Another IAM Server Status Update

OK, first I want to again confirm and emphasize that all of the data on the machine is both backed up and currently undamaged. The server has been pulled out of the cage now to try and figure out what component has gone bad (I honestly have no idea at this point). It’s at the shop now, and I anticipate talking to them at about 4:30 EST at which point I will post another update here. It will surprise me if they get the machine back to me today but they understand it’s a priority and I hope to have it back online tomorrow. Here’s the view that I stared at for most of the morning while I was running various tests:

In a worst case scenario we’ll put together a new machine from scratch tomorrow and transplant the drive array.

  1. Thanks for all your hard work Shannon!!! :) Also, thanks for going out of your way for all of us!!! :)

  2. If this carries on, i’ll have to develop a life off the computer!!! Eeeeek!!!

    Good luck for the afternoon Shannon. Hope they can fix it. I’m dying here. lol

  3. Crap, I forgot that when IAM goes down, the review site goes down too. :( I was going to use that to waste time while IAM was gone. Hopefully it will be up by the morning.

  4. i’ve just been cruising through the wiki. well IAM is blocked at work anyway, so modblog and the wiki keeps me entertained! But when I get to a net cafe, i hope it’s back up and running!
    Thanks Shannon for being so dedicated to getting everything back in working order!

  5. Even though I’m shaking and vomiting due to the lack of IAM(in which sits the contact information for most of my friends in my IM archive), I still have not been tempted even remotely by MySpace even once…..
    Because MySpace is de Debil!!!!!!

    I miss my porn. *sigh*

    If anyone can fix it, it’s Shannon. *giggles and doesn’t explain*

  6. Thanks for working so hard on getting IAM back up Shannon. if you need some local Toronto help to get this back up and running (I/E an errand bitch boy), don’t hesitate to ask.

    Thanks again

  7. Thanks Pierre :)

    Basically this will go one of three ways:

    1. If the server problem part is found today, it gets ordered, put in tomorrow, and no problems, bringing us back online tomorrow.

    2. If the server problem part is found today, it gets ordered, put in tomorrow, and requires a reinstall that gets us back online tomorrow or Saturday depending on the complexity.

    3. If the server problem part is NOT found today, I build a completely new server tomorrow and reinstall everything around it. This gets us back online probably on Saturday (and leaves me a nice server to put something new on).

  8. it’s a total shit when our necessities are under the will of a bunch of plastic, silice and other stuff :P we know u are almost there…. ;)

  9. The problem is that no matter what you do, the hardware is crappy. Fast yes–but crappy.

    Please, please put the shit on better hardware and use something other than windows already, kthx.

  10. Well according to the wiki, symptoms to expect from IAM withdrawal are:

    * Tremors
    * Extreme irritability
    * Nausea
    * Emesis (vomiting)
    * Acute onset of temporary situational depression
    * Increase in BME Encyclopedia activity.

  11. What an amazing sky. It casts such a surreal glow over those buildings which are already kind of strange; looks like another world.

  12. Yep… the house is clean, the third load of laundry is in the dryer and the dishes will be done soon…. it’s amazing what I get done when I don’t have IAM. Now, of course, the question is what in the world am I supposed to do all day tomorrow? Heh.

    That said, I miss the slacking IAM gives me.

  13. It has been good for me. I have been out riding my bike enough to cause me to have to do some maintenence.

  14. Good luck with the repairs, and thank you very, very much for all the work you do here, Shannon. We often don’t think of it until something goes wrong, but you have obviously made this your life’s work and have done a helluva job! The members of bme and members of the bodmod community, whether they log on here or not, owe you a huge debt.

    re: the picture:

    Toronto, City of Tomorrow.

    I am jealous and wanna be a Canadian.

  15. I guess its really true, you don’t know you’ve got until its gone!! (I have checked my myspace five times today, I think I’m just as addicted to IAM as everyone else…)

  16. Isn’t this picture the building used in one of the Resident Evil movies? Number two I believe?

  17. thanks for your hard work, shannon!

    geeze, i went outside today…. who knew there was all that stuff out there? :P

    Snailuv is right. Myspace is de debil… so why do i have a page?

  18. It always confuses the hell out of me when you go down .. I most always think it is MY computer that is the problem … but sooner or later I head for the main site to check it out … so thank for putting a message there … GREAT pic btw …

  19. raevyn – They block IAM where you work, but not ModBlog?! Wow.

    smurf – “the question is what in the world am I supposed to do all day tomorrow?” Come here and clean my place?

  20. shannon…you’ve to tell me…how do you post process your photos….
    I go totally crazy, when I see images like yours..I would like to use the same kind of pp for mine too…
