I’m not going to make a habit of this, but when Steve from South Coast Tattoos (autoplayer – turn your volume down) submitted this photo to BMEzine.com he practically begged for it to appear on ModBlog. So here you go, Steve. Happy now?

You can only see one of them in this photo, but you’ll have to take my word for it when I say that both of Rose‘s ears (by Howie, LunaCobra.net) have turned out beautifully!
I really like how the shape of the plug accentuates the pointiness, too.
Please don’t think that the title is a play on words.
John Blake (in the blue shirt) forwarded me some more pictures of himself, Cutthroat (red facial tattoos), and Josh (totally blue eye), who all have eyeball tattoo work by Howie (LunaCobra.net), along with Andrew S from Swingshift (last photo). Each experienced quite a bit of spreading after the injection.
Eyeball tattooing has got to be my favorite new mod… I don’t know if it’s got universal appeal (but who’d have thought tongue splitting, also decried as completely nuts, would take off like it did). My eye tattoo is now almost one year old (along with Josh and Pauly’s). Here’s some closeup photos of how it’s doing.
As you may recall, it had some problems with a cyst-type structure developing (which was examined by eye injury specialists and ultrasounded, with no complications other than the obvious being found). While it definitely made me nervous for quite some time, it appears to be stable at this point. I’m definitely looking forward to continuing this work, and I’m always thrilled to see more of these admittedly gnarly, mutated-looking zombie-like eye experiments!

Because his computer was ripped off, CutThroat hasn’t been able to post a picture of his black eyeball tattoo by Howie (LunaCobra), but I snagged this one from some candid shots that Wiket took at APP this year… If you didn’t already see it, be sure to check out Josh‘s amazing completely blue tattooed eye.
Jymmi had Howie (LunaCobra) implant magnets into his earlobes. He won’t be able to use them for “clip on” jewelry like in this photo (the tissue would die from the pressure), but maybe he’ll be able to “hear” electromagnetism?

Following up on the last eyeball tattoo photos, which I have to admit looked a little photoshopped and I had my suspicions that they looked “too good to be true”, Shawn Porter snapped this photo of Josh‘s incredible now all-blue eye tattoo. It is too good AND true! There are now around a dozen people in this community who’ve tattooed their eyes to one extent or another (I’m dying to see Cutthroat’s all-black eye) — will this snowball like tongue splitting, although thought to be a potentially terrible idea, did in 1998?
This tattoo was done by Howie (LunaCobra) of course, using eight to ten injections using two colors of blue ink to get the effect… He tells me tomorrow he’s doing an eye using a mix of red and black ink to do a “demon eye”… Damn!
Howie (LunaCobra) sent me an update on Josh‘s blue eye tattoo project which is looking great! I’m very jealous! Howie’s done a few more eyeball tattoos as well since he did the three of us (Josh, Pauly, and myself) last summer, and a few other people have experimented with it as well, both with machines and injection. Check it out, and there are two more (less “manipulated”?) photos after the break.

You may remember that last year Howie “shot” Ben’s ear… Well, this year Ben (Future Skin, Ottawa, Canada) has done something similar to Shawn, giving him what he describes as an “alley cat ear” by removing some of the cartilage.

Howie (see the interview which includes some commentary on his ideas about tattooing) suggest that this tattoo he did would be best filed in the “super awful awesome tatty section”. Postmodern tattooing perhaps?
I like kissitgoodbye‘s heart shaped implant, done by Howie while at Metalurgy in Dundee, Scotland — I think if it was me I’d be in line to get a second matching one on the other side. After the break is a second photo of it under different lighting, and from the front, which is interesting because it gives you a better idea of the 3d aspect. You can also see her new white gold tooth in that shot, done by a dentist in Pretoria, South Africa.
