Abyssinian Tattoos Part II

I recently posted a historical article mentioning that in Ethiopia, mostly women get tattoos. John Durante sends in this photo of him and an Ethiopian client of his at Laughing Buddha in Seattle, Washington. I thought I’d posted it in the past, but I couldn’t find it — my apologies if this is a repeat.

  1. I think I’ve read every single post on ModBlog and I dont remember this photo so I think you’re good.

Did his studio do all that face work then?

  2. there is nothing but deep love in my heart for the spectacular specimens of humanity at laughing buddha.

  3. Absolutely beautiful work on her. But we all know I love facial tattoos.

  4. This man makes me so happy. He is an icon to me because of the pride he takes in his work.

  5. Her facial tattoos are beautifully simple and succinct. Sometimes so little can say so much.

  6. some of her work was done in Ethiopia traditionally, she wanted to continue the tattoos, at came in to Laughing Buddha, and had George Long continue her work, she has had more tattooing since this photo, as well I have done her bridge, and lateral lip piercings since this photo… I love seeing her in my neighborhood almost daily!!!

  7. John Durante, You amaze me so much. 😀 You’ve been all around the world! I is jealous…..:P
