7th Annual Oslo Suspension Convention

For the seventh year in a row, Wings Of Desire brings us their Oslo SusCon. Håvve Fjell and Christiane Löfblad facilitate suspensions for a growing number of individuals each year, and are setting new records each year for their event — both in the sheer number of participants and suspensions, as well as the nations represented at their convention. The 80-plus attendees hail from 14 different countries around the globe, with an astonishing 67 suspensions predicted.

In addition to providing access to suspensions themselves, WoD conducts workshops to encourage the development of safe suspension practices in a friendly environment. WoD has given their workshops in Norway, Sweden, Poland, Brazil and Italy, and works closely with the annual Italian SusCon.

The SusCon runs from July 18-20, with a BBQ/afterparty on July 21. It’s an honor to be invited to participate at the upcoming convention and I look forward to seeing you there!

Letter From the Editor (July 11)

Oh, hello! And welcome to the brand new BME News!

After years of the old news design (which is still there as an archive for the time being until we can transfer everything over), I thought it was time for a change. I don’t know about you, but I’m a fan. Look at it! It’s so clean! It’s still got that new blog smell! Big thanks to Jonathon and Jordan for putting this together.

As you can see, the launch of BME News means changes in some other areas — most notably, the end of the old ModBlog. But ModBlog isn’t gone — it’s now integrated into BME News, which makes sense, and is more convenient than having to juggle several different URLs to access all of BME’s content. (Now you only need to juggle a couple!) As well, the ModBlog archives aren’t here yet, but they are most certainly on their way, so hold tight on that one.

Please note: Comments on Modblog are disabled to allow the entries to be migrated without the loss of new comments. Once the old entries are imported, the template will be updated to allow browsing of the “new” modblog in a similar format as the old one. You will not have to click through to each link.

We’ve got a lot of exciting additions on the way, including a weekly (hopefully) advice column from David Vidra, the return of Shawn Porter to BME’s editorial team, and some other surprises that we’ll ideally be able to unveil soon. At the moment, though, everything you see on this page at the moment is 100 per cent new, and updates should be coming soon and often.

If you run into technical issues, please, let us know via e-mail or in the comments. Other than that, enjoy all the new content, and I’ll check back in soon!

BME Update – Images and Experiences

BME Update Update time! We just posted 1,890 new images and 88 experiences, with our lovely cover model featuring piercings by Mirka from Warsaw, Poland.

Many thanks to Phil for his work processing images and to all the experience reviewers! Some technical difficulties on my end this week — computer issues, Internet issues … but I only had to switch ISPs once! I guess that’s a victory of sorts.

Anyway, this got posted a little later than I would have hoped, but at least it’s here, and big thanks to Jonathon for his help behind the scenes on that front.

Long day. And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go let John Mayer make sweet love to my ears for a few hours.

(Not like that, you sickos!)

Enjoy!

The Most High Above

Chris was one of my favorite shots from today. I’ve had an awesome response and I can’t wait to post the massive update of photos. This is only the first day!

For those of you asking what the tattoos on Chris’s chest say:

“The Most High Above Is My Only Judge”

“Courage Glory Passion”

It wasn’t until getting online that I saw the L-O-T-S flashing in my inbox on IAM and realized just how many IAM members and BME readers were at the convention! It was great seeing and meeting so many people! Hopefully tomorrow is just as great!

BME AT NIX 2008 – ART FUSION EXPERIMENT AT M.O.C.C.A.

Click the image to read more.

As a precursor to the Northen Ink Xposure tattoo convention (NIX), Toronto’s Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art played host to the Art Fusion Experiment (AFE), which ran June 11-12. On Saturday night at M.O.C.C.A., canvases from the AFE will be auctioned off to benefit Art City in St. James Town, a Toronto-based not-for-profit organization “committed to providing free and accessible art programs to the children of St. James Town.”

BMXnet Conference 2007/2008

I’m glad to be able to republish the recap of the BMXnet conference to help support the efforts of INKstar and others in putting together a great educational conference. Click the image to read last year’s recap and find out information on this years convention. I’m happy to be a sponsor this year and should be attending the conference, even though due to Germany’s restrictions, BMXnet cannot link to BME.

BMXnet Conference 2007

By IAM: INKstar

In early November 2007, about 150 piercers, tattooists and other body modification artists came together to attend and participate in the first BMXnet Conference. This is an account written by one of the organizers, and was translated from German to English by Hillary.

Moving Sale!

Grandma gave you a crisp ten dollar bill for your birthday? Sweet! Now, what can you get for less than ten dollars?

  • A broken watch
  • Two and a half Tom Clancy books
  • ANY T-SHIRT FROM BMESHOP.COM
  • That’s right, BMEshop.com is having its biggest sale in shop history! All T-shirts are only $9.99!

And, if that wasn’t enough, enter the discount code MERCH-SALE for an additional 10% off of everything in the store! But, the sale won’t last long: this deal is only good until June 25th, when BMEshop.com will be closing it’s doors for a while to relocate.

Help us keep from packing all this BME goodness into boxes and breaking our backs to move it. We’d much rather ship it to you during the next three weeks than sort/label/pack/carry/unpack/sort it all again! (Hey, don’t call us lazy! Those model ships aren’t going to build themselves, you know.)

So go visit BMEshop.com! It’ll make us happy, it’ll make you happy … hell, it’ll even make grandma happy.

    BME Update – 2,300 Images

A nice even numbered update for you today. The beautiful resilient has graced us with her presence. I’ve been grouping the updates by type and that seems to give fairly large updates every other day. I’m hesitant to do daily updates as there is so much going on and the machine requires a fair amount of baby sitting to keep the build process going. While planning for BMEfest, I can’t really commit to that right now. The every other day mega updates seem to work out well.

As a thank you to those who have been buying their ModProm tickets in advance. I decided to select someone who had already purchased a ticket to receive some custom jewelry from one of our sponsors. Our pre-prom give aways are courtesy of Aesthetics Body Mod. We have 2 more raffles coming up and only those who have purchased their tickets prior to the day I choose to pick out of the hat (just kidding, I’m using a random number generator by order of the guest list) are the guests who are eligible for these amazing gifts!

The lucky number was 27 which was IAM’s very own JesseV. You could be the next winner!

Please buy your tickets for ModProm before we sell out! There are only 200 seats available in total and most of those are already gone!

BME Update – 2,307 new images

I went away for the weekend. It wasn’t worth the stress and the headache of knowing I wouldn’t be updating. At least the site only had to go 3 days without a massive update. This update is full of tattoo goodness. The missing May 24th images should be resurrected by this update. Not sure what happened. It’s most likely an error in the zip file that didn’t unzip properly causing the HTML files not to be updated. The search engine on the main page is also working again.

The cover for this update is unmistakably work by Cere on MagneticDistortion. Not only is Cere BME, you are. I am. We all are. If it wasn’t for the community. Where would any of us be?

The next image update should include more work by Cere as well. Hopefully some great photos out of Texas and I know I’ll have convention coverage from NIX after the convention in the middle of June. I’m going to have a booth there which is nice. Notice the banners? If you’re in the Toronto area, hope to see you there.

The only thing I need now is a great convention banner. Anyone feeling creative?

    BME Update

Posted 1,023 images today, thanks as usual to Phil for processing the images. This update’s coverboy is Scott. I’m not sure if he’s on IAM or not since there wasn’t a link but if so, someone let me know.

There are something like 2500+ images ready to go and the backlog of emails is down to May 22nd. If you haven’t heard back about your submission and you emailed it before May 22nd, email [email protected]. Please note that if you sent your images to an email address other than [email protected] or instead of using the IAM upload or BME upload tools, they will not be posted to BME.

I’ve been thinking about some really neat contest ideas, one of which is a trip to Africa, Asia and Latin America to accompany me and a small team on an anthropological adventure. That would just be crazy. It’s at least a year out in the planning stage.

I’ve been putting together a street team to get more coverage of conventions around the world. I’ve been invited to come to NIX by Damian so I’ll be there with a booth, just like in Montreal and Buenos Aires. I love it when a plan comes together! Now all I have to do is get a new banner made in time and hope that the thousands of stickers and cards that have been ordered arrive in time!
