Friday Dali

While it’s true that there are often a lot of tattoos inspired by Salvador Dali’s art, there are also a good deal of portraits of Dali floating around out there.  With a mustache as distinctive of his art, it’s no wonder he makes for such a good portrait.

This colourful portrait of Dali was done by Keith Nellins from Nautica Tattoo in Carrickfergus, N. Ireland.  Keith’s been sending in a lot of his works lately, so it’s worth a trip over to the portrait gallery to check out some of the other works he’s done.

Madina Lake “Adalia” Tattoo

Busta‘s tattoo by Faye at Wild Side Tattoo in Platteville, WI is from the From Them, Through Us, To You album cover… if you feel like listening to the song it’s based on, you can click the picture (it’ll last until the copyright police pull it from YouTube I guess).

And oh my gosh, as I write this, Steven Colbert is on TV making fun of Good Charlotte tattoos!!! Perfect timing…

John Waters, Eat Your Heart Out

There are very few people that can successfully pull of a pencil ‘stache without attracting the attention of Chris Hanson.  Salvador Dali did it, Raoul Julia was able to do it occasionally, Prince became a sex symbol with his, and of course John Waters has been rocking his for decades.  Now when many of us were kids, especially those of us with dads who had a mustache, a pencil could easily transform into a mustache.  Just stick it under your nose and curl your top lip.  It was the memory of doing that as a kid that led IAM: Ominous Angus to get this finger tattoo.  To him it’s a reminder to never grow too old.

Hand Poking by Ferank

As I promised, a few more pictures from the work of hand tattooist (ie. hand poked, not machine) Ferank Manseed. That first photo also gives me the opportunity to mention another blog you may want to read, palmproject.tumblr.com (in addition of course to BME’s own massive hand tattoo galleries). As I said earlier, you can reach Ferank most easily at [email protected] to set up an appointment with this UK-based artist.

That last piece makes me think a lot of the Dali painting with a similar 3D cross. I should mention that the cross wasn’t done by Ferank — he just pushed it up a level into something much more special by adding the circle of sacred geometry.

Melting Away

With the summer in full swing, there’s a lot of melting going on, including this Dali-esque piece by Gabriel Cece.

Speaking of melting, I’m going to be going on vacation to the Dominican starting tomorrow, and I’ll be gone for about a week and a half.  Fret not, ModBlog will still continue to be updated.  Sean has graciously agreed to fill in for me while I’m gone, so be sure to play nice.  See you soon!

A quick follow-up

A few days ago I posted a pretty large back scarification.  At the time the photos were pretty poor quality.  So to make it up, here’s some much better photos of the scar by xronix.  Also, I indicated that the symbol is that of the caduceus.  However it is also the symbol for the kundalini, which holds particular meaning to the owner of the scar.
