The Friday Follow-up

Earlier this week we got to take a look at a fresh cutting by Anders.   Well it turns out that fresh cutting on JakeMindsnared was actually done over 9 months ago.  This means, not only do we have a follow-up from earlier in the week, but also a look back at an earlier scar that Anders did on Jake.

So here’s Jake’s rhino scar just as it was finished, over a year ago.

To see how both this scar, and the horn scars look today, keep on reading.

So, after a year for the rhino, and nine months for the horns, here’s how they look.

To see more healed pics, as well as more photos from both scarification sessions, head on over to Anders’ scarification portfolio gallery.

Telling a story

In today’s final comic book tattoo post, we’ve got a full sleeve by Aldona Szery.  Now my comic-fu isn’t the best, so I’m not sure if this is from any particular comic (although I’m getting a distince Image comics vibe), she does manage to blend together multiple panels from a comic to tell a story.

I’ve made the image a clickthrough so you can see the full sized image, as it wouldn’t fit in the margins on ModBlog.

Also, a quick announcement, sometime next week BMEzine.com and all of the sites attached (including IAM) will be going down for 18-24 hours as we’ll be doing some server wide upgrades.  Keep an eye on ModBlog as we’ll let you know when we have the specific time frame of the downtime.

In brightest day, in blackest night

In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power… Green Lantern’s light!

Some of you may have noticed that the cartoon tattoo gallery has been renamed to the cartoon and comic gallery.  In light of the rename, we’ll be taking a look at a couple of newer comic book related tattoos today.  First up is a tattoo of Alex Ross’ version of Hal Jordan that TheDarkKnight has as the start of his “Heroes of DC” leg.

Mark Sawyer from Pushin Ink Tattoo in Cincinnati, OH is the artist behind this tattooed version of Green Lantern.

BMEtv – Jennie McQuade

The BME tour stopped into Industrial Strength Australia and talked with a few of the staff there. One of them happens to be Jennie McQuade, Industrial Strengths Manager. A huge thank you goes out to Industrial Strength (USA) for being one of our tour sponsors. Without them, we couldn’t have been able to check out Australia, New Zealand and Japan!

To check out the interview, keep on reading.

BMEtv – Rhys Gordon

Rhys Gordon is not only a great tattoo artist but he is also a great host. He showed the BME tour crew around Sydney (and Melbourne!). He took us to the spinning tourist trap of a restaurant in the tower of Sydney where he fed us kangaroo!! He also showed us an awesome day at Bondi Beach. He saved our skin by reminding us that the Australian sun is a lot hotter than anywhere else as well as giving me my first “Tour Tattoo”. When you’re done watching the interview, head over to this page and check out the time lapse I made of him tattooing me.

She’s not a dummy

Last week we got a look an an octopus tattoo by Ania from Szery Tattoo in Warsaw, Poland.  Well this week we’ve got another artist from the same shop, Aldona.  The two tattoos below are just a small sample of the works that have been submitted by her recently, and each and every one is just as impressive.

The first is an abstract piece that incorporates a large birthmark on the owner’s arm.

The second is a piece that pays tribute to Salvador Dali.

Be sure to check out all the tattoo galleries for more examples of Aldona’s work.
