Nothing Overlooked

Hey, that was an exciting-ish day, right? A Lionel tattoo, L’il Mister Strange, and a glorious running diary of one of those newfangled tattoo reality shows. Let’s wind down with this beautiful scarification project composed of Hindu iconography—Trishula, Om and Swastika. Two months into the healing process, these pieces were done by Dimitri working out of Officina in Milano, Italy. Between the precision of the design and the evenness of the way they’re healing, this is shaping up to be a truly gorgeous piece. Sleep on that, ModBloggers. We’ll see you tomorrow.

Older and Better

Greetings, ModBloggers! Let’s begin our Wednesday smorgasbord with this shot of “Mr. Lees Boat,” if that is his real name, featuring some brand new circular facial scarification work by the great Iestyn (lots more). As always, we’ll be very curious to see how these suckers heal, but between his jewelry and new scars, ’tis a fine theme emerging.

Decay or Explosion

Good afternoon, ModBloggers! Hope you’re enjoying your Sunday, be it lazy or otherwise. This hieroglyph skin-removal piece cutting comes to us from “Kick” Keek in Moscow, the photo having been taken at the 2009 Moscow Tattoo Festival. This right here? That’s a fine use of back real estate, my friend.

Realize the Strength

I have to admit, I’m still sometimes amazed by the radically different ways in which people may develop scars as a result of cuttings. Here we’ve got a pair (actually, a trio) of cuttings that illustrate this nicely. Up above is a scarification piece by Wendi from Ann Arbor, one year old at this point—healing well and evenly, leaving a somewhat faint scar. After the jump, another pair of cuttings by Wendi that took a wildly different turn.

Night and day? Night and day. The single-line around her breasts is six months old, and the lotus cutting is three months old. The wearer in this case is referred to as “my muse”—with good reason, it seems! Obviously, bits of the breast scar have underdeveloped in relation to the rest of it, but what a reaction nonetheless.

Everything is Untrue

I’ll confess that I was never much for Amen—more of a smooth jazz guy, personally—but it’s hard to argue with Maki‘s skin-removal scarification piece of the band’s frontman, Casey Chaos. It’s two months into the healing process here, so let’s hope it stays so well defined.

My Aortic Valve is Tingling

Hey, so here we have Frank, a tattoo and scarification artist in Quebec, and, as you can see, he’s in the middle of cutting a spider into his chest and showing off an excess of intestinal fortitude. After the jump, he digs in pretty deep, so we consult with Ask.BME‘s Efix to get his expert opinion.

As you can see, the body of the spider is cut pretty damn deep. So what sayeth Efix (who, it turns out, is friends with and has worked on Frank in the past)?

Some people like to work on themselves, either because they don’t really trust others to work on them, or, most of the time, because they simply enjoy the DIY experience. But people should never underestimate the complexity and risk level associated with some more advanced procedures such as this skin removal scarification. Frank is a skilled tattoo artist and has done quite a bunch of cutting work, however, a large skin peeling like this one should never be taken lightly. In my opinion, the abdomen part of the spider has been cut too deeply. A wound that deep will take a long time to heal, and the scar can be quite out of control and give unexpected results.

Frank, of course, is experienced, as Efix says, and he’s working on himself, so he likely knows what sort of reaction to expect from his body as far as scarring is concerned (and he may well be hoping the spider’s body scars more dramatically). As well, as far as consent is concerned…well, again, he’s doing it on himself. If an artist were to do a piece like this on a client, it may be a different story. At any rate, best of luck, sir! Keep us posted as this bad boy heals.

Just to clarify: Nobody here is criticizing Frank or saying he’s done a bad job! Quite the opposite. I wanted to post this, but because of how deep part of the cut is, I just wanted to have some manner of explanation to go along with it. That is all.

The Wolf Below

And here we have some more ass-kickery from Charles Finnie in the form of this English ivy cutting. Did we just post one of Finnie’s cuttings a few days ago? Hell yes we did. Are we posting another one today? Hell yes we are. Why? Because Finnie has incriminating pictures of me it’s just that good.

Happy Friday, ModBloggers. More after the jump.

Humbug

The last time we saw The Enigma‘s facial cutting, the pictures were a little on the low-resolution side, but luckily, Scenester has swooped in with some nice bright shots of our blue friend getting some X’s cut out over his mouth. And, while you’re at it, there’s also a fine vantage point of his ears, implants and the X’s over his eyes. Another procedural image after the jump.

The Great Gymnasium

“Why?” asks the student. “Why ‘Needles’?”

“Because,” the swami answers, “that is his name.”

And then they danced.

(Really though, that’d be Needles, apprentice of Six at Toronto’s Exotix Studios, wearing a fine cutting of his own moniker.)
