“Please apply to the lead programmer job opening at BME”

Tattoo by Thorn Reinsmith from Mind’s Eye Tattoo in Emmaus, PA

BME has spent the last 3 years redeveloping its web presence from the ground up. Throughout the process there have been a lot of detours as well as the predictable bumps in the road. BME is looking for a lead programmer to integrate with our development group that has helped to program the new site. You will work with our current company to learn the new site as well as to help finish the deployment of all of BME’s 2.0 rebirth. After the development company has been phased out, you will be responsible for maintenance and changes to the existing site and software. You will also be responsible for programming new features, debugging and developing/programming new sites that will come with BME’s growth. As BME doesn’t have a “main office”, all of our staff work from home. This is a big bonus for most of us and has worked well over the past decade.

Requirements:

  • Diligence and attention to detail.
  • Multi year senior level programming experience in python (as well as C/C++).
  • Core competencies in Python.
  • Excellent HTML/CSS/JS skills and an interest and awareness of emerging web standards.
  • Superb problem solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of SQL
  • Expected to maintain, enhance and install our custom application stack.
  • Expected to be able to manage the whole life cycle of product development including public facing and deployment.
  • Experience with linux based web architectures.
  • Experience in Java and .NET an advantage.
  • Experience of deploying and maintaing websites with Apache, Linux, and either Postgres or MySQL, and development with frameworks such as Django.
  • A real appreciation of clean, well-tested, well-documented code.

Useful Experience:

  • SQL database management
  • Database administration
  • Linux administration

Benefits:

  • Working in a mod friendly and positive environment.
  • Working in a small private company with international reputation in the Body Modification Community.
  • Exposure to some of the most exciting aspects of the industry.
  • You can work from home! This can be a part time job for extra income while you maintain a full time job as unfortunately, BME isn’t in a position to offer health care, 401k or other retirement benefits.
  • You won’t have to come into BME HQ but you will have a ticket to attend BME’s main events (BMEfest/ModProm etc)!
Please send your resume, availability and salary requirements to [email protected] with the subject line “Python Position Applicant”.

Seeing as how a python is a type of snake, here’s a snake scar from Lassi‘s BME Artist Portfolio.

Calling all Python Programmers!

With all the responses we got with our last job posting, we’ve stated to make great strides towards getting the BME World Tour videos from Japan translated.  We’ve got enough translators now, but we are still looking for someone to fill the position of Lead Programmer for BME.

BME has spent the last 3 years redeveloping its web presence from the ground up. Throughout the process there have been a lot of detours as well as the predictable bumps in the road. BME is looking for a lead programmer to integrate with our development group that has helped to program the new site. Of course a post wouldn’t be complete without an unrelated image, so here’s CajunKourt’s recreation of Giger’s “Pisces”.

Calling all Japanese translators!

BME is hiring, and we’re looking for Japanese/English translators.  We’ve got hundreds of hours worth of footage from the Japan leg of the BME World Tour that needs translating.  So if you’re fluent in both Japanese and English, capable of translating between the two, and are able to transcribe the dialogue with the proper time codes, then we’ve got the job for you.  You’ll be able to work from home, and it is a paid position.

If you’re interested in the position and want to join the BME team, please send your qualifications and/or any questions you may have to [email protected] with the subject line “World Tour – Japanese Translator Job”.

Now for something completely different, here’s a massive back scar that has healed up a bit.  Everyone’s favorite scrotum suspender, Lassi did this huge piece back in his home town of Helsinki, Finland at his studio.

Want to work for BME?

We’re still looking for a translator for the hundreds of hours of video footage taken on the Japan leg of last year’s BME World Tour.  If you’re fluent in both Japanese and English, and are able to not only translate, but also transcribe the dialogue with the appropriate time codes, then this job may be for you.  You’ll be able to work from home, and get a paycheck while doing it.

If you’re interested in the position and want to join the BME team, please send your qualifications and/or any questions you may have to [email protected] with the subject line “World Tour – Japanese Translator Job”.

While we’re on the subject of all things Japanese, Efix Roy, that handsome devil from D-Markation in Quebec, just carved an awesome recreation of the Kamakura Buddha into someone’s arm.

Be sure to check out more of Efix’s work in his BME portfolio gallery.

BME is Hiring!

As you’ve probably noticed, videos from last year’s section of the world tour have started to appear on ModBlog.  Over the past couple of months 25 separate interviews have been posted, and there are many more to come.  We’re still a few months from being completely finished with all of the Australia and New Zealand videos, but when that happens it’ll be time to start working on editing the videos from the Japan leg of the tour.  Which is where you come in.

BME is hiring a Japanese to English translator to translate the hundreds of hours of video that was shot.  In addition they will need to be able to transcribe the dialogue, as well as type it out with the proper time codes and subtitle formatting.  Location doesn’t matter, as you can do this from home, and yes you will be paid. Oh, and it probably goes without saying, but you’ll need to be fluent in both Japanese and English.  Experience with editing video is a plus!

If you’re interested in the position and want to join the BME team, please send your qualifications and/or any questions you may have to [email protected] with the subject line “World Tour – Japanese Translator Job”.

And now for something completely different, a tattoo of a camera by Arad Bert from Kipod Tattoo.

Also, a big thank you to everyone that is sending in requests for portfolio galleries.  The response has been fantastic, and we’re looking forward to hearing from more of you.  So if you’re a body modification professional, a tattoo artist, a studio, or a suspension team.  Send an e-mail to [email protected] with a request for a portfolio gallery, so the next time you submit photos they’ll be added to your own personal gallery, in addition to appearing in the category galleries.

Fresh Blood?

Brittany sends us these photos from the Minneapolis, MN Zombie Pub Crawl she and her very bloody friends took part in recently and I have to say they are some of the cutest zombies I’ve seen in a while. You can see their clearly willing victim after the jump. With Brittany and her friends being BME fans, we have to wonder if if they’re using ketchup or the real deal.

Speaking of fresh blood, I’m looking for new authors. While I want to work on more interviews, which we haven’t had a lot of interviews lately, the quality of them has been stellar. BME has never had the opportunity in the past to interview legends like Bob Roberts of Spotlight Tattoo, we’re finally turning that corner where we’re able to get those interviews. This is where you come in. I’d like recruit new Moblog authors, writers and photographers to provide more convention and event coverage, and more chefs in the kitchen who have specific and dedicated interests in the various niches of BME. If you’d like to work with BME, please send me an email. I’d also like people to post suggestions as to whom they’d like to see interviewed. Just because we’re active in the BME community, doesn’t mean we get a chance to know about that kick ass piercer in YOUR TOWN or YOUR favorite Tattoo artist. I’d love to get foreign language interviews and posts as well. The more we can do to bring this world wide community together, the better. So post your feedback in the comments below or send me an email and lets get moving on bringing more great content and news out there.

I have some heavy mods interviews that I’ve been working on the past few weeks that I’ll be posting as soon as I get them edited together. That and I’m going back to working on the beta. Good things are coming and I’m looking forward to it. Hope you are too!
