I love these DIY brandings by Vasiliy in Russia! No offense intended to people with complex scars, but my taste in this particular modification really lies in big, bold, and simple.

Texture Scarification
I imagine the this scarification by Steve Truitt at Stay Gold Tattoo & Body Modification and Ascension Studios in Albuquerque, NM must be just amazing from a tactile point of view… I have a series of branded stripes up my torso, but these are much nicer!
Firesuspension? Suicidefire?
This “definitely don’t try this at home” suspension was planned and executed by PSFitz (originator of the idea and victim — he has a forum on his IAM page on the subject as well), Jared of Onetribe Organics, and Cameron from Enigma Studios in Richmond, VA, and a stunt guy named Jake.
They write, “The event involved a two point suspension during which Paul was set on fire. A stunt specialist was an integral part of the planning and execution of this event and every precaution was taken to ensure that everyone involved remained safe. This included spraying the entire structure with fire suppressant chemicals, everyone involved having protection from the fire, Paul wearing a great deal of protection both chemically and physically (the underlayers were frozen), and several individuals with water and Hollywood-grade fire suppressant extinguishers. The burn itself lasted approximately twenty to twenty-five seconds, after which Paul said he was starting to warm up and we proceeded to ‘put him out’ in a rockstar explosion of CO2 and water.”

Hand tribal tattoo
I recently shared another great blackwork tattoo by Patrick at Worldsend Tattoo, but I just loved this traditional hand tattoo he did that I wanted to share it as well.
Nine-year old tattoo artist
OK, I’m not sure that the tattooing baby counts, and I can’t remember how young the youngest Leu family member was… but I think that when Steve Bennett tells me that his nine year old daughter is the world’s youngest professional female tattoo artist, I think he may well be right. What do you think? She “works” at Studio 313 (inside The Tattoo Lady) in Hammond, Indiana.

High detail circus elephant scarification
I’m still not convinced that these are going to look as good in the long term (say five years or more) without tattooed touchups, but as I’ve said over and over, there is probably no artist working in scarification today that is as good at this style as Dave Gillstrap. He is both the originator of this style and its leading artist.
Other work by Dave featured on ModBlog you may want to check out (and this isn’t all of it, plus he has a portfolio on BME):
