Help is out there

The following photo was submitted anonymously with the title “Sexual Assault Survivor”.  It’s a simple tattoo, but it also speaks volumes about the strength this person has to be able to share with the world that they are a survivor.

If you or someone you know is the victim of sexual assault, please get in touch with one of the many organizations out there.  There are people out there that are willing to help.  With yesterday being a day of action to stop bullying, it is good to remember that men, women, and children can all become victims of sexual assault.  Now I’m not making a direct comparison between the two, but in both cases, there are people out there that do care, and want to help.

For more information, please contact your local support organizations, or visit RAINN.org for a list of international support numbers.

It’s-a-me! Mario!

Sure when he first appeared in Donkey Kong he was just a simple construction worker, but as time went on, he became the lovable plumber we all know today.  From his humble upbringing in New York, this Italian Stallion of a plumber quickly rose to the top of his profession.  As his success grew, he was able to take his brother Luigi under his wing and open up Mario Bros Plumbing.  Then one day, a call came in that would change the lives of the brothers forever.  While fixing a major plumbing emergency at a low-rise in Brooklyn, the brothers were sucked into a giant pipe trapping them forever in the mushroom kingdom.  To many this would be a disaster, but these plucky heroes took up the mantle of champions, and became the protectors of the land.  For over 20 years Mario and Luigi have been saving the lives of the residents of the kingdom, as well as providing the rest of us back in the real world a source of inspiration.

Take this tattoo for example.  As the start of a sleeve dedicated to Mario, it shows just how important this immortal plumber has become to the world he was stolen from all those years ago.

Mario!!

The moment after

The act of suspension can be a significant moment in a person’s life.  Yet to an observer, suspending can appear to be only about the time in the air, when in reality, the entire process is important.  Having the hooks pierce your flesh is just the first of many steps that an individual goes through, that climaxes when they are in the air.  Following the time in the air is the denouement, the time after the person has started to descend and before the final bandages are applied.  It is a time of reflection, a chance to look back upon the experience while it is still fresh in the mind.

Taking a look at the following picture you can see in Colin’s posture that he’s taking in his experience.  To put the photo in context, the person in the photo, Colin, was suspended by Lucas and Kai from Pirate Piercing in Belgium.  The suspension took place during the last song of a performance by Amen Ra at a concert in Kortrijk, Belguim.

You can check out the photo of Colin in the air while the band in playing over in the suspension section of the ritual galleries.

Beard Love

The mighty beard.  An ancient symbol of greatness, and the bold embodiment of all that is awesome.  With fall in full swing in the northern hemisphere, the time is nigh for all those who can grow beards to unleash the power that is the beard.  Bearduary is only a few months away, and you don’t want to be left with a bald face when the day of revelry is upon us.

To those unable to grow a beard, fret not as you can show your support to the beards around you in many ways.  Just look at this tattoo by Savannah Brayton from Washington, NJ.  This is a person who loves beards and isn’t afraid to hide it.

I <3 Beards

So men of ModBlog, start growing your beards now, and send in your photos.  Every BMEBoy in Bearduary will be sporting a beard, don’t be left out.  In the meantime, Movember is just around the corner, so if you’ve got a mustache, send in those pictures as well.  And to the ladies of ModBlog, if you’ve got some way of expressing your love of the beard, lets see it as well.

Not ready for marriage?

Previously on ModBlog you’ve seen many different types of marriage related modifications.  From someone proposing during a pull, to matching tattoo wedding bands, the institution of marriage is celebrated in may different ways.

Well what about those who don’t want to get married, or are maybe just not ready to?  Well thanks to BME member Sames, there is now a way to show the world you’re not ready to get married just yet.  From the microdermal gallery comes the “Anti-Wedding Ring”.  A series a microdermals guaranteed to prevent any engagement ring or wedding band from being fully placed on the finger.  Sure, you can get the ring over just the tip, but there’s no way a ring is going to make it to the base of the finger.

"I don't"

The Metal Mulisha

For those who don’t watch the X-Games, or follow motocross at all, then you probably have never heard of The Metal Mulisha.  For everyone else, they know that the Mulisha is a team of riders who enjoy pushing the limits of their respective sports.  By pushing said limits they’ve garnered a huge fan base, and make money hand over fist by selling their merchandise.

A number of parallels can be drawn between members of the Metal Mulisha and members of the BME community.  While they do what they can to push themselves to the limit of their respective sports for personal satisfaction, modified people also push their bodies to extremes in order to fulfill their needs for personal satisfaction.

Now fans of the Mulisha will tell you that just strapping on a helmet and hopping on a bike is only part of the lifestyle.  The members of the Mulisha all are world renown athletes, with world records and countless medals spread amongst them.  To the fans, these guys are the best of the best, and will go out of their way to support them.

Take for example a recent client of Jamie Henderson from Forsaken Ink in Bloomburg, NY.  He wanted to get the Metal Mulisha skull logo, and Jamie certainly didn’t disappoint.

More people of Walgreens

Ok, I’ll admit when I wrote the first People of Walgreens post, it was just an excuse to post a picture of a pretty girl.   The fact that she was in Walgreens was just to play off the People of Walmart website.

Sure enough, less than a month later, I find a picture of another pretty girl in a Walgreens.  This can’t just be a coincidence right?  American ModBlog readers help me out, is BME member Bitemyrhymez, just another isolated incident, or is Walgreens really this awesome?

PoW

Like the last People of Walgreens entry, this image comes from the stretched lobe gallery.

Have you ever lost your keys?

Ever have one of those days where you’re in a rush to get out the door and you can’t find your keys?  You’re already running late and no matter where you look your keys just can’t be found?  Of course after 20 minutes of looking they’ll turn up in the most obvious of places, like in your pocket, or hanging next to the door.

Well, IAM: Lucass probably had that happen to him one too many times so he figured out a way to never lose his keys again.  Of course, this being BME, he didn’t just stop at his keys.

Thought it would be funny to hang stuff from my transscrotal. Yes that’s an Alarm clock, Wii Controller, Flip-camera, two box cutters, and some keys.  –Lucass

Keychain

Now if you’re a man on the go like Lucass, it might be worth looking into getting a transscrotal piercing.  Just think of all the time you’ll save over the years, by never having to look for your keys again.

Come to think of it, with the Wii controller hanging there, playing video games just got a whole lot more fun.

The Hungarian Shield

Flag and emblem tattoos are hardly a new concept.  To show off your national pride by getting the symbol of your country marked on your body can be seen in almost every country around the world.  Of course sometimes the tattoos aren’t created as a display of pride, as evidenced by the countless maple leaf tattoos done during the summer in Wasaga Beach, ON.

Getting back to the concept of national pride, I think it is safe to assume that this tattoo by Gabor Zagyvai was done out of a sense of pride in the owner’s country.

Kossuth Shield

Now I could be mistaken, but I believe that this leg belongs to the same person from this post back in August.

When it comes to the minimalistic style of artists such as Gabor, there always seems to be a division between those who love the style and those who hate it.  Now regardless if you’re a fan of the style or not, we can agree that the owner of the tattoo is pretty patriotic, and appreciates the minimalistic style.  The full size image can be found in the political tattoo gallery, and you can check out more work by Gabor in his scarification gallery.

Lizard Skynard CD Release….today!

Ever since I first discovered The Lizardman, way back in my RAB days, I have kept up with his constant transformations, and new endeavors. Recently, he began a whole new chapter or his life. He has always been a performer, and for several years he was involved with music as the MC for the Jager Tour. Now he has taken the next obvious step, by fronting a band himself.

When I first heard about this, I expected it to be kind of a joke band…..a funny drunken joke band, but a joke band no less. But upon listening to it, it became obvious this is something the Lizardman was serious about. It’s not music for everybody,  but for people who enjoy Henry Rollins or Jim Carroll type spoken word, or who are die-hard Lizardman fans this is definitely an album to pick up. Then there is the live show, which like any Lizardman performance it will be well one not to miss. There will be the drunken sideshow antics we have all come to love combined with the musical onslaught served up by his band and him, I assure you it will be one show worth catching.

Here’s the official Bio from the bands website:

Lizard Skynard is an exciting new band fronted by the famous Lizardman and Mossy Vaughn from the band The Heavils (metalblade.com)…Erik ‘The Lizardman’ Sprague is an accomplished sideshow entertainer, world traveler, stand up comedian and professional FREAK.The band also features drummer Johnny baker from the grind band Waco Jesus and on bass Russell Gillespie (Mothertrucker,KeyChainToker) and Eric Vaughn on keyboards. The New album was recorded at Electrical Audio studios with Greg Norman and mastered at Chicago Mastering with Jason Ward…

Lizard Skynard members

This all started because Mossy wanted to play music again and saw Erik ‘The Lizardman’ Sprague as his meal-ticket. The Heavils were not playing and who better to start a new project with but his green friend.

They talked about this band for about two years over many Jagermeister shots and while indulging in chemical inspiration they found the perfect name: Lizard Skynard. It was a lot cooler than Lizzard of Oz or REO MeatLizard and it got the right mix of awe and amusement from all who heard it. Mossy brought his cousin Johnny Baker (from the band Waco Jesus) to play drums and did some demos. They then recruited former Mothertrucker bassist Russell Gillespie and former Iron Sausage keyboardist Eric Vaughn to make the band even stronger.

If you want to check it out for yourself,  you can stream it ,or order the cd from lizardskynardband.com or if you prefer the mp3 download it is available now on itunes.
