Abstract Black Arm Tattoo

I’ve featured work by Lionel (Out of Step, France) here before, but I really liked the way this full-black forearm was capped off. I think I’d like it better though if the hand was fully black as well, as if he’d fallen into a barrel of black ink or something. But black hands are pretty weird looking I guess and would move the tattoo into a very different visual space.

Unusual upper lip horizontal piercing

Here’s a very unusual horizontal lip piercing done in the upper lip (usually they’re lower lip with a surface bar, not that even that placement is common) by the good folks at California Tattoo in Sacramento. If I had to guess I’d say it wasn’t kept that long, although you never know — but I think with this jewelry and placement rejection will be very likely (and speedy).

That said, you never know, and I’ve seen far less stable things heal.

Mosque Tattoo

It’s quite common for me these days to see Islamic tattoos. I think in part because the calligraphy is so beautiful, as well as (the debatable “fact” that) becoming a Muslim is now one of the “cool” ways for white kids to rebel (sorry, please don’t blow up the BME HQ to show you’re serious), we’re seeing more and more of them… but most are script, so Phil and I were surprised to see this tattoo by Jim Coey in San Jose, CA, of a mosque.

Now, someone tattoo a cartoon of Mohammed please so I can post it.

Bryan Adams Tattoo

Heh Hey, it’s not the song I’d have chosen personally to tattoo on my back, but good for her for at least getting the tune right… Db – Dbsus4 – Gb – Db… Most people are too sloppy to bother. Anyway, this is by Steve the Gypsy in Sheffield. I do not know if that’s gypsy as in Gypsy Cab or as in Gypsy Moth, of if he’s an actually a bonafide gypsy.
