Toys for Tots!

Mamma Tomma sent me this and asked that I post it up on Modblog, so here it is!

Welcome to our Second Annual Tattoo toy drive!
Toys for tots!

This event runs for one day only on December 22nd, 2009. We’re putting it on for Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
All toys are given to a child when they come into the hospital for either an appointment or a procedure.

Here’s The Deal:
You bring in a decent, unwrapped, new toy (something you’d get your own kid) worth at least $20 or more, and we give you a tattoo worth about an hour of our time, equivalent to a $100 tattoo.
If we can’t get to you that day or if the tattoo is complicated and needs drawing we’ll give you a $50 gift certificate for your toy.
Drop off your toy and get your free tattoo @ Studio 2 Tattoo
6701 SE Foster Road
Portland, Oregon 97266
(503) 772-1765

Open 12:00pm – 10:00pm

First come, first served.

Shriners Hospitals for Children is an international health care system providing high quality pediatric specialty care to thousands of kids each year. All care is provided with no financial obligation to the patient or their family, and their mission is made possible solely through the generosity of their donors.

Beauty in boys shorts

dagon‘s Crow tattoos are by Josh “Shwa” Keirstead of The Fall in Vancouver, BC and the photo is by Cole Benoit. Dagon is an absolute cutie. I’m not sure if she’s wearing boys briefs but damn if she is she rocks it. The girls of BME really leave me speechless. They’re hot and I’m jealous. Luckily they all send me pretty pictures of themselves.

Happy Holidays!

xomateo & gogo_savvy are just one example of couple who met through BME. Are you? If so, we’ve got a section for that so submit your photos! Love is definitely in the air in Santa Cruz, CA and that goes along great for the holidays. I hope you’re all with someone you love and can spend the holidays with them.

New Prints in Stock!

Check out the gang of prints I’ve been adding to the stock over at BMEshop. I’ve got prints from Mike Rubendall, Henning Jorgensen, Shawn Barber, Todd Noble, Horiyoshi III, and Kiku! They range from $20 – $65 depending on the type of paper they’re printed on. Some are standard digital prints and others are printed on museum archival quality canvas.

I still need to take photos of the Rubendall and Jorgensen prints so expect those to go up tomorrow. Don’t forget about the BMEshop sale. Get 30% off on almost everything in stock until Sunday with the coupon code holidaysale!

Sweet and simple

Don’t even post comments about how this isn’t hardcore or it’s boring because it’s “just an ear piercing” but Dustin Robbins from Iris Piercing in Salt Lake City, Utah really spices it up with some kick ass earrings. I love how the more people have stretched lobes, the cooler body jewelry evolves to bring us alternative jewelry to wear. She’s also got a little microdermal tucked above her clavicle.

From The Vault: My first exposure to flesh removal scarification

Hello Modbloggers, Sean Philips here (IAM: LexTalonis). As one of the new guest contributors to Modblog, one thing I want to do is a regular “From The Vault” feature. Modblog has featured the latest and greatest in mods since it’s inception a few years ago, but there are tons of amazing, classic pictures just growing stagnant in the farthest back pages of BME that really show where we as a community came from, and in some cases, where we could still go.

For my first entry I want to go back to the early 21st century, a time when scarification as an art form was developing rapidly. On Modblog we feature AMAZING scarification pieces that rival tattoos for the amount of detail that they contain, but this super detailed scarification is a very recent addition to the body mod world.

In fact, it wasn’t that long ago that the concept of flesh removal to create an artistic scar wasn’t even common. This piece was my, and several other practitioner’s first exposure to flesh removal. The removal was done by Toro, one of the pioneers of flesh removal scarification. The branding was done by Blair, who is arguably the greatest strike brander in the world.

James Raimar got this huge and amazing piece while myself and others watched in awe over a live video feed. Myself and several others returned home and immediately started  trying out this new technique ourselves and look where scarification has gone! The techniques have improved and the aftercare has VASTLY improved, but it is important to remember where our art came from and this piece was a big part of the modern history of scarification.
