The Hidden Paths That Run

And finally, let’s shut it down for the night with this offering by the Owl God-summoning Anji Marth, who tattooed this while at High Priestess Corvallis in Corvallis, Oregon. In addition to being some of the nicer, more original script we’ve seen in a while, this is also delightfully nerdy and, to top it off, there appears to be a kilt involved. Awesome? Awesome. The tattoo itself is the text of The Road Goes Ever On and On, written by none other than J.R.R. Tolkien and, while it was published in various forms throughout his novels, the one committed to skin up there is from The Hobbit. In case you can’t make it all out:

Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains of the moon.

Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.

We’ll see you tomorrow, folks.

The Great Equalizer

You may not know it by looking at the picture, but this is, in fact, the very lovely Miss Duveaux (much more), letting her side-torso tattoo tell the tall tales of her supposed “trouble” for her. I mean, really—how much trouble could a girl who, I don’t know, covers her naked self in blood for Christmas really be? Exactly. One of the nicer (and definitely one of the more large-scale) script pieces we’ve seen in a while, unobscured by that pesky red sheer, after the jump.

Tattoo Hollywood, BME’s first tattoo convention, is coming to Los Angeles from August 21-23, featuring contests, prizes and some of the best artists from around the world! Click here for more information.

God Beat Me To It

Good afternoon, ModBloggers! It’s a sunny day, there’s a cool breeze, maybe you’ve got a frosty beverage in your hand…you know what that means, right? That’s right: Time to kill some m.-fuckin’ zombies. Just follow Jayse‘s lead and you’ll be just fine.

Never Sleep

“I’m a programmer,” says Exciteableboy, he of the above knuckle tattoos, “it’s what I am.” Oh yeah? Well, I LOVE PIES, but you don’t see me bragging about it.

…Oh, who am I kidding? I brag about it all the time. Go forth, good sir.

Actually, let’s open it up to the floor: Favorite knuckle tattoos of all time, whether you’ve actually seen them or just had wonderful dreams about them. Let’s hear ‘em in the comments.

What Everyone Knows

That’s Jon up there, sporting a handsome Boysetsfire-inspired chest-piece by Derek Hutchinson at Sacred Skin South in Des Moines, Iowa. (The quoted lyrics: “This crying, this screaming, my voice is being born.”) The whole piece is nicely done, but the fetal character in the center is particularly well rendered. Also this just made me remember that, back in the day, I always used to get Boysetsfire confused with Boy Hits Car. Because I’m an idiot.

Nothing Shall Turn Me

My my, how cultured we are this evening! First Dali, and now this poem by Edgar Allen Poe, “From Childhood’s Hour,” as worn by SeamlessKameleon. I think in big text pieces like this, the letters should either be identical or look like neat, natural writing; this falls nicely in the latter category for me.

He Done Blind Me

Hey now, here’s a fine-looking piece being sported by Azreal. It’s not always easy to take traditional elements like flowers, banners and script and make them look truly fresh, but I think this really works. The coloring on the lilies is great, and, my Latin is a little rusty, so correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe those are the lyrics to Witchy Woman, which, hey, nice touch.

(Tattoo by Jimmy G. at Five Cents Tattoo in Ottawa, Ontario. And those are obviously not Eagles lyrics. I am just an idiot.)

A Fist Like This

Let’s wrap up the day with Absinthe‘s new stomach tattoo, done by John Walsh at Tattoo Zone in Southampton, England. Is it a My Ruin reference, perhaps? A general statement about where he stands in society? Or something far more sinister? Chew on that. (Or wait and see what he has to say, I guess.)

Enjoy the evening, ModBloggers. We’ll see you tomorrow.

Why We’re Here

Well hey, it’s Brianna, looking fancy, showing off the ol’ “Nerd Life” inner arm tattoos! There’s a lot to like about Brianna’s work, not the least of which is her nice, colorful BME Calm logo. What’s that, you can’t see it? Well…best look after the jump.

(“Nerd Life” by Ben Reigle, formerly of Lucky’s in Northampton, Massachusetts, now at Nautilus Tattoo in Newington, Connecticut.)
