Team America

Who says September 11th and the ongoing wars around the world aren’t linked? Dare you disagree with a tattoo? Those things are permanent you know.

The tattoo above is by Tank’s Tattoos in Detroit Lakes, MN, and the tattoo below is by Lord Dunce in Norwood, Mass.

As a point of trivia, I wanted to name Rachel and my daughter America, but she didn’t think it was quite as cool a name as Abbie Hoffman and I did apparently….

Germany loves BME!

I just got a wonderful letter from Cara, a fellow German (although she lives there, I don’t) who is affected by the ban on linking to BME in Germany (which keeps it out of the search engines there for example). She’s in front of the Brandenburger Tor of Berlin in the rain sticking her tongue out at the BPjS for banning BME with the explanation that it contained (and I love this), “highly condemnable and revolting scenarios of gruesome violence against humans”. That should be my new slogan.

What’s funny is that’s pretty much how people looked at me last time I was in Germany too.

Human Rights = Animal Rights

A few posts ago I mentioned an animal liberation tattoo (which reminds me, remember the Vegan Tattoos article?), so I thought I’d share a quite different interpretation on the same theme while I had it in my mind. Anyway, this tattoo was done at Liquid Chaos in Dearborn Heights, michigan, and the bearer writes, “it stands for human and animal rights being equal.”

Brother’s Keeper Tattoo

Genesis 4:9-12 “And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?”

“And he said, What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.”

Gadsen Flag Tattoo

Since I’m currently in America, I thought I’d share Scott’s Liberty or Death tattoo, by Big James at Artistic Armor (love the name of the studio by the way) in Tampa, Florida. Scott writes,

The rattlesnake is taken from a Revolutionary War era "Gadsden Flag". It represents colonists standing up to England — "She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. She never wounds 'till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy."

Anyway, I’ll try and post more when I get back on Tuesday, but officially I’m starting up again on Wednesday and will also start working on an entirely new format for ModBlog shortly to make it more searchable and so on.

The Clash Tattoo

This tattoo is actually based on The Clash’s “Know your Rights” and was done by Dana at She-Devils in Shreveport, Louisiana. I can’t imagine though how much this is misinterpreted as a gun rights tattoo.

[Right] Number 1
You have the right not to be killed
Murder is a CRIME!
Unless it was done by a
Policeman or aristocrat
Know your rights

And Number 2
You have the right to food money
Providing of course you
Don’t mind a little
Investigation, humiliation
And if you cross your fingers
Rehabilitation

Number 3
You have the right to free
Speech as long as you’re not
Dumb enough to actually try it.
