Filling in the holes

We’ve seen earlobe reconstructions.  We’ve seen tongue split reversals.  Isn’t it time we see something else?  How about repairing up the divots left behind by facial piercings?  In this case, cheek piercings.  Leave it to Samppa to come up with a way to do it.

On the right is one of the holes before the repair, and the left is just after it had been closed up.

And here is the end result..

While there is still a small mark, unless you’re looking for it you would never suspect a hole had been there.

Samppa’s US tour is still underway, so get in touch with him if you have any facial holes you want fixed up.

Also, keep an eye on ModBlog.  Next week we’re going to take a look at his navel removal procedure, including step-by-step photos.

You wanted something new…

Well leave it to Samppa to deliver.

Ear pointing as a practice isn’t anything new, however, Samppa has started to use a brand new technique to point ears that is completely different than folding method that is most commonly used.

He starts off with a normal looking ear..

Then instead of cutting and folding, he takes the ear and reshapes it, leaving a much smoother and more natural looking pointed ear.  Here’s how the above ear looked right after the sutures had been tied off.

Here’s a side by side comparison of another ear, this one after it has had some time to heal up.

If you have been looking to get this procedure done, and you live in the USA, then you’re in luck as Samppa has just started his US Tour.  He will be in the US till June 2011, please contact him at [email protected] for info on the tour, booking of appointments and his availability for guest spots at studios. For anytime after June 2011 please contact him via his website, www.voncyb.org

There are still a couple of new procedures that he’s doing, so keep checking ModBlog, as we’ll be showing you some of the other new tricks Samppa has up his sleeve.

Begging for air

Sometimes a job calls on you to go above and beyond your normal routine.  For a model, this can happen quite often.  In the case of IAM: Rachietartz, her latest photoshoot pushed her to the brink of consciousness.  Using a tie to cut off her airway, Rachie was on the verge of passing out when this photo was snapped.  You can see just how intense this was not only by the look in her eyes, but also by how red her face got while she was straining for air.

BME is Hiring!

As you’ve probably noticed, videos from last year’s section of the world tour have started to appear on ModBlog.  Over the past couple of months 25 separate interviews have been posted, and there are many more to come.  We’re still a few months from being completely finished with all of the Australia and New Zealand videos, but when that happens it’ll be time to start working on editing the videos from the Japan leg of the tour.  Which is where you come in.

BME is hiring a Japanese to English translator to translate the hundreds of hours of video that was shot.  In addition they will need to be able to transcribe the dialogue, as well as type it out with the proper time codes and subtitle formatting.  Location doesn’t matter, as you can do this from home, and yes you will be paid. Oh, and it probably goes without saying, but you’ll need to be fluent in both Japanese and English.  Experience with editing video is a plus!

If you’re interested in the position and want to join the BME team, please send your qualifications and/or any questions you may have to [email protected] with the subject line “World Tour – Japanese Translator Job”.

And now for something completely different, a tattoo of a camera by Arad Bert from Kipod Tattoo.

Also, a big thank you to everyone that is sending in requests for portfolio galleries.  The response has been fantastic, and we’re looking forward to hearing from more of you.  So if you’re a body modification professional, a tattoo artist, a studio, or a suspension team.  Send an e-mail to [email protected] with a request for a portfolio gallery, so the next time you submit photos they’ll be added to your own personal gallery, in addition to appearing in the category galleries.

Ganesha Sahasranama

One of the signature traits of the tattoos that come out of Kipod Studio is the sheer excellence of the quality of work.  We’ve seen tattoos by George and Michael in the past, and one from Arad earlier today.  This portrait of Ganesha on a lotus was done by another one of the talented artists, Alexey Zamotevsky.

With the new gallery format, artists from every aspect of the body modification community can create a gallery for themselves or for the studio that they work out of like the gang at Kipod did.  If you’d like to have a gallery opened in your name just send off an email to [email protected].

The Cyborg Unleashed

Samppa Von Cyborg isn’t just a pretty face.  He’s also a pioneer in the modification industry and is currently on tour in the US holding seminars, performing shows, and of course taking clients.  Over the course of the week we’ll be taking a look at some of the newest things Samppa has been working on, as well as seeing photos from his tour.  You can also take a look at some of his past works in his BME scarification portfolio gallery.

If you’d like to get work done by Samppa while he is stateside, you can contact him at [email protected].  He’s only going to be here until June.  After that you can make a booking through his website, voncyb.org

In addition BME is happy to announce that we’ve expanded the portfolio sections of the galleries.  Previously only tattoo artists and a handful of other people were able to have their own portfolio galleries, but now these galleries are available to everyone.  So if you’re a piercer, a tattoo artist (or studio), a scarification artist, or a suspension crew, and you don’t have a gallery yet, send an e-mail to [email protected] and we’ll set one up for you.

A fitting tribute to a fallen friend

As many of you know, the BME community lost one of it’s own last week, Adam Aries. It was several years ago at a party at Shawn’s old place that I first met Adam. We immediately hit it off. However, the next few times I ran into him, I do not believe I ever once recognized him right off the bat. Adam’s personal style was ever changing, ever evolving. His hair, facial hair, dress and in some instances makeup changed so often he was hard to keep up with. So when this random dude came running up to me with a bleach blonde mohawk and makeup that looked like it was done by Divine herself, I had no clue who it was………that is until I saw his telltale  tattoo, a dragon fly on his throat. As soon as I saw that tattoo I instantly knew it was Adam, and I instantly knew I was in for a good time.

Apparently, I am not alone in connecting this trademark tattoo!  I saw this piece posted on Adam’s facebook page, so I contacted the proud wearer of this tattoo, and asked his permission to post it here.  The tattoo is on Andy Mac Kenzie aka Applejack.  Andy was a close friend of Adam’s and is a tattoo apprentice at Pino Bro’s the shop where Adam pierced. The tattoo was done by another close friend and coworker of Adam’s Deirdre Doyle.

My old friend Robin was visiting last night and she said she knew of at least one other person who had gotten a similar dragonfly tribute tattoo. So if you or anyone you know has gotten a tattoo to memorialize Adam, just shoot me an email with the picture, your info and artist credit and I will add it to this post.

May Adam’s legacy, memories, the piercings he did and the music created far outlive his life that was cut way too short.
