If Only There Were a Way to Cry Every Day

I think my favorite part of my interview with Kim Saigh was the bit where she challenged the idea that every tattoo must have a deep, philosophical meaning, and the prevailing notion that important moments in one’s life must be commemorated with a tattoo. “It should have significance,” she said, “but I always tell people that you should get tattooed because you like tattoos. You do not have to memorialize someone by getting a tattoo — it doesn’t mean you love them less if you don’t.”

With that said, hats are off to Dan, the subject of the above video, and a huge fan of the NFL’s Detroit Lions, who just put on the most abjectly terrible, historically bad season, probably in sports history, going a soul-crushing 0-16. To celebrate, Dan had the following monument to mediocrity etched into his chest:

At least he seems to be in good humor about it. But the money quote comes from his wife:

“I’m super embarrassed right now, but what am I gonna do? I love him. He’s my husband. Go Lions.”

That is some seriously touching commitment. But what does the sports blogosphere think of this? Let’s check in with Matt Ufford, editor of With Leather and a co-founder of Kissing Suzy Kolber:

Thanks, Matt! Go Lions!

  1. im just going to say i definitly agree with that quote

“It should have significance,” she said, “but I always tell people that you should get tattooed because you like tattoos. You do not have to memorialize someone by getting a tattoo — it doesn’t mean you love them less if you don’t.”

and i think more people have to realize that.

  2. Being a Packers fan (divisional rivals), I’m extremely happy that the Lions went 0-16. Props to this guy though haha.

  3. I’m so glad that my team, the Steelers, doesn’t suck. I can’t wait to get my Steelers ink.

  4. Why is this drizzle being posted on modblog? I appreciate the light humor, but I don’t feel like it’s really worthy of it’s own post. Was there seriously nothing more interesting on the internet?

  5. @ #9, Sugarbelle

I believe the word you’re looking for is “drivel” (nonsense;meaningless talk), seeing as “drizzle” refers to a light, misty rainfall. And I like that they posted this; it’s nice to read some light humor every once in a while.

  6. Kim is pretty awesome. It’s good to see a BME reach out to a good tattoo artist after all these years.

  7. i like how whenever a news station covers a story centering around a tattoo, they more often than not, make the person who got the tattoo, seem like a complete idiot.
like, “oh he has this tattoo, now look at his REALLY shitty ones and we’ll all laugh.”

poor dude just loves the lions. hahaha

  8. This guy rules! My husband just got a Detroit Lions hat and can’t wait to wear it proudly. This is a much higher level of commitment to the underdog! LOVE IT!

  9. At keast he isnt a fairweather sports fan. He really loves his team in the rough times as well as the good times. good for him.
