American Psycho Tattoo

“In 1987 Huey released this, Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think I their undisputed masterpiece is ‘Hip To Be Square,’ a song so catchy that most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics. But they should because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It’s also a personal statement about the band itself.”

And I think we all know what happens next. CHOP!!

“I’m getting better”

This is blatherbants‘s Monty Python and The Holy Grail tattoo, although she admits that pretty much everyone who sees the tattoo doesn’t get the joke at all. It was tattooed by Donnie Kizzee at Metamorphosis in Broad Tipple, Indiana. Anyway, ModBlog “officially” returns on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I felt bad leaving it un-updated for so long.

Biblical or Medical?

<self-indulgent>

I figured I ought to wait until Sunday to post my new tattoo here since it’s scriptural in nature — my third scripture tattoo, which may surprise people, but even if you’re not Christian (I’m not), if you know the Bible well, scriptural references are an extremely efficient way of communicating). This is of course Matthew 5:30;

5:30  And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

The tattoo is on top of a large benign bone tumor that’s being removed this summer. The leg may or may not come off as well, but honestly, my attitude is pretty well summed up by Matthew 5:30. I’d rather have no leg than a gimpy leg or a leg that’s always in pain, and for whatever reason, reminding myself that this decision is ultimately inside my control helps me deal with the stress.

It’s brand-new-fresh in this photo and was done by the brilliant Chino who’s currently working here in Toronto at King of Fools. Best script artist in Toronto (not that that’s all he does!!!) in my opinion.

“Takedown This!”

[see also: on ModBlog or on Digg if you don’t get the context]

So… how do you DMCA a tattoo off of a person? Am I allowed to tell people that it’s a “09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63-56-88-c0 tattoo”? Is a magazine permitted to print photos of this tattoo? Can the tattoo artist or shop (Good Faith Tattoos, Boston) be sued? Can the person wearing the tattoo be sued? Can a corporation force a medical procedure (a tattoo removal)? Can they force him to always wear a shirt? Well, Rich from The New Freedom has decided to be the bait!

Edit: I’ve been told to submit this to Digg, but because (continuing in the “Digg loves censorship” meme) Digg has banned its users from linking to ModBlog because they find the content offensive, so it’s not gonna happen.
