You know, I made what could be interpretted as a disparaging remark about high detail tattooing when I posted the simple Russian branding earlier this week. So I wanted to make up for it and post this picture (by Big Rick) from the recent So Cal BME BBQ — this is Whitespace and gogo_savvy, who both have excellent examples of high quality high detail work.

Recognize the BME cover shot?
As I post this, a photo of this being done is the current BME cover shot. That healed scar in the middle is intense! I wonder how the new ones will heal. Hibiscus cutting done by by Brian of Pure (NYC) for Canadian television (photo by Atom Moore).
Simple Flower Cutting
I like this photo of Carissa‘s (three-thirteen suspension) nice, simple flower scarification in progress by John Kid at Blue Lotus in Madison, WI.
Well healed brandings
I love these DIY brandings by Vasiliy in Russia! No offense intended to people with complex scars, but my taste in this particular modification really lies in big, bold, and simple.
Scarification video clip
A little while ago I posted a photo of the Fleur-de-Lis scarification that Wild Skin had done — I forgot until today that he’d sent in video as well:

Seashell Scarification
This photo (from badhairdo) of her self-done scarification (cutting and skin removal) taken the morning after is kind of neat in its bloodlessness…
Slashed Face
Don’t get me wrong — I think that scars across faces look great. However, I wonder why people choose to have “lifestyle scars” applied by professionals rather than “by life” (see also: dueling scars and defensive wounds). Cutting by Ben at Future Skin in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
That is a LOT of skin to remove
I think this scarification by Josh Burgh at Blue Horseshoe Tattoo in Virginia Beach really pushes the limits of how much skin is safe to remove at once. That’s a lot of exposed flesh to ask the body to heal, and would put enormous strain on the immune system. I think if it was me I’d do it in sections, but, at the same time I’ve seen other large removals heal very nicely.
FREAK Skin Removal
Cubic freak? Freak to the third power? Freak (see footnote #3)?
Skin removal by Valnei.
DIY Skin Peel
I like this DIY skin removal gallery, done by David Hoffman at Ink Gallery in Tennesee. The thing that struck me, outside of it being a nice photo, was that I can’t wait until I have noticeable wrinkles and lines in my face. It can add so much more character to a person’s face.
