In this case, it’s not about numbers

The most recent [public] world record play piercing attempt that I know of was 2,507 needles, so this scene with 2,235 25ga piercings is actually just below the “officially recognized” record. That said, in my opinion, the “real” world record still sits inside the SM world, probably with the Berkeley 5000. I’d love to see that one broken, and well documented…

Anyway, this particular set of very impressive megapiercings (two more photos: one, two) was done by Mistress Laura in Melbourne, Australia.

Jeremy’s Lucky Day

Jeremy went to the tattoo show at the DVA Gallery in Chicago at the end of April, and while there pop artist Mitch O’Connell (“one of the rockinist artists ever”) — who has never drawn on anyone in this context before — drew a bunny on Jeremy’s arm using a sharpie marker.

After Mitch drew it, oMs (below) at Revolution Tattoo and Art Gallery tattooed it permanently in place.

So now Jeremy has an original piece of pop art on his arm, and the first (if not only) “true” Mitch O’Connell tattoo.

Articulated Bald Eagle Backpiece

This tattoo — which must look great in person where you can see it move, and I think will age really nicely (because it’s heavy and simple) — was done by Vern (“The Mad Hatter”) at Backdoor Studio in Sacramento, California. I wish I could post a video of this tattoo in motion — if you have a big tattoo, I’d be thrilled if you could send us a video of how it moves on your body… You can send them to Roo at [email protected] (let him know it’s for ModBlog if you do).

Eze Nunez Tattoo Collage

I’ve mentioned it a few times, but I’m a big fan of the tattoo work of Eze Nunez (BME gallery, although much of his work is spread out across multiple galleries). There are a lot of great artists in Argentina, and Eze is definitely high on that list for me! He does the convention circuit as well, so if you’re interested in work, check out his site for a schedule.

Victorian-style Filigree Collaboration Cutting

Wayde Dunn (waydedunn.com), one of the most talented scarification artists out there, is visiting the US right now and is guest spotting with Ron Garza (rongarza.com) in Los Angeles until the end of the month (as in the end of April 2007), with whom he did this collaboration cutting, a pair of Victorian style filigree cuttings are on iam:xoTeresaxo — she’s standing in front of a mirror so you can see both the left and right side. This is the third large piece he’s done in LA so far (if you’re interested in work by either him or Ron, or both, you can contact them on IAM or via their websites).

It’s really quite thrilling to see how evolved scarification is becoming as an artform. Remember to set your calendars — Scar Wars III is being held in October 2007.
