An octopus in need of a garden
As amazing as the blue-ringed octopus looks, it is definitely not an animal that you want to mess with. One bite from this bad boy can kill a person in minutes, there is no anti-venom, and it has enough stored up to take out over 20 people. I for one welcome our new cephalopod overlords.
This particular octopus was done by Jeff Ortega from Evil From the Needle in London.

Squid Ink
This outstanding cephalopod tattoo was sent in by Margaj, who had the tattoo done by Ania from Szerytattoo in Warsaw. The style is fantastic, with the abstract elements almost making the octopus appear as an ink blot. It gives motion to an animal that is rarely ever seen at rest, while also giving the impression that the octopus is underwater, without explicitly drawing the water in the form of waves.
Don’t Masquerade
The last time we saw Cole up there, he was showing off that handsome chest piece, and understandably so! This time around, however, his clothes have tragically disappeared somehow, though this calamity at least allows us a convenient vantage point of the cephalopodic addition to his side by Jay at Trigger Happy in Vancouver, British Columbia. After the jump, we get a better look at a few things that are mildly obscured in the above photo.
Coming To Austin, Texas: Brian Decker!
If there are two things we enjoy above almost all else, they are cephalopod-related body modifications and warm corned beef sandwiches. If we were to add a third item, though, Brian Decker would probably make the list, seeing as he never fails to provide us with awe-inspiring tentacled monsters (though this one was mostly designed by the lovely Candace. In exchange for his contributions to the canon, we’ll pass on the word that Mr. Decker will be in Austin, Texas, at the end of this month, starting around October 20, and he is taking appointments! Visit him on IAM or at Pure Body Arts to set something up. Just do it already.
Split Ya Guts
As we have made mention of many times in the past, ModBlog exists, if for no other reason, than to bring you, the handsome and erudite readers, the very finest in cephalopod-related body modification. Well, here we have a jaunty little octopus, cut into place by Brian Decker at Pure Body Arts in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Mr. Decker is currently gallavanting around Berkeley, California, doing whatever it is people do there (smoke medical marijuana and hate America), so feel free to get in touch with him if you are in the market for his particular brand of pain-infliction.

Forwards, Backwards, Sideways
We’ve featured the very lovely Satanycandle on these hallowed pages before, and she’s always been vaguely shape-shifty—well, no exception here. This time around, she joins the ranks of our esteemed cephalopod-esque models, doing her best octopus impression, dreadlocks waving this way and that. Not to mention, the pink jewelry is a nice contrast to the blueish photo, and she just looks awfully peaceful in general, does she not? Yes. Yes she does.

This Week in BME
New rule: When you get an A Christmas Story tattoo, slightly re-imagined as an old-school piece (with a flash-y banner, at least), you get to be on ModBlog. Doesn’t matter what season it is, not even a little. And if you disagree? Take it up with Ralphie there, who has been instructed to fire at will.

How to Build a Boat
As part of our ongoing effort to bring you the absolute best in both knuckle and cephalopod tattoos, here’s some hand-work by Asa Rogers at Art With Heart in Denver, Colorado. It’s common knowledge that I can’t help but find endearing stylistic mishmashes, and this Asian lettering/”Book Worm”/sea-creature battle just plain does it for me. (The brilliant coloring doesn’t hurt.)
And before anyone pipes in with a worry or complaint that they either (1) already have “Book Worm” on their knuckles or (2) were planning on getting it and this just ruins their day…cheer up. If there’s a fine club of which to be a part, I think this would be it. On that note, what’s everybody reading this summer? Let’s hear your recommendations, ModBloggers.
