Photographic Memory!

Dabe sends us one of the coolest video submissions I’ve seen in a long time. As we’re gearing up to release the new video galleries on BME, I thought this would be a great addition to show what kind of creativity can be used in video submissions for the site. I’ll let Dabe fill you in on all the details:

So with the help of Tony Touch, I am getting an awesome Nerd sleeve worked on whenever I go visit Toledo. We decided to roll with an evolution of cameras at first, then more nerdy references above.

Tony got the idea from another artist to do a stop-motion video where it looks like the tattoo does itself. I brought in a single alienbee and softbox, plus my handy new remote, and we got to it.

Hopefully we’ll do this for the entire arm. I’d love to have that kind of record of progress on this 🙂

Since everyone is asking, some things about the tattoo:
-The actual time of the sitting was 4 hours
-This video is comprised out of 1054 shots
-”ROZWÓJ” is Polish for “development”
-The numbers on the film canister reflect the date I took my first serious photograph
-Yes, the film is 35mm, but it’s not going into any of the cameras, just wrapping around. I’m well aware that it looks odd having it next to medium format cameras, but it will make sense when the rest of the sleeve is completed. 🙂

And here we have Emma‘s new yarn and pincushion feet tattoos courtesy of J Ranno at Holeshot Tattoo in Amherst, Massachusetts! It may have taken five agonizing hours, but the result is an undeniably fine tribute to an undeniably wholesome pastime. We thank you for choosing BME for all your cute and crafty tattoo-related needs.

Sweet Talk Like a Cop

While there may be wrong—or, rather, less than ideal—reasons to commit to body modification sometimes, there isn’t really a “right” reason. For some people, it can be an intensely personal, serious and spiritual act, while for others it’s more a means for generating some lightheartedness—both are valid and important aspects of what we try to cover here. We’ve always loved publishing Babasom‘s submissions because, as we’ve said in the past, they genuinely brighten our day (and, likewise, he genuinely seems to enjoy brightening the days of others), but they also feature a man who is pushing his body in a very real way—even if huge septum piercings aren’t as “cutting-edge” as maybe they once were. “I have helped it bloom,” he says of his “metal flower” above. Don’t ever change, Babasom.

Blast Off

Good afternoon, folks! Sorry for the late start—we’re not at liberty to discuss the cause of the delay, but let’s just say the Zodiac killer may be one step closer to being brought to justice. At any rate, let’s begin our week with Jannell, whose presence on these here ModBlogs is always, always appreciated. In this photo by Jeff Greer, she’s sporting a new(ish) set of clavicle microdermals by 7yler, and we don’t think we’re alone in thinking they’re a wonderful complement to an already lovely collection of modification work.

Comments?!

Thanks for the heads up. Apparently there seems to be an issue with one of our security certificates which was causing comments to not post. I couldn’t recreate the error but I’ve made the proper adjustments so that it should be working properly again!

Upcoming Events!

Tonight is a killer book release at CanvasLA from 8pm-11pm. It features the amazing artwork of Ichibay and Pint as well as live drawing by both artists. There are limited books available at the event, though we’re hoping to be able to get a couple copies for BME shop. So don’t miss out on this if you’re here in the Los Angeles area tonight.

I posted about Paul Booth’s upcoming Halloween event for the east coaster readers and I wanted to give the west coast a little love as well. If you’re in the San Jose area, don’t forget to check out the San Jose Tattoo Convention which is put on by State of Grace. Check out their internationally renowned attending artists lists and GO if you love anything about the art of tattooing and can make it out! It’s well worth it! Taki puts on an amazing show that focuses on the art of tattooing at his conventions without distractions of bands, MMA or BMX etc that other promoters add to their shows.

I wish I could make it up but I’ll be out in Las Vegas defending BME against the lawsuit that was filed AGAINST BME (not the other way around) after the plaintiff was found guilty of cybersquatting by a three-member panel, including an arbitrator that he hand-picked. He filed suit against us (not vice versa) and keeps trying to get us to pay him almost $100,000 for the domain.  If anyone wants to have a Vegas meet up this week, I’ll be there from Monday till Wednesday!

Vimby Video: Master Carlitos

Kick ass Videographer Willie T sent me this video the other night. I almost missed it entirely until I was scanning through emails and I saw it. So thanks to Willie for sending over another one of his awesome videos!

Master Carlitos is a Los Angeles Fire fighter who spends his days putting out the massive infernos that LA is well known for, especially after this summer, and his nights working as a tattoo artist.  You can find him here in LA at Last Laugh Tattoo.

I’m off to pick up Trevor McStay from Dynamic Tattoo in Richmond, Australia. He’s making a quick trip to lay down some of his artwork on a very grateful and lucky recipient before he heads out to the San Jose Tattoo Convention which I’ll post about shortly!

Fresh Blood?

Brittany sends us these photos from the Minneapolis, MN Zombie Pub Crawl she and her very bloody friends took part in recently and I have to say they are some of the cutest zombies I’ve seen in a while. You can see their clearly willing victim after the jump. With Brittany and her friends being BME fans, we have to wonder if if they’re using ketchup or the real deal.

Speaking of fresh blood, I’m looking for new authors. While I want to work on more interviews, which we haven’t had a lot of interviews lately, the quality of them has been stellar. BME has never had the opportunity in the past to interview legends like Bob Roberts of Spotlight Tattoo, we’re finally turning that corner where we’re able to get those interviews. This is where you come in. I’d like recruit new Moblog authors, writers and photographers to provide more convention and event coverage, and more chefs in the kitchen who have specific and dedicated interests in the various niches of BME. If you’d like to work with BME, please send me an email. I’d also like people to post suggestions as to whom they’d like to see interviewed. Just because we’re active in the BME community, doesn’t mean we get a chance to know about that kick ass piercer in YOUR TOWN or YOUR favorite Tattoo artist. I’d love to get foreign language interviews and posts as well. The more we can do to bring this world wide community together, the better. So post your feedback in the comments below or send me an email and lets get moving on bringing more great content and news out there.

I have some heavy mods interviews that I’ve been working on the past few weeks that I’ll be posting as soon as I get them edited together. That and I’m going back to working on the beta. Good things are coming and I’m looking forward to it. Hope you are too!

So, uh, wow. Look, we don’t really know what’s going on here, but this isn’t the sort of thing that we can’t post, OK? So let’s just try to anticipate some of your questions here and provide you with the answers you deserve. Yes, there are piercings (six-gauge septum, fourteen-gauge lip). Yes, we realize they are not in any way the focus of this picture. Yes, we would have been tempted to Photoshop piercings into the picture if there had been none, just to have an excuse to post it (sorry). No, we do not have any contact information for this brave soldier. Yes, we will be glad to publish anything they submit in future (as long as it involves leopard print). Yes, we considered the Nightmare Fuel tag. Yes, we may add it retroactively depending on how tonight’s attempt at sleep goes.

I Borrowed It

Oof. So this poor guy was just hanging out in Moscow, Russia, minding his own business and maybe doing some sweet tricks on his BMX when he (apparently) had a pretty phenomenal bail and did some devastating structural damage to one of his 40 mm. lobes. Ugh. Do you see why your editor just stays inside all the time? Sure, we are likely dealing with a number of preventable vitamin deficiencies due to our lack of sunlight, but the chances of this happening? Very, very slim. This guy, though? Didn’t bitch and complain, just stiff-upper-lipped it and got that son of a bitch sewn right back up. Shots of a simpler pre-bail life, as well as post-reconstructing, after the jump. Best of luck healing, good sir.
