This set of interviews is sort of in a grey-space of body modification where it’s not entirely clear whether it’s medical necessity or whether it’s voluntary body modification… On one hand the amputation solves a very real medical issue, but on the other hand, much of the medical community disagrees that this is the right solution. Three stories are included — a foot fetishist who had a deformed toe removed, a body modification enthusiast who had his leg amputated after five years of pain following a car accident, and a BME member who had an immobile finger amputated. All of these were by doctors, without subterfuge.
Real men cut them off when they’re done with them!
It’s one thing to marvel over someone’s big lip or big earlobe piercing, but it’s another thing altogether when someone manages to stretch their anus to enormous proportions, as my friend JC (regularly featured on both BME/HARD and in BMEvideo) has managed to do. If you’re interested in learning more, here’s a link to an interview I did back in 2002 with someone with similar modifications.
This BME member in Shandong (which incidentally is also what I call my junk), China, has since split his tongue, but I thought these pictures of him before the split were pretty neat!
Quite a rare piercing, this deep shaft piercing (lots of pictures are in tomorrow’s update, or continue reading for more here) passes vertically through the base of the penis — I remember reading Jon Cobb describing how much physical force it takes to do this piercing when he recounted doing his own by pounding the needle through, using a large Maglite flashlight as a hammer! While these can be healed, they do take time, and there is some minimal risk of nerve damage, the kind of nerve damage your really don’t want to get.
Jon got his as a “clit knocker” type accessory, but the enthusiast in this entry actually uses it to secure a large bracelet around the base of the shaft.
Lane (assisted by Charles Finnie) splits tongues with Jaclyn Loshaw and Amanda.

I have a lot of great interviews in the queue right now, from mild to wild, but I’m absolutely thrilled with the one that’s going up today, “One Hand Jason“, an interview which discusses Jason’s decision to amputate one of his hands in order to deal with what he had always perceived as a devastating birth defect — that is, being two-handed. Click through to read it now, and come on back here to comment (but please, read it before commenting).
The second of today’s two interviews being moved over from the BodyTwo archives is “Paul Oneball”, an interview about a man who’s used silicone augmentation to restore his genitals after they were damaged due to cancer. I’ve got loads more interviews covering a wide range of subjects (from tattoos to the extreme) in the queue, so I wanted to get these older ones posted to make space for the new. Click on through to read it if you haven’t already.
The last posting of an Achilles piercing here on Modblog generated a number of whiny complaints about how unviable and dangerous it is from conservative piercers**. Now, my feeling is that in what I hope will always remain a rebel artform — rather than an “industry” — that there’s no space for conservatism (or whining), so with that in mind there’s a Mr. Tetanus interview pending.
Mr. Tetanus, a performance artist, wears a self-made 10mm spike through his ankle, behind the Achilles tendon, and has had it now for about twelve years. In the picture below you can see it now, as well as a photo looking through the hole and showing the displacement of the tendon. He doesn’t take it out much because the hole closes up within about a minute, and begins to reseal itself within half an hour.
He uses the piercing in performances, swinging bowling balls and other weights (another performance artist — “Angel” — has actually hung from meat-hooks worn in this piercing), so it can definitely take quite a bit of abuse without crippling him. That said, he emphasizes that he doesn’t recommend anyone else try this, and notes that even after twelve years it’s never truly healed (that said, it’s not as if tongue piercings ever “truly” heal for many people either) and in theory continues to put him at risk.
Risk, Schmisk!!! Anyway, I’ll post the full interview soon, but I couldn’t resist putting up a teaser and a photo of his remarkable ankle!
** Note: Since there are some serious comprehension issues with this entry getting people even whinier, let me be perfectly clear: I couldn’t care less if a piercer feels that they don’t want to do this, and personally I don’t think this should be offered on the walk-in public. Where I have a problem is if people say that no one should be doing or getting this modification (or other heavy mods). Body modification is where it is today because people informed themselves about the risks and tried new things, often with what seemed like serious dangers at the time — and when that ends, body modification begins to die.
