Big Time

Well, here is some typical European vulgarity, courtesy of known curse word aficionado Lionel from Out Of Step (more), who is just tremendous. Now, you may ask yourself, “Why is some waffle-faced puppet walking a tightrope with an umbrella that keeps the rain in, apparently, while wearing a smock that reads ‘Go fuck yourself’ in Lucifer’s preferred tongue (French)?” And the answer, of course, is…magic?

This Week in BME

It’s that time of the week, ModBloggers—this bird’s gotta fly.

(Tattoo by the excellent Lionel from Out of Step, who’s got such a singular style and has been featured on ModBlog several million times. We’ll feature some more of his stuff very soon.)

So what went down this week, friends?

Hey, we like nice, simple piercings.

We also like portraits.

And painting in the nude.

Burn yo’ dick.

Split yo’ tongue.

The incredible Sean Karn wowed us all again, as per usual.

I did a really fun podcast with Brian/Perk900, live from the APP! (There’s more where this came from, too.)

Oh yeah, check out this awesome, exclusive video of Rob Spence, a.k.a. EYEBORG.

You know the deal: Check back this weekend for some good stuff, and we’ll be back to full crushing potential come Monday morning. Until then, take care of yourselves, ModBloggers, have some fun, and, as always, thank you for your continued support of BME.

Best Tattoo Ever… Already Beaten!

I didn’t think that the me and your mom tattoo would get one-upped any time soon in terms of winning the slap-stick crass-and-crude tattoo Olympics, but I hadn’t considered the Howie-factor (lunacobra.net), now that he’s tattooing as well! What a hilarious gaff on Lionel’s work (see also: 1 2 3 4) and other avant-garde modern tattoo artists.

Superman Looooooooves Horses, and Horses Loooooooove Superman

How did he do that linework?

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Lionel from Out of Step, an artist working across Europe. This amazing piece was done on Kna‘s wife while Lionel was guest spotting at Temple Tatu in Brighton, UK. Be sure to click the picture to zoom in so you can see the tattoo’s crazy linework… I’m assuming that the hair’s calligraphy was done with a fairly radical custom needle configuration, almost like a custom brush. The entire tattoo took a bit under three hours to do.

Abstract Black Arm Tattoo

I’ve featured work by Lionel (Out of Step, France) here before, but I really liked the way this full-black forearm was capped off. I think I’d like it better though if the hand was fully black as well, as if he’d fallen into a barrel of black ink or something. But black hands are pretty weird looking I guess and would move the tattoo into a very different visual space.

More constellation tattoos

Recently I posted an Orion constellation tattoo that I liked conceptually, so I thought it might be nice to post a few other constellations — for whatever reason Orion is the most common… I suppose along with the Big Dipper, it’s probably the easiest to identify when you’re a kid so it becomes a part of people’s childhood memory. Assuming it’s not something worse.

Anyway, let’s start off with Gemini:

How about Scorpius rising? This one is by Nina Collier at Ancient Arts in Renton, WA.

Finally, this isn’t really a constellation, but I like this star tattoo by French artist NOON at Boucherie Traditionnelle out of Troyes and Paris… There are a number of French artists working in similarly art-influenced styles (see also Lionel of Out of Step, on BME, and Yann, profiled on Needled.

If you like that, you can see more of his work on his website and on BME.
