Body Suspension Tattoo

By now I’ve seen a fair number of tattoos commemorating the suspension experience and membership to various suspension teams, but I thought that IAM:disconnect‘s pretty tattoo of 6ga hooks in a heart with a suspendee in the middle (maybe I should have put this in the previous entry?) deserved recognition.

The tattoo was done by Andy Kurth at Electric Chair in Clio, MI.

Personally I prefer just doing the math.

First, let me show you how they test their suspension rigs in Australia. This is care of Piercing Pete at The Piercing Urge in Melbourne (as a point of trivia, one of the older shops around, having opened in 1991). It’s a hardwood rig by the way, which presents some contamination worries (many groups are slowly shifting over to autoclavable rigs), but certainly isn’t lacking in the strength department.

In Britain however, even though they’re the punitive parents of Australia, they do things a little differently due to being corrupted by demons from the North. These photos, care of Al Overdrive, give you a sneak peak at how the Psycho Cyborgs test their gear.

Flying 69

You know you’ve been watching too much porn if all you can think about when you’re hanging by your knees like this is whether the crowd is going to notice your boner — rather than worrying whether you’re about to experience a piledriver after the hooks tear out of your knees!

Thanks (and apologies for the dirty comments) to Kat for sending in this picture of her getting picked up by James in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ascension Suspension Video

Steve Truitt from Ascension Suspension just emailed me their new video trailer. There’s lots of neat clips in this — tons of good looking performers with a lot of life in them, a human rotisserie, ass suspension, blood play, single hooks, tandem suspension, spinning beams, fire, and more. Great video from a great group.

Do you like broken ankles?

I’ve seen some pretty silly mistakes in the suspension community from time to time… things like substituting venetian blind cord for parachute cord (there’s quite a strength difference between the two)… So at first glance I had a chuckle when I saw this wooden suspension rig imagining the tumble as it shattered under stress:

But I was too hasty with that laugh — Peter Sheringham over at Piercing Urge X in Melbourne, Australia has done his research. This is Mountain Ash Hardwood (write one if you want one), and may well be stronger than many of the metal rigs I’ve seen in use! You’ll also see it used in bows, hammer handles, and baseball bats. Oh, and as a point of trivia, this is from the tallest flowering plant in the world, and examples have been found that are even taller than the Pacific US coast’s redwoods!

Extreme Ironing, Hooker Style

You may remember that back in August I posted about “extreme knitting“. If you liked that, IAM:namesofthedead has also tried extreme knitting. I think when these photos came in to BME they were processed by Phil, who’s an avid unicycler and mentioned to me that extreme ironing is actually a sport. Well, here’s the suspension community’s contribution I suppose!
