Still Snoop Dogg and D-R-E

A lot of people tend to label me a redneck, seeing as how I have portraits of a lot of country music singers and the like tattooed all over my leg. Truth be told though, I love me some Dr. Dre and would definitely consider a portrait of him at some point. So I was stoked to see this well done portrait of him and Snoop.

The artist who did this, Andy Gubert  who owns Exclusive Tattoos in Gotha Germany will be doing a guest spot at True Grit Tattoos in Burlington Ontario from August 28th until September 11th. If you want an appointment book it soon, as his spots are starting to go. You can book with him at True Grit Tattoos by either calling to set up a consultation with Tye or e-mailing  [email protected]

The best of the best

At the Dallas Suspension Practitioners Convention, where the best of the best  in the suspension community work together, you get to see the best of modern suspension rigging.

Take this photo Jared submitted for instance. The most noticeable variation of the rigging is the catch cups. How many times have we seen tandem suspensions done that took no precautions to reduce the risk of the lower suspendee being contaminated by the upper suspendee? These catch cups may not 100% isolate the lower suspendee from risk of contamination but they certainly lower the risk factor to a far more acceptable level.

The cord I am assuming is tech-12, (feel free to correct me if you were there and I am wrong on this) which has a ridiculously higher breaking strength than the 550 cord most suspension teams still use. Then there are the hooks, these particular hooks are made by Black Sheep Hooks and are an 8 gauge locking design with a higher breaking strength and the added  safety factor of it being a locked design when compared to the mustads, which are far more commonly used. Then, of course, there is also an assortment of locking carabiners and high rated shackles.

If you want to keep up with the latest and greatest in suspension techniques and equipment, be sure to check out the SusCon picture recently uploaded to this gallery , and also read up on the forums at suspension.org.

Traditional (hand poked) tattoo convention

With tattooing’s recent boom in popularity, tattoo conventions are a dime a dozen now. So normally, I wouldn’t  bother posting promotional material for  one. However, this tattoo convention is so different, I felt it is 100% worthy of a plug on here.

ManWoman actually sent us the information on this convention, and the fact he was involved was enough to get me interested. The convention will take place  in Cobh, Cork Co. Ireland on the 10th and 11th of July.  The tattooing will all be hand-poked traditional, even Eskimo tattooing. ManWoman will be guest speaker and will also be interviewed for a swastika documentary.

PS: If any modblog readers make it out to this, be sure to send up some pictures!

What exactly is going on here?

Of course there were a TON of suspension photos from the recent Dallas Suspension Practitioners Convention. Yet, while digging through the hundreds of photos in the ritual gallery, this totally sans-suspension photo jumped out at me. Maybe because it involves old friends of mine, or perhaps just because it is so totally random and awkward. That random awkwardness is what makes it captures the true spirit of most of the mod events I have been to better than the more typical posed, or serious shots.

The picture belongs to Brian.

The beard belongs to Micah.

The look of shock and awe belongs to Scot.

That hand, I am pretty damn certain that belongs to no other than Shawn Porter.

The ever changing, ever evolving, xronix.

Any longtime modblog reader will probably remember xronix in one of his multiple previous features. He has been featured numerous times on here and for good reason, he has an amazing collection of mods and changes looks enough that each feature appears totally different from the last. I really dig this picture, it’s almost like he has evolved past human and if I were ever to make a sequel to “The Fifth Element“, I would damn sure cast him in a major role.

It is also well worth noting that xronix, not only has his eyeballs tattooed, but he did them himself!

MMM Bop? Really?

In the 559 pages of Music Tattoos, I bet you would have almost zero chance of finding another Hanson inspired tattoo (feel free to correct me if I am wrong). Yet, there is one IAM user, who’s username says it all ilovehanson. While in Kansas City, she got this ultimate tribute to the young boys with instruments done by  Andrew Milko at Mercy Seat Tattoo.

BMEtv – Trailer!

I know everyone has been wondering what’s been going on with the BME tour so here it goes! First I wanted to thank H2Ocean and Industrial Strength for helping make the tour possible and supporting BME.

Our schedule started to get a little haywire somewhere along the third or fourth week of the tour.  It started off with a never ending erupting volcano which soured travel plans, then some political unrest, economic instability causing more political unrest, being hospitalized and then coming home with an awesome case of pneumonia,  and so many more “little things” we had to take a break. Richard has been working his butt off  editing up a storm. I’m glad to announce that things are coming along well and we should be able to start uploading and posting videos in the next week from our time in Australia and New Zealand. With over 60+ Australian and New Zealand tattooers, piercers and body modification artists already interviewed, we are well on our way to a great start with what I originally intended to do with the tour project. I hope you enjoy the tour preview video that Richard put together and I can’t wait to start posting more videos!

I really want to thank Richard, Chez, Darah and Megan for joining me on the Australian & New Zealand leg of the tour and for all the work they put into the 5 weeks we were out on the road. As I said before, I can’t wait till we start publishing the interviews that we’ve done to date and I look forward to getting out on the road again and seeing what else the Body Modification Community has to offer in the rest of the world!

Beauty has her way

I’m not ashamed to say that when I came across this photo, this beautiful woman actually took my breath away. She is absolutely stunning. UndoingEverything has credited James of Body Electric Tattoo though she didn’t specify whether he did all of her piercings or something in particular in the photo.  Her piercings really work well and are very aesthetically pleasing.  I think this is a good example of body modification really enhancing someone’s appearance.  (I may also have a slight girl crush, it’s hard to say.)
