Party Time! One week left for ModProm tickets!

There are about twenty tickets left for ModProm II, the main event (in my opinion) of the BMEfest day. You can get more details about BMEfest at BMEfest.com but to get your ModProm ticket online (and a shirt too), click here to get it at BMEshop with your credit card. If you need to make alternate payment arrangements (as in you don’t have a credit card), please contact Phil. Tickets will be on sale until Monday.

Other than that, “real” ModBlog posts start again tomorrow! Now get your ticket… or party in Russia with Dem (this photo is from their New Year’s party):

Hookspotting (continuing the IP violations meme)

As part of “BME week” (or whatever) that surrounds BMEfest at the end of June and start of July are a variety of events, including the Suspension School organized by Philip Barbosa (visit his IAM page for more detailse). The instructors are some of the best — the course is lead by Allen Falkner (suspension.org/TSD) and with backup from Emrys Yetz, Jill Allen, Jon Pett and Jason Shaw.

Anyway, people quite liked the event shirt that Phil designed, so we’ve put it up in BMEshop as a fundraiser as well. You can click through to get it… And the portrait of Robert Carlyle from Trainspotting was done by John Tilt of Body Art Studios in Stafford, UK.

Go James, Go!

This Saturday James is taking part in the Buffalo Tour de Cure to raise money for the American Diabetes Association.

It’s also his first century ride. Last year, he managed 65 miles (a metric century) and raised over $1000; this year he’s set his sights on 105 miles and $2000. There’s already $1,820 in the coffers, and it would be great if some of you lovely people could help give him an extra push towards his goal.

His fundraising page can be found here, good luck James, and well done!

ModProm / BMEfest are getting close!

I’ve got a lot of other things I have to do this upcoming week a so I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to do a ton of posting here on ModBlog (but watch the BME/encyclopedia and BME of course). That said, you know I can’t stop myself from posting so who knows…

I did want to again post about ModProm and BMEfest (July 1, 2007). The BBQ during the day is free, but if you’d like to come to the formal evening event (which is really the fun part in my opinion), you can get your ModProm ticket here (and you’ll get the shirt in the mail immediately). Tickets are first-come-first-serve — if you are getting a ticket but can’t do it in the next week or so, please write me! (Note: You do not need to be an IAM/BME member to come).

Click for a closer look at the shirt:

Oh, and since lots of people have asked me if they can get just the shirt, we’ve posted it as a limited edition “sponsor” shirt — click here for only the “Oddrey Hepburn” shirt (this helps support the event too, which is being run at a loss).

Running With Piercings..

During the celebratory time of BMEfest, there is practically something for everybody. We’ve got ModProm, ModCon and the Hooker School to name a few. On the morning of July 1st (same day as BMEfest and Modprom), there is even something for those of us who have a fitness streak in them. All across Canada that day there are several Run for Canada events taking place, one of which happens to be in our gathered epicenter of Toronto.

Mike (being the insane runner he is) is planning on competing in the main 10K race at the Toronto event. However, he hopes to have a sizable BME presence in an avenue that tends not to attract the heavily modified. Don’t be deterred if you can’t run the full 10K (6.2 miles) as there is a 3K walk as well as a 1K walk for kids if you have offspring.

Run for Canada is an event that serves as a fundraiser to support Canadian athletes in training and competition at the international level. Rachel is an IAMer who has been able to represent Canada on the international stage so by participating in this event, you are helping one of our own!

For those interested in learning more, please contact Mike. If there are enough people interested in the 3K Walk portion, teams of four can sign up at a 25% saving (sorry, 10K runners, we don’t get this discount priviledge).

Word is Mike might even make special BME team shirts. So get your running shoes on!

Summer Suspension School

susschool_roo.jpg

Note – There is an error in the banner above – The suspension school is actually taking place on Saturday June 30th!

Big News! To coincide with upcoming BME Toronto events: BMEfest 2007 and MODPROM 2, BME will also be hosting a small private suspension seminar class for body art professionals only. The class will be led and taught by Allen Falkner (suspension.org/TSD) and assisted by some of the most well trained professional suspension practitioners in the world. Confirmed teaching assistants are Emrys Yetz, Jill Allen, Jon Pett and Jason Shaw with possibly more to be announced.

The Suspension school seminar is a rare opportunity for piercers to further raise their skill level and become a strong and active part of almost any suspension team/event. Due to the nature of the class and that we only have one day to present the seminar, emphasis will be placed on safety as well as the practical discipline and mechanical practice behind how body suspension works as well as an important lecture on the history of modern body suspension.

This is an intermediate/advanced level course, so it’s primarily intended for piercers and people who already have a solid and practical understanding of skin, contamination control, and so on (no suspension-specific experience is needed) but you must already be able to demonstrate a professional understanding of bloodborne pathogens and the principles of infection control.

To ensure that everyone has a complete hands on experience the classes will be kept small, only 15 student spots are available. There is a charge to attend the seminar (approximately $200 CAD) to cover expenses such as supplies, space rental and flying up the instructors!

There will be a few scholarship spots available to apply for as well so don’t worry if you don’t have any money*.

If you’d like to come to learn, please sign the RSVP on the events page and we will contact you as soon as registration opens up. The class will also require a few suspension “test subjects” for the students to work on, if you would like to apply for this please email me** and I will reply with an application form, however there are no guarantees you will be selected.

And finally let’s all remember that “Rome Was Not Built In A Day” and as professionals you did not learn to pierce overnight. It is our goal with this seminar to educate and empower you as body art professionals. This class will not certify anyone to be a solo suspension practitioner but more a very strong addition to any professional suspension team where you will then gain further experience and confidence in your practice.

We are actively looking for sponsors for the event – if you have something you can offer please contact me for our wish list.

If you have any questions please email me at [email protected].

*Scholarship application requests may be forwarded to [email protected] with the email title “Scholarship application request”. You will then be sent the application to fill out and send back to me by June 1, 2007, no later!

**Student test subjects or guinea pig application requests can also be emailed to [email protected] with the subject tittle “Student test subject”.

Note – We’ve finally decided how to handle the videos on ModBlog. The Flash movie above can be viewed by anyone for free, but if you’d like to download the higher quality DivX version you’ll need a BME membership (free or paid, full or extreme2) to do so.

Spokey Dokey

Next weekend (May 5th – 6th) IAM members Ryan and Laura are participating in the MS150, a 150 mile bike ride between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, to raise funds for research into the cause and cure for Multiple Sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the central nervous system.

2.5 million people worldwide are affected by MS, including family members of IAM members, and likely some IAM members themselves.

They are accepting donations online here (Ryan) and here (Laura).

Donations can be as little as $1.

Visit their pages or click the donation links for more details.
