allesistscheisse is going to help me out with today’s public service announcement. One of the great things about tattoos is that most people can’t tell good tattoo work from bad tattoo work. It’s a pro but also a con. The primary thing is that it makes the wearer of the tattoo happy. When I posted Norm’s vimby video, a comment was made that you could get good script from any reasonably good tattoo shop, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. I know some amazing tattooers who just can’t do good lettering. One of the quotes that I’ve heard is that “good tattoos are ruined by bad lettering”, like if you see an amazingly well done sacred heart with a really cruddy “Mom” in the banner. It just kills the tattoo.
As long as Kevin is happy, that’s what matters in the long run.

So what is the lesson that we’ve learned today? Friends don’t let friends give each other home made tattoos. Unless of course your friend happens to be a kick ass tattooer.

There is beauty in the darkness

Anna is no stranger to Modblog and she continues to be strikingly gorgeous. She’s one of a few girls that serve as an inspiration to make a BMEGirls/BMEboys calendar. If I want to get it done in time though I’ll need to act fast. Send your submissions to [email protected] to be included for consideration. Everyone who is included in the calendar will receive a couple in trade!

I also wanted to remind everyone that the end of the year is coming. Submissions will be cut off on December 20th as far as counting towards the year end awards. So check the leaderboards to see where you are. The top 20 contributors for photos and experiences will receive a limited edition 2009 Year End Award Contributor shirt. We will also be taking off for the holidays and may or may not be able to update Modblog during that time as we’ll be spending the last week of December and the first two weeks of January converting to the new platform. The last day to make orders from BMEshop will also be on the 20th as well. You can continue to place orders during the holidays but they won’t be shipped out until the 28th if you place them after the 20th. If you’re making purchases internationally, please consider making them as soon as possible as the USPS will not guarantee their international delivery times during the holidays.

One of the biggest “issues” that the modification community used to have to deal with was the overwhelming abundance of male dominance. While most tattooers and piercers are still male, there is an increasing upsurge in female participation. Maybe it’s just easier to modify your junk if you’re a man? Perhaps it was simply more socially acceptable as a man?

That being said, I have a little treat this morning for you!

Fabricio Cardoso of Cia Do Piercing in PalhoÁa – Santa Catarina- Brazil sent in photos of two of his customers that had been separated at birth. Longing for that connection again, he was pleased to help bring the brothers back together again. Yeah, uh, nevermind, that wasn’t even funny. Forget I wrote that. Seriously.

Though I’m not shocked these photos came from Brasil. I’m not sure if there has just been a huge upsurge in Brasilian members but it seems like 1/4 of the submissions have been coming out of Brasil!

I think that’s all I’ve got for today. I’ve been staying off line and trying to take some time off to spend with my daughter so I apologize for the light posts. I’m going to try to post tomorrow and Wednesday but I may not have time. Thursday will see everything back to normal. Dark Freak is certainly looking the part for his IAM name. Thiago Marzano snapped this shot of him in Brasil and it definitely doesn’t change my opinion that all of the BME Brasilian members are either heavily modded, good looking or both. 2010 is going to be a busy year because I already have plans to go to Japan, Italy and most certainly I’ll be heading to Brasil. I’m hoping we can put together a big Brasilian BME BBQ because that would be tons of fun. I can only imagine what beautiful tropical setting we can fill with BME’ers!

I forgot to post on here that BMEshop is back up and running. We’ve got Calm shirts, Elements Shirts, Calm Hoodies and a whole new slew of books in the book section. I’ve already added ICHIBAY, SHIGE and PINT‘s books and I just added one about HORIYOSHI III as well as his One Points Sketch Book .I dropped the price on the Revisited book and cut the price in half for the Revisited Limited Edition Book (includes limited edition binding, case, stickers and prints). Doing one tattoo out of those books easily covers their cost. They also make great presents and tips for the tattoo artist in your life. Wink! wink!

You’ll also probably see a lot of Tattooer related tshirts going into the “Friends of BME” section. This is the stock that was up on CanvasLA’s website and it will continue to be on sale for $20 bucks a tshirt designed by tattooers all over the world. It’s easier to migrate it over to one system instead of having it spread across two sites. We’ve got Rebel8, MATW, To Die For, Sullen and a couple other tattooer lines. We have limited styles and colors left so check through the clothes to see if we’ve got your size. They haven’t all been added yet because it takes a long time but I’m getting to it.
