How do you eat with that?

I’m fairly certain every single person with a large lip plate has been asked that very same question at least once in their lifetime.  When Sean chatted with Jenya a little while ago, the question came up, and sure enough he has no problems eating at all.   So why am I bringing this up now?  Well, Pavel_Zhilenkov sent in some great photos of his upper lip to the lip plate gallery, and as you can see by the photo below eating isn’t a problem for him either.

Smoking hot

To round out today’s posts here’s a stunning BMEGirl from my hometown of Toronto.

Kat here is a piercer at Ultimate Tattoo, the shop the photographer Dylan Leeder lives above.

While you can find this photo in several galleries on BME thanks to the new system of being able to tag modifications in a photo, the easiest place to find photos of all the BMEGirls is in the BMEGirl gallery.

Your body is your soul

That’s the philosophy that BubbaSquirrel has, which he chose to reflect in his facial tattoos.  Taking the phrase, “Your body is your soul”, translating it to Thai, and then having Taka Tamada from Body Electric in LA jumble it up and mix it with shapes, was what went into this unique looking piece.

You can check out the full size image in the face and neck tattoo gallery, or in the scalpelled lip gallery with his large lip disc put in by James Wiz (also from Body Electric).

Western Diamondback Rattlerman

I really enjoyed doing the interview with Alan Macias, and was perusing BME to find other people who might make for a good interview. That’s when  ran across this new picture of NoMan Pan. You may recognize him as he is no stranger to  modblog. With the picture was the following description:

The first stage in my transformation process into a Western Diamondback Rattler.

The facial tattooing was done by Christine Starnes of Custom Tattoos From the Soul in Austin, Texas, which is apparently the place to be for

So NoMan Pan, I left a comment on the wall of your facebook fan page, but I couldn’t find a single other way to contact you so if you happen to come across this post and want to do an interview with me, please shoot me an email [email protected],com.

The Noble Platypus

It’s been a little while since we last checked in with IAM’s resident human platypus Jenya.  Aside from his fantastic mods, he also exudes so much joy.  When he e-mailed me a little while back with these photos he had mentioned that because of some health problems he had to reduce the size of his lip plates to a 32mm medusa and 58mm labret, but he’s doing better and is back on track to reaching his goal of a 100mm medusa and 200mm labret.  I really love that when he was telling me the size of his lips in the photo he was saying that they’re small.  I guess size is relative.  Either way, this human platypus and his impressive collection of modifications is always a treat to post.

She’s Heartless

Ok, so she may not be heartless, but she is missing some skin in the shape of a heart.  Normally when we see scarification and tattoos combined it’s a scar design over top of blackwork, or a cutting used to enhance a tattoo (or vice versa).   In this case we’ve got a scar that cuts right through her vast assortment of chest tattoos.  It gives a nice contrast to them as it shows that underneath her skin, which is covered in spider webs and zombie legs, she has a heart that is strong enough to push through her exterior.  So no matter what someone may judge about how she looks from the outside, what matters most is what is inside.  Then again we’re here to admire her, which shouldn’t be a problem considering how pretty she is.

You can check out more of Anders’ work in his scarification portfolio.

Behind the Lines

Two weeks ago we took a look at a couple of pieces by Magnutze.  Today we get to take a look at the man behind those incredible abstract tattoos.  Sometimes people can forget that the artists behind the artwork are just the same as everyone else.  Their passion to modify themselves is often overlooked by their own artistic accomplishments, which is a shame because a lot of them have some fantastic pieces.  For example…

I love the look of the tattoos on his face, as they don’t fit into any conventional design.  With a lot of his artwork falling into the abstract column, it should come as no surprise that he has the style on him as well.  The artist is Chandler Barnes from Fur Immer in Berlin

The inner eye at rest

Taking a look at how relaxed ThunderKat79 looks in this photo, its hard to believe that she just had her inner eye microdermal put in.  Looking at the second photo and seeing how she positioned the piercing to become part of her OM symbol, makes me believe that she was probably meditating the entire time it was being done.  With meditation, one can reach a type of clarity of the mind, opening up their inner eye to take in all the world around them.  To a lot of people piercings can help them achieve this state, as we see with many play piercing sessions.  The ties between spirituality and modifications run deep in many cultures around the world, and the two have been linked together since the earliest recorded histories.  So in today’s modern world, it isn’t surprising at all to see the practices linked in this way, as it reaffirms just how much a role modification plays in the lives of the people in the modified community.

No matter what her reasons for getting the piercing is, we can all agree that she looks very happy with the results, and that’s really what matters most.

Frilly Pink Things

It’s always great to see attractive modified girls on ModBlog.  What’s even better is seeing them while they’re raising money to support charity.

The following photos of IAM: Pink_Fairy and IAM: Nexizydrate were taken as part of a photoshoot to raise money for cancer research in the UK.  The photos were taken by MC Smith and Peter Whitney, following a play piercing session with Dan Hayes.

Keep reading to see a couple more photos from the shoot.

In case you didn’t know, Nexizydrate is the one with pink hair, and Pink_Fairy has the pink flower in her hair.

You can check out more photos from the shoot in the play piercing gallery, as well as in the BMEGirls gallery.
