Someone left the cake out in the rain…

Obscure song reference for a title?  Check.  The following feet were submitted with the subsection “musical reference” checked off but I can’t quite figure it out.  Being the uncool member of BME’s staff, that doesn’t surprise me much.  If anyone knows what it is, please post, I’m curious.  These feet were inked at Big Deluxe in Salt Lake City, by R2.  The submitter tells us, “Caramels & fudge for mom and chocolate & raspberry cake for dad.”

  1. Yummy…
i love- what an awesome way to tribute your folks!
i am thinking perhaps along the lines of chocolate fudge cake? (not really thinking outside the box- sorry) mum’s fudge… dad is cake…together they become her fave dessert?!

  2. MacArthur Park writing buy Jimmy Webb. it is also a reference to the movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert where Bernadette and Bob sleep outside of the camper one night.

    I love foot tattoos.

  3. It’s called Macarthur park, by Richard Harris

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
    It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed,
    In love’s hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants

    [Chorus]
MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down…
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don’t think that I can take it
‘Cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again
    Oh, no!

I recall the yellow cotton dress
    Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

    [Chorus]

There will be another song for me
    For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
    Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
    You’ll still be the one.

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky.
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
    I’ll be thinking of you
    And wondering why.

MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down…
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don’t think that I can take it
‘Cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again
    Oh, no!
    Oh, no
    No, no
    Oh NO!!

  4. Viola, I know, it’s by Richard Harris. I meant the musical reference in the tattoos. I picked the line from MacArthur’s park because the song is obscure and I don’t understand what, if any, musical reference the tattoos have. Maybe the submitter made a mistake when they checked that box…

  5. Oops, I see you mentioned it was by Richard Harris, I scrolled too fast. :) My mother has that record, I’ve been listening to that song since I was a kid and I even bought it on iTunes so I could have it on my computer. Ha.

  6. “someone left the cake out in the rain. OH NOOOO! i was gonna eat that cake, but now it’s all wet, and i don’t think i want any!” brak makes me smile.
