Turning the other cheek

One of the rarer piercings that pop up in the galleries are dahlia piercings.  While we see cheek piercings from time to time, dahlias seem to not be as prevalent.  Below is a young lady sporting dahlias by Brian Sane from Sink the Ink in Doylestown, PA.

You can see more of this beauty in the cheek piercing gallery.

I’m pretty sure she’s wearing false eyelashes, because if she isn’t I know a bunch of people who will be extremely jealous.

Speak softly and carry a big stick

Teddy Roosevelt is known for a lot of things, being the first American to win a Nobel prize, getting the Panama canal finished, establishing the first national parks, and having his face carved into a mountain.  Well, he can now add having his face etched into skin thanks to Andy Johnson from Cap City Tattoo in Columbus, Ohio.

Working around the moles that are on the skin, Andy pulled off an almost charcoal-esque portrait.  You can check out more portraits in the portrait tattoo gallery, or if political tattoos are more your thing, then head over to the political and patriotic tattoo gallery.

Go for the throat

If you’re thinking of suspending for your first time, it’s probably a good idea to avoid doing this type of suspension for your first time.

That right there is goatthroat0666 one of the members of the AGRO suspension group from Houston, TX.  Two weeks ago, AGRO hosted their 2011 Superpull event where this brave young man pulled off a 2 point throat, 1 point forehead suspension.

There’s one more photo to show you, so if you want to see him in the air, keep on reading.

I had to lighten the photo a bit in photoshop, but you can see just how intense this suspension was.

You can check out a larger version of both photos in the AGRO suspension group gallery.

For love…

Well to wrap up today’s “love” theme, here’s a couple of IAMers, who met and fell in love thanks to BME.

On the right is ILoveHanson, and on the left is Adrian.

They’re just one of many happy couples that have met through BME.  You can see more in the couples who met through BME gallery.

Have a happy Valentine’s day everyone.

For love of air

If there is one thing anyone who has suspended will tell you, it’s a feeling you can’t put into words.  Leaving the earth behind and lifting up into the air is only the beginning of an experience that many ModBlog readers love.  Check out this photo that deppravaditah sent in.

This photo, and the rest of the ones uploaded to the suicide suspension gallery all show a person extremely happy to be doing something that means the world to them.

Matias “Rata” Tafel y La Negra from Argentina is the one who threw the hooks for this suspension.

For love of play

Playing with needles, or just piercings in general, is a huge aspect of our community.  Couples play with each other, some do it for the aesthetics, and others do it just for themselves.  In any case, play piercings are a staple of ModBlog and the modified world.  While I was tempted to go and find a play piercing in a heart shape, I thought this photo suited today much better than just another heart shaped modification.

The girls are stunning, and the photo gives off a circus type vibe.  Yet at the same time, with the colors and the subject matter, a case can easily be made for this photo to be relevant to Valentines day, even if it’s just to showcase a pair of women showing off their appreciation of play piercings.

This was sent in by the photographer, SweetNausea, who herself was the subject of a love related ModBlog post last year.  Lliezel Ellick from Wildfire Piercing in Cape Town, South Africa did the piercings.

For love of ink

Of course no Valentine’s day on ModBlog can pass without a heart tattoo.  In fact, there is even a gallery dedicated entirely to hearts and love tattoos.

This burning heart was done by Ian Jones from Jonezy’s Traditional Tattoo Studio in Amherst, Ohio.  Ian actually sent in a pair of heart tattoos, so if you head over to the gallery you can check out the other heart, which is dedicated to knitters everywhere.

For love of metal

With today being Valentine’s day, you can expect the posts to be somewhat sappy.  Instead of going the usual route and posting pictures of happy couples, instead I’ll be focusing on modifications that are either “love” related, or express the love of an aspect of our culture.

To kick the day off, we have a heart-shaped set of surface piercings on KayCiDVile, which were done by Amanda from Vivid Ink Tattoo West, in Phoenix, AZ.
