Phil designed these shirts for the suspension school that he’s brought Allen Falkner up from Texas as well as other experts to teach (as far as I know “suspendee” spots are still available — contact Phil for more information). Anyway, because they were white shirts (you can get your Hookspotting shirt here), he’s been tossing everyone he knows with one into a cold shower — starting with Serendipity and Black and Blue (click through for the shirt, or click the usernames to check out the mods you can guess at through the shirts).

Hookspotting (continuing the IP violations meme)
As part of “BME week” (or whatever) that surrounds BMEfest at the end of June and start of July are a variety of events, including the Suspension School organized by Philip Barbosa (visit his IAM page for more detailse). The instructors are some of the best — the course is lead by Allen Falkner (suspension.org/TSD) and with backup from Emrys Yetz, Jill Allen, Jon Pett and Jason Shaw.
Anyway, people quite liked the event shirt that Phil designed, so we’ve put it up in BMEshop as a fundraiser as well. You can click through to get it… And the portrait of Robert Carlyle from Trainspotting was done by John Tilt of Body Art Studios in Stafford, UK.

ModProm / BMEfest are getting close!
I’ve got a lot of other things I have to do this upcoming week a so I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to do a ton of posting here on ModBlog (but watch the BME/encyclopedia and BME of course). That said, you know I can’t stop myself from posting so who knows…
I did want to again post about ModProm and BMEfest (July 1, 2007). The BBQ during the day is free, but if you’d like to come to the formal evening event (which is really the fun part in my opinion), you can get your ModProm ticket here (and you’ll get the shirt in the mail immediately). Tickets are first-come-first-serve — if you are getting a ticket but can’t do it in the next week or so, please write me! (Note: You do not need to be an IAM/BME member to come).
Click for a closer look at the shirt:
Oh, and since lots of people have asked me if they can get just the shirt, we’ve posted it as a limited edition “sponsor” shirt — click here for only the “Oddrey Hepburn” shirt (this helps support the event too, which is being run at a loss).
Gorilla Glass (Jason Pfohl) Interview Posted
Ryan from BMEshop thought it would be good for people to start meeting some of the folks that he works with to bring you great body modification products (it’s more than just BME swag!). To begin, he chatted with Jason Pfohl from Gorilla Glass down in Oaxaca, Mexico. Click the picture to read the interview now.
PS. This is Ryan’s first interview! I think he did a great job…
New BME swag
I don’t normally promote specific BMEshop products here because, well, it’s kind of tacky to blogspam your own swag, but I really like the way these last two shirts turned out. First is a redraw of the old “Dr. BME” logo by me, and we’ve put it on long-sleeves with a please-don’t-sue-us-Red-Cross arm print… As modeled by tcie (and you can click on either of them to go to their BMEshop page):
Next is the BME Aotearoa design, drawn by iam:original_sly (and prepared for printing by Jasonthe29th) to celebrate his local heritage.
New suspension book!
Great news, but first a big congratulations to Matt Larkin for the indie release of his first book. For the last few years he’s been shooting the folks from Rites of Passage using ambrotype photography (ie. wet plate, a 19th century technique that’s rare these days). Click on the pictures to jump to BMEshop where it’s available (and visit Matt on IAM if you’d like to see more pictures).
I’m eagerly watching my mailbox for my copy, I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time now!
I heart Candice
Watch for photos from this series in an upcoming book by photographer Antonio Florez. These pictures of Candice were done at the 2006 London Tattoo Convention — that reminds me, if you’re interested in an interview with Candice there’s one in the new issue of Tattoo&Piercing (and she’s on the cover).
Medical Toys
Ryan just restocked BMEshop‘s medical toys section, including these mouth spreaders that our friends Bella and Esotericus are trying out — visit BMEshop for the toys, and BellaVendetta for more pictures. Photos: Atom.
Hardy Lips: Lip Plumper
Our friend Lara knows more about cosmeticsthan almost anyone Iknow. Always on the lookout for something to entertainthe masses, she sent me this link to Hardy LipsLip Plumper.
The Lip Plumper seems to be one of the clear glosses with magicalingredients that create a beestung look to one’s lips. At $24.95a pop, it might seem a bit expensive, but it’s far cheaper thanpermanent cosmetics. Furthermore, the art on the container islovely. (If someone would like to buy me a tube, I’ll post Beforeand After pictures of my lips. I promise.)
Expect from me some Modblogs to help with your holidayshopping. This is definitely an item I’d suggest for a lady who likes themostly-natural look and who appreciates good packaging.
Naughty Girls Need Stamps… Too!
I come across all kinds of articles every day, and just came across a press release for Nicole Yost’s Asta Arts Kick Ass Rubber Stamps.
While we on IAM are a creative lot (along with scarification, piercing, and tattoo artists, we have our fair share of photographers, knitters, scrapbookers, and other crafters), I couldn’t find any forums for rubber stamping. Maybe it’s because there weren’t any cool stamps before?
The inspiration for the retro-cool stamps came to Yost during a late-night crafting session. "I was making a stack of hand-stamped cards and I just thought, 'Why doesn't anyone make any cool rubber stamps?' I knew exactly what I wanted, but no one was selling anything like that." Eventually, Yost drew up the designs herself and her company, Asta Arts, was born.
