how they choose to modify themselves. She may have no knowledge of how surface piercings work, and may be going on the word of a “professional” who promised her that this would be successful. On a pure comfort level, can you imagine laying on your back or leaning back in a chair with all those large gauge CBRs in your back?

Posted on 05-10-2006 10:36:30 by Ari
It looks like those were driven straight into her spine. Ow

    YAAAH.

    Um… ow.

    Posted on 05-10-2006 13:15:00 by c0rrosion
hopefully she realizes they need to get taken out before any real complications set in…

Posted on 05-10-2006 13:16:34 by randomspectator
Christ they look deep…it’s a really cool picture (and I hope that’s all she’s intending to do with it) but at what price scar and general injury wise?

I’d be interested to know what gauge the rings are- they look pretty big :-/

It’s a beautiful picture but it still sends shivers up my spine just thinking about how bad that must’ve hurt because those piercings look really deep.

Posted on 05-10-2006 15:27:26 by Whispers
Honestly, I think it looks cool. But fucking OW, and I seriously hope no complications arise from that.

ajfaksfaksf, could you imagine falling backwards and landing on them?

Posted on 05-10-2006 16:10:27 by penski
    That looks nasty.

    🙁

i think it’s interesting to note that, out of all the variety of posts on modblog, this is the type of thing that sends shivers up my spine (pun obviously intended).

My back feels funny just looking at this.
    Gah.

I can’t help but think she MUST know these aren’t permanent. I mean she won’t even be able to put any weight on her back until they’ve rejected out (which I can only imagine is highly unpleasant). I’m reminded of an old picture of a large guage cbr madison and the process of it rejecting. It wasn’t as deep but ow.

    Posted on 05-10-2006 19:23:57 by kuroneko711
If she really wanted scars (which, little circles going down your spine on both sides might actually look pretty neat) she should have concidered the possibility of branding, instead of this. I personally don’t think doing this is worth risking spinal damage, which could occur with an infection seeing they’re so deep. Being paralized isn’t worth a few scars, use your head, people.

    Posted on 05-10-2006 20:06:24 by Sassie_L
I’m with VEAL, I think it’s a chakra thing due to the bead colours. But ouch! One hopes she wasn’t told they’d heal….

Posted on 05-11-2006 09:13:11 by Raven
perhaps they are d-rings? i’m pretty sure if they were real rings they might be touching bone or at least have entered muscles…

    Owwwwwww….. God damn…. Owwwww

i would like everyone to touch the flesh on your spine right now, tell me how tight it is, and then tell me how in the hell those were done so deep…

    BAD IDEA

    Sub spinal piercings!

Posted on 05-11-2006 19:06:13 by alrdygrownup
    Holy ouch, Batman!

This looks both insanely painful and insanely dangerous. Could you imagine an INFECTION in one of these?

    AHHH

    Posted on 05-11-2006 20:19:03 by Whitewolf95
Ok I am a “healthy” woman and in no way do I have enough skin along my spine for a piercing like this. The pain WOW I can only imagine.

Posted on 05-11-2006 23:28:48 by laura
Ouch! Since you were wondering…according to her IAM page, they’re all 8g.

Posted on 05-11-2006 23:56:01 by vienna
Hmm… is it possible that it might have been done with a D-ring captive? Regardless, it doesn’t seem like a good idea to try to scar that way… She definetly could have used a different method if she wanted to leave scars.

I just wish she would see this entry and comment on it already. Don’t leave us all wondering. Give us something!!!

Posted on 05-12-2006 15:20:43 by Jets
I really hope they’re D-rings, otherwise I can’t even understand how this was done.

Posted on 05-13-2006 00:33:21 by etoile
Um. Whoa. Yeah, spinal injuries much? DEFINITELY a bad idea. I totally respect people’s right to do shit that they think is cool, but this could result in paralysis.

Posted on 05-14-2006 00:35:53 by Anon
Given a way some of the rings are sitting in the first picture they look like standard CBRs

Posted on 05-14-2006 21:50:02 by Rockerbaby
Sir Psycho…I touched my spine and…yikes omfg.

Though all pain/injury/bad idea/human/ethics aside, it looks very very intersting and beautiful.

Posted on 05-15-2006 03:38:37 by Yorkshiresoul
I’m quite well, padded shall we say, and there isn’t enough dpeth on my back for rings like that, they must be touching her spine, dangerous.

Posted on 05-17-2006 17:15:17 by uuuu
I just pinched the flesh on my spine and that was already a very uncomfortable sensation… it was like my back was telling me “don’t even think about piercing me here!!!”, and I have pretty stretchy skin and I’m a bit overweight so I think nobody should do this.
Getting a tattoo of the rings would have been a very cool idea though.

HOLY FUCKING JEBUS ON A COCKTAIL SKEWER. Would those of you lucky enough to have nice normal spines kindly keep them that way? Thank you. Signed, A. Horrified Gimp.
