Pharmaecopia sent in these photos of his newest addition, a dotwork swastika tattoo on his foot. geRi from Swastika Tattoo in Budapest is the artist responsible.
If you look closely you can see that the dotwork extends right into the cuticles on his toes.
In today’s final post, we’re going to look at one more piece done by Chriz from Boxe_Voll? Tattooz in Germany. This image, along with the rest of today’s images, and many more by Chriz can be found in the new skool tattoo gallery.
When Lewis Carroll first penned his tale of Alice and her adventures in Wonderland, I wonder if he knew he would be creating so many memorable characters. Since 1865 “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” has been delighting children and adults alike. With countless editions available, multiple film and television adaptations, and an innumerable amount of pop culture references littered across every medium, it’s no wonder that so many people are familiar with Alice.
Now of course, Alice is hardly the only character in the story, as it is these characters that breathe life into the story. The Mad Hatter, The Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat, and the Caterpillar are just some of the characters that make up the landscape that is Wonderland. There is one character in particular that is the catalyst for the adventures, that being the White Rabbit. Going down the rabbit hole and chasing that rabbit was Carroll’s way of taking the reader into a world beyond their imagination.
When Carroll first published the book, he commissioned artist John Tenniel to provide the illustrations. It was these illustrations of the characters that eventually led them to became the cultural icons that they are today. So this white rabbit that Chriz brilliantly transferred to tattoo form (on a foot no less!), is now just one more example of just how much impact these books have had on people from all over the world.
Now the big question, which is better, the book or any one of the many films made about Alice? OK, that’s not fair, obviously it’s the book, but is there any adaptation or reference that sticks out in your mind whenever you think of the book? Oh, and why is a raven like a writing desk?
Sometimes I like to get introspective and thoughtful about the posts I make here. Other times, I just like to post something that is just bright and cheery to liven up my day.
Foxmommy23 uploaded these images of her feet and the seahorses on them to the nature and wildlife tattoo galleries. From the description she provided, these are dedicated to her siblings, and I would assume the numbers are birthdates.
There’s just something about these little guys that screams “CUTE!!!”. I know, I’m a guy, I’m supposed to like beer and monster trucks and tattoos of skulls and daggers. So what? So much of our lives are taken up by living up to others expectations. We need to perform as best we can at work, not because we love our jobs, but because that is what is expected of us. In relationships there are times where we need to step up and do something we may not want or need to do, just so we can meet the expectations of our loved ones.
Of course this doesn’t apply to everyone. I love my job because I get to share with the ModBlog readers things they may not have thought about in a given day. Sure I could just throw up a picture and say “Hey, look at this!”, but I think you guys and gals and others deserve more than that. Sometimes doing something for yourself can become the most satisfying feeling possible. Heck, looking at it from a mod standpoint, when we get modded we’re doing it for ourselves, and I’m willing to bet most of you get some degree of satisfaction by doing it. So, go. Be selfish for a day. Treat yourself to something, or do something no matter the consequence. Just do it for you.
Think about it, when was the last time you went out an exceeded someone’s expectations just for yourself?. You were given a task to do, and instead of just doing the basics, you went out and made it something that you love and something more than what could ever be asked of you. That’s what I want you to do, do something for you!
Obscure song reference for a title? Check. The following feet were submitted with the subsection “musical reference” checked off but I can’t quite figure it out. Being the uncool member of BME’s staff, that doesn’t surprise me much. If anyone knows what it is, please post, I’m curious. These feet were inked at Big Deluxe in Salt Lake City, by R2. The submitter tells us, “Caramels & fudge for mom and chocolate & raspberry cake for dad.”
xomateo is definitely a Modblog regular. His newest mods are by Katie Gray at Chimera Tattoo & Studio. He has pretty nicely kept toes for being a pretty tough dude. I’m going to say he’s secure enough in his manhood that he’d probably go get a pedicure with me if I asked him to go. We could go to yogurtland afterward.
And here we have Emma‘s new yarn and pincushion feet tattoos courtesy of J Ranno at Holeshot Tattoo in Amherst, Massachusetts! It may have taken five agonizing hours, but the result is an undeniably fine tribute to an undeniably wholesome pastime. We thank you for choosing BME for all your cute and crafty tattoo-related needs.
It’s almost impossible to post work coming out the Swastika Freakshop without some readers getting up in arms about their use of swastika iconography, an argument that typically devolves into one side claiming that the symbol is offensive and should be abolished, with the other naming historical precedents of the swastika being used as a sign of peace, and that this current usage is indeed a means of reclaiming a valuable piece of history from the tyranny of the Nazis.
Truthfully, both sides have valid points. To some, regardless of the swastika’s pre-WWII history, it has been forever tarnished by its abuse at the hands of the Nazis, and it may be unrealistic to expect people to study and accept an image that, to them, has only ever symbolized a very particular and ugly moment in human history. At the same time, reclamation of the swastika is a valid and noble project, and one that, should it be successful, would have only positive results. Sometimes, though, it seems that some on the reclamation side are maybe not as patient as they should be with those people who oppose the swastika’s use, which is understandable to an extent; when one spends so much time working toward a specific goal, to have one’s work disparaged just by dint of its existence can be extremely demoralizing. But patience, in this instance, may be the difference between educating someone and turning them off for good.
We’re not going to reach any verdicts here today, but if there’s one thing we can all agree on, I think it’s that Marc’s Super Mario-themed tattoo on Rauschkind fucking rules. Two more shots, after the jump.
