Stretching it out

Lately we’ve been seeing a lot of big dramatic suspensions on ModBlog, so today we’re going to go back to basics with a really peaceful looking single knee suspension.

You can see just how at peace he is while his body is in a relaxed state hanging by his knee.  While suspensions can be for fun and for show, it’s good to remember that they’re also a way to get in touch with one’s spiritual side, and use the time in the air as a time of meditation and reflection.

BMEBoys are fascinating!

This eyebrow raising young man submitted his photos under the name “withoutmer”, and said that his tattoos include Silver Mt Zion neck tattoos, and a quote from The Crow on his chest.

Thanks to how the new galleries work, his photo can be found in several galleries, all relevant to his mods.  So look for him in the face and neck tattoo, lettering tattoo, music tattoo, and ear stretching galleries.

Mother Nature

With everything going on in Australia lately, some may think that the earth has it out for them.  Of course, this isn’t the case and they’ve just had a horrible string of luck lately.  This does still make some think of the earth, as well as those mythological figures people have attributed to the planet over the centuries.  In Greek mythology, Gaia (or Gaea) was the primal goddess of the earth, the forerunner to Mother Nature.  Taking a look at this blackwork/cutting combination you can see how even today the myths stay strong.

Of course this could be a cutting dedicated to a person, or possibly the video game.  In any case, the flowing script provides a nice contrast against the black and the other writing on the wrist.

You can check out the full sized image in the blackwork and tribal gallery, as well as in the miscellaneous cutting gallery.

Crisis in Australia

For those who haven’t seen the news today, Australia has been hit by another natural disaster in the form of Cyclone Yasi.  Early reports had the storm tracking as a class 5, but it has now been downgraded to a “very destructive” class 3.  For comparison, this storm is larger and more powerful than Hurricane Katrina.

There are a number of members of our community living in the affected areas and we’re all worried about them.  If you’re one of the affected, please let us know you’re ok.  For those not affected directly, the Australian Red Cross is working to provide assistance to the communities, as well as providing the National Registration and Inquiry System, which allows people who have gotten to safety to check in and let others know they’re safe.

BMEtv – Steve Ma Ching

Last summer the BME World Tour interns stopped by Western Tattoo in Auckland, New Zealand.  While there they had a chance to sit down with tattoo artist Steve Ma Ching and get his thoughts on modern Polynesian tattoos.

To check out the video, just keep on reading.

If you’ve missed any of the videos so far, you can check them out in the BME World Tour Video Gallery

Jellyfish Lips

The vast majority of lip tattoos that I’ve seen consist of a single word or initials in black ink, with the occasional small symbol added for emphasis.  Then there are the exceptions, just like this jellyfish lip that Jonas from Hayd Tattoo in Schramberg, Germany did.  For a location that traditionally is used with a minimalistic design, to see a full color piece is a great change of pace.

You can check out the full sized image, as well as more lip tattoos, in the lip tattoo gallery.
