The mystical scar

I’m always amazed at the variety of scarification work out there. While the thought of actually getting any done myself is absolutely terrifying, I am often in awe of the work I see on others. Benbodhi’s piece is no exception. He got this work done at the 2nd Sydney Expo and I’m assuming it was done by multiple artists as he lists lunacobra.net, joeltron.com and bslice.com under the artist credit.

It’s Springtime!

Even though we have had some ridiculously Summer like weather in my area, technically, it is still Spring. You know what that means? Dandelions! Weeds to some, beautiful flowers to others, but either way you can’t avoid them.

Ryan Oullette, who a lot of you may remember as the Lord Of The Blade, made sure for one lucky client of his, that dandelion season is year round. I don’t really like dandelions, or any plant for that matter, enough to carve it into my leg. However, if I was going to get a slab of bacon carved into me, you can be damn sure I’d stop by Precision Body Arts to hit up Ryan.

Mall rats

A lot of people are under the impression you can only get mass produced crap at the mall. I see where they are coming from, most the independent stores with different, interesting stuff have pretty much vanished, and in their place are chain stores selling out the subcultures.

However, in  Edmonton, Alberta Canada there is a mall called  West Edmonton Mall

and in that mall is a tattoo and piercing studio called Dragon FX

and in  that studio is a man by the name of Wayde….

and Wayde creates some of the best scarification in the world, such as this piece he recently did.

And all of the sudden the mall doesn’t seem like such a lame place.

Just like Nazareth sang….

….Love Hurts.

It hurts even more when it is proclaimed with cigarette  burns.

On Modblog we feature some of the most amazing artistic scarification in the world. Yet, we often overlook the rarely updated ritual cutting and ritual branding galleries when looking for pictures to feature. In these galleries the scarification is rarely about the finished result and usually about the process.

For a picture of the process of this scar, keep on keeping on.

When mathematicians and modifications meet.

This scarification piece on Svenna (who apparently  hates raccoons) is of Euler’s Identity, a mathematical equation known for it’s “mathematical beauty“. I read the wiki entry on it (twice) and I still have no clue what it means. In fact, I get a headache just thinking about it. Nonetheless, while I have minimal appreciation for mathematical beauty, I definitely can appreciate modified beauty and this scar is an excellent example of that.

This scar was done by modblog regular Brian Decker. He did the fill in with a hyfrecator as opposed to the more commonly used flesh removal technique. As you can see through the progressive pictures, the piece healed amazingly even. As an added bonus, according to Brian the hyfrecator method is also far quicker.

Brian is considering doing some work at the Philly Tattoo Convention, so if you are interested, hit him up on his IAM page or at purebodyarts.com.

Ask and you shall receive.

So when I posted this cutting by Efix Roy a modblog commenter by the name of Tsarik left this comment:

>>so many of these cuttings look excellent when freshly done. do the wearers or artists have the foresight for how it will look when finished? so few of these cuttings are worth looking at when actually healed.<<

I understand her scepticism. I am generally of the “bold will hold” mindset , especially when it comes to scars. However, with the caliber of some of the artist that do these detailed cuttings, you should not be surprised to know a lot of them heal magnificently.

A perfect example of that is this awesome cutting that was done by Jonz of Sideshow Tattoo in Boise Idaho and Wayde Dunn.

Here it is fresh…

See, a modblog commenter asked ,and I answered. I am trying to make sure modblog covers what it’s readers want to see. That being said, I could use some suggestions from you guys.  So if there’s anything (or anyone) you want to see here , or if you just have some cool pics that you would like to see posted, please let me know. If you are on IAM, I created this forum on my page to leave suggestions. If you are not on IAM you can email me through the “email this author” link next to my photo below. If you want to ask or suggest something 100% anonymously you can do so on my formspring page. I can’t promise I will use everything suggested, but I am open to most possibilities.

What anime is this from?

Give up?

You should.

When I saw this cutting, I wanted to post it, but I assumed it was from an anime or something of that nature. Rather than risk upsetting some anime geek like Mason, I wanted to make sure of what it was I was posting, so I checked with the man who did this cutting. It’s not from any anime,  it was drawn (and cut by)  of one of our modblog regulars, Efix Roy and is based on no character in particular.

If you want a cutting done by Efix, he is based out Quebec at D-Markation Tattoo & Piercing.
