Free Falling

We’ve seen Stanislav from the Moscow based Sinner team perform his free fall suspensions here before, but up until now he was the only one doing them on his team.  Well that number has gone up by one now that his wife Elena has taken the plunge as well by performing a 50ft fall from an 80ft bridge.

Not to be outdone by his partner in crime, Stanislav upped the ante by performing what I believe is the first backflip free fall suspension.

After seeing these and the rest of the photos in their team gallery, I honestly have no clue what they’ll come up with next.

Hook Love

Here we have Stanislav and Elena in the final moments before she’s lifted up in the air for a 2 point resurrection suspension from the bridge that The Sinner Team uses so frequently.  The last time I posted a picture of Stanislav I had some requests to get a better look at his facial tattoos, so this should suffice.  You can also get a good look at Elena’s hand implant which has healed up really nicely.

And here she is high above the Russian ground.

Head on over the The Sinner Team’s gallery to see more photos of the two of them, as well as this suspension.

So very, very cold

It’s one thing to do a suspension outdoors in winter.  It’s a completely different thing to do a tandem suspension outdoors in the middle of a Russian winter at night.

Of course it’s The Sinner Team!  This is just one of a number of winter suspensions that they’ve sent in photos of over the past week.  Check out their BME gallery to see more of their winter fun.

Teamwork is key

For those of you not familiar with The Sinner Team out of Moscow, they’re a suspension team that is continually trying to push the envelope of what can be accomplished through suspensions.  They’ve recently sent in photos from a number of different suspensions, so expect to see them pop up over the next little bit.

As for today, we’re going to take a look at a couple of their recent tandem suspensions.  To start with, we have what appears to be a tandem superman suspension, although the placement of the three hooks on the lower suspension leads me to believe that it’s called something else.

There’s another photo after the break, as well as a video from one of the Sinner Team’s most dangerous suspensions.

Next up is a triple suspension, primarily consisting of suicide suspensions, but with added knees for the middle suspendee.

Finally there’s a video that has been making the rounds for a little while now, featuring an extremely dangerous suspension.  Before watching it, please keep in mind that this is NOT a typical set up, and the level of risk involved is astronomical.

As with all suspensions, these are not something to be attempted without the supervision of a team of experienced practitioners.  Even then, there is always room for improvement, which is why the suspension community hosts Suscons all over, to keep practitioners up to date in all the latest developments in practicing safe suspensions.

Moving Forward

One of the highlights of the BME NYE festivities was the suspensions that occurred on new year’s day.  We saw Britt’s suicide suspension earlier in the week, so today we’re going to take a look at a suspension that may or may not have caused a group of people to get something in their eyes all at the same time.

In what was her very first suspension ever Janet, TrickyDick’s better half, went up in a lotus suspension.  What started as a simple suspension quickly turned into something emotionally powerful that everyone present felt lucky to be there.

I e-mailed Janet earlier this week and asked her to describe the experience from her point of view.  After the break, you can read what she had to say, as well as check out a few more photos from the suspension.

The suspension started out like any other, with Cere, Richard and ChrisB facilitating the hooks and the rigging.  Once in position and everything cleared, Janet was slowly lifted off the ground.  From that moment on, everyone watching became very still.  At first she was in pain, and we could all feel it.  Richard dropped to his knee (as you can see in the above photo), and spoke with his bride-to-be.  I didn’t catch much of the exchange, as it was a private moment between the two of them, but he was able to get her to bring her arms up into her lap, which helped relax her.

With the initial uncertainty out of the way, Janet became much more relaxed, but was still a little hesitant about the experience.  That all changed the moment one of her dogs came to her side.  The smile that crossed her face at that moment will be with me forever.  We all knew at that moment that not only was she alright, but she was in a fantastic place.  I’m pretty sure it was around this time that quite a few people suddenly had dirt fly into their eyes, as a good number of them suddenly started to get tears forming.

The only place to go from there was up, and as she was slowly raised high in the air, all of us on the ground could feel the joy emanating from Janet.  When asked later on about her experience, here’s what she had to say:

“I honestly thought my first suspension would double as my last. Now that I’ve been up and come back down, I have no idea why I thought that way for so long.

Lotuses are so beautiful and if I was going to suspend only once, I was going to make it count, even though the hooks were probably what I feared most. I had really had no interest in suspending until I saw pictures of a Lotus, and I told my fiancé, Richard, that I was going to do that one day, and mentally committed myself to try it… eventually. On NYE, after we left Rachel’s, I brought it up again in the car on our way to the hotel – that maybe I wanted to hang the next day – but I was so nervous about it that I debated back and forth until really the moment that I took my first set of hooks. I really wanted to start the year of with a bang, moving forward, and I had so many wonderful people around me who were super supportive and encouraging. The experience was amazing. The hooks were cake, especially compared to how I had imagined them, and once I was off the ground, I felt better than I ever have. And after hanging in the lotus for awhile, I decided I was done with the natural, self-containment of the lotus and that I wanted to cut my legs down and hang suicide. It didn’t go super smoothly and then it started to rain, but it felt great to allow my legs some freedom, even if it was just on my way back down to the ground.

So, a huge thanks to Richard, Cere, Chris B. for putting me up! to Rachel for hosting the event! and to all the BMEers who were there and shared the experience! because it was really the Best. Thing. Ever.”

As someone who was on the ground, I can safely speak for everyone there when I say thank you to Janet for allowing not only us to be present, but also for being willing to share your experience with the ModBlog readers.

The photos were all taken by Jen, and you can check out many more of them in the BME BBQ and events gallery.

Talk about intestinal fortitude

Any fan of wrestling in the 80s will tell you, if someone is showing a lot of intestinal fortitude, it means they’ve got guts and they’re pushing through the pain.  It also meant they’re probably about to do some awesome finishing move after coming back from almost losing the match.  Think Hogan running around shaking his head while his opponent tries to knock him off his feet, or the Ultimate Warrior bouncing off the ropes like a mad man.

Well, looking at this 2 point stomach suspension it’s pretty clear the guy suspending has some intestinal fortitude.

The suspension was facilitated by Gibi Body Art in Brasil.

ROP BBQ is coming up in just a few months

One of the top “don’t miss”  US East Coast events is definitely the Rites Of Passage annual BBQ/ Campout.

This years event will be held Aug 13th, 2010 to Aug 15th, 2010. Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning will consist of BBQing, Suspensions, Pulls, and just relaxing with friends at Pittsfield State Forest in Massachusetts.

Spots to suspend are going to be LIMITED, so it really pays to donate ahead of time to guarantee yourself a chance. For those who want to suspend please contact us via email at [email protected] or contact Cere through IAM.

Campsites go quickly, last year they ended up booking out early, so I’d also recomend reserving your site now.

Suspending Over the City

I really like this shot of Pirão suspending in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil. If you were to look just at the top half, it’d be your typical Christ-like outdoor woodsy suspension picture, but no—just behind him are apartments, a strip mall and city buses. Hey, a little minor cognitive dissonance never hurt anybody.
